There is NOTHING sacrosanct about IP's. Your IP tells anyone very little about you and further more, in 99.9% of the cases, it isn't even yours. Only those that have static IP's can actually claim to have a 'personal' IP.

You're IP is nothing more than a routing decvice that is used to make sure web content intended for you is delievered to you.

If I know the IP that you are currently logged on with I can use various tools and determine who your ISP is (for most instances) and with some reliablity your general location. That's it. I can't find your name, address, or phone number. How many kids you may or may not have or whether you owe the finance company for last months car payment. So from the standpont of IP's there is virtually NO personal information to be gathered.

Everytime you log on the the network your ISP assigns you an IP. This is programed into your network card if you are braodband, or carried in your software if you are on dial up. That number will NOT change unless you turn your computer/cable modem/DSL modem off and then back on again.

So, if you have 40 alts and you use them all in one session, and I can track your IP. Then I can determine that indeed you are in fact 40 different alts. I still don't know who you are or where you live. I only know that you have a serious MPD.

Now, I can convey this information to a third party without EVER having violated your privacy, divulged ANY personal information, or in anyway interfered with your ability to log onto the site and post. And I DO NOT have to divulge your IP. As a matter of fact your IP is now superflous.

Does Laurel know our IP's? You bet your sweet ass she does. Just as I know the IP of every swinging dick that hits my servers. Can she tie alts to IP's? Damn straight she can. It's all part of vBulletin administration.

Now, more to the point. Did she?

I doubt it. There have been larger groups of trolls on the board far more insidious in activity and the doling out of filth and garbage. This little circle doesn't even come close to some past events. Laurel had far more at stake back then and considerably more personal interest in curtailing their activities than this little incident. But she didn't. Based on previous actions I have to conclude that Laurel had little to do with this little drama. Her only participation has been as a result of name dropping.

Whatever Jinxed. I had the power to deny Bob access to marximus. Bob had the power to create more alts. If Marximus would have vanished, you're acting like he was denied access to the internet.

A large portion of this shitfest is the secrets between Bob and desiqn that they shared and eventually got posted.

In all the stuff desiqn has, not once has she said I gave her any info.

This, I actually agree with. I'm not excusing hte behavior of posting under an alt. However, if Heavy didn't post info that was given to him in confidence (and no, I have no idea if he's being truthful), and simply posted things that he found elsewhere on the board, that's not quite in the same realm as what desiqn and Bob did.

In fact, aside from saying it under an alt, he didn't really do anything that all of us haven't done at one time or another - dredge up old info, take it out of context, and use it to hurt someone or prove a point, or whatever.

Again, I'm not excusing his behavior or saying that it's ok. But I do agree that it's just a little different.
