We don't need it, just require gun owners to purchase liability insurance in case they hurt or maim someone.
The insurance industry would handle the rest. :D

I'm not 'on to it' as to US politics, and it's not my place to comment, but I'm just noting the coincidence:
this topic also occupied a significant chunk of the TYT news (with graphics, etc.) that were aired yesterday.

The tyt news?

The tyt news?

The young turks. One can access & download them online for 10$/month.
More of a political analysis program than news. They combine news with humour & a bit of gossip,
which makes politics more pallatable for someone like me.

For $10 a month I can make up my own news.

Tell me, oh wise one. How are you going to require drug dealers, organized criminals, crazy people and terrorists to purchase insurance? Are you planning to charge them with "uninsured firearm" when you catch them murdering someone?

Or do you just want to disarm the responsible people due to ridiculous premiums.

How about we also require insurance to own a bicycle since so many people are hurt by these unnecessary and dangerous devices every year.

Indeed.
But apparently they are much more than just laughs and gossip.
One of their projects is WolfPAC (whose aim is to take money out of politics). According to what they keep saying (or bragging?) their volunteers have already obtained the signatures of several senators from a few districts, and the movement is growing.

For ten dollars a month I will make up news for you...Some of it may even be true!

Lol
I know I might sound a bit ridiculous (non-US immigrant who is enthusiastic about a US news channel)
but you have no idea how pc and boring the Au ones are (oops - subjective view, don't want to offend Au/Nzers). To me, the US ones are like a breath of fresh air

My bad. Thought this was a joke thread. Didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to think the insurance industry would be stupid enough to destroy something that could make them millions....

If the legal guns were gone, where would the bad people get their guns?

Require all guns to come disassembled. With instruction written by IKEA.

IKEA gives fairly good directions assuming you aren't pants on head retarded. . .or buying something that really no amateur has any business fucking with.

Gun fairy. Isn't that how it works where you live? You leave a tooth under the pillow and you get a gun?

Criminals would just keep their guns instead of turning them in because THEY ARE FUCKING CRIMINALS!!! THEY DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT FOLLOWING THE LAW!!!

Common misconception and one that I don't understand how any adult manages to make. The overwhelming majority of criminals obey the overwhelming majority of laws the overwhelming majority of the time. In this particular case however them keeping the guns is only so useful. Attrition will take out a goodly chunk of them one way or the other given time. Confiscate them from criminals and slap a hefty sentence on people caught. It's not like we need to solve this over night.

Much the same way you can no longer buy cocaine because the internal supply ran dry....

Not remotely the same thing. I don't know why people insist on making this ignorant argument either. May I assume you're at least consistent and think we should simply legalize everything under the sun?

No doubt, but every time they are found with a gun it would be confiscated.

There are over 270 million guns in the US. They don't have an expiration date like a loaf of bread. A well maintained gun will still fire if it's a hundred years old or more. Same thing with bullets.

Hell, you can make a gun with a 3d printer. Are you going to ban those too? People make their own bullets too.

Why don't you try passing a law to end evil while you're at it.

And let's say by some miracle you manage to get rid of all of the guns. That is not going stop people from killing others. They will just switch over to something else like molotov cocktails, butcher knives, or maybe just plowing into a bunch of people with a car. Are you going to cry out how we need laws to ban knives & cars next.

I can almost understand how you could be stupid enough to think this wasn't a joke. But not when I pointed out it was a joke in the next post....

The gun fairy only goes Mexico then? Because they have some of the toughest gun laws in the world and yet they are still everywhere.

Thinking most criminals will keep their guns is pure logic. Thinking it is a misconception is pure window licking stupid

Did you just argue cocaine is protected by the constitution and have the balls to use ingnoramt, and not in reference to yourself, at the same time

So what? First you're making a lot of assumptions. First that the 270 or 300 million number is actually accurate and I'm highly skeptical of it. But I won't argue that point since it's impossible to concretely prove in any way.

Let's assume for the sake of argument several things we know for a fact are not true just to make things easier on your end. First that nobody owns two or more guns. 270 million guns =270 million gun owners. (Speaking just for the four in my closet I can tell you outright that's not the truth.) Second that nobody would willingly turn their weapons over which is again not true. A lot of people would, I'd bet over 50%. They might gripe about it but when the government came around they'd shut up and obey the law as written. So you've still got 270 million individual gun owners out there. Now this is all absolute bullshit but we'll let it fly.

The majority of gun owners are "responsible" (a dubious term at best) and aren't a big deal. If you're gun is kept in a safe and you never bring it out nobody cares. It's not a weapon at that point. It's a weight. Likewise if the penalties for being caught with a weapon are sufficiently high criminals will not use them because the risk/reward ratio isn't in their favor. More as fewer and fewer criminals either have easy access to a weapon or use one it becomes a self correcting problem. Arms races work exactly the same way between gangs and criminals and even the cops as they do between countries or factions.

As for banning 3d printers you could easily ban the program (or whatever the proper term is for a 3d pattern for a printer) and then nail people, Hell nail them even harder. And last I checked nobody has actually made a 3d Printed gun that was reliable. They all seem to jam up pretty quickly. They'll eventually get it right but we've got time for that. But you just make it illegal.

It's worth noting that nobody makes arguments this stupid about other things. And yes it's a stupid argument. Why don't we ignore Kiddie Porn? I mean you can download it off the internet! And print it up and hand it around to all your sicko friends! Are you going to ban the internet? Or printers?! Maybe computers since you could load them directly onto computers with thumb drives, CDs and even floppy discs!

Oh wait. THAT'S FUCKING RETARDED.

Nobody brought up the Constitution at all. Nice attempt at a dodge though. Yes, I had the testicular fortitude to call your entire premise ignorant. Pants on head retarded.
