Guidelines for "Illustrated"

I haven't run across guidelines specifically for "illustrated" tales.

I'm completing a story I'd like to illustrate with photos from a professional photographer.

I would have his express written permission for the use.

Anyone know if that o.k. or a no-no?

Softie -- pretty pix are all over

I am quoting from the Literotica "FAQ" file:

"I want to submit an illustrated story. What are the guidelines? How do I submit my artwork?"

"We love to receive stories with complementing photos or artwork. All art within the story, like the story itself, must be your original work - i.e. photographs that you yourself took, or paintings or drawings that you yourself created. Those illustrated in the art must be over the age of 18. We do not accept hardcore (sexually explicit) photography. We do accept nudes that are not hardcore (i.e. no close-ups, penetration, overt groping, etc.) All illustrations must be submitted as .gifs or .jpgs, and must be less than 450 pixels wide and less than 40k in size."

Also, you will need a "model release" from anyone in the picture.

If you have express written permission for the use, I think you'll be OK.

The wording of the FAQ says, "All art within the story, like the story itself, must be your original work - i.e. photographs that you yourself took, or paintings or drawings that you yourself created," but I believe the intent is to insure that you have a legal right to post the pictures.

It may be that you'll need to list the Photogrpher as "co-author" of the piece to meet the strict wording of the FAQ, but only Laurel can give you a definitive answer.

Thanks, I'd seen that before but then found the novel "Six Times A Day" which did it with toons and I wasn't sure if I'd missed something.

Thanks, I'll contact Laurel and post the definitive explanation here.

Softie -- no naked ladies to take pix of :(

As promised, here is Laurel's explanation:

Out of respect for artist copyrights, we generally require that photos be created by the person who submitted them. However, if you can provide written permission from the photographer - and the photos follow the guidelines in our FAQ - there should be no problem. If you do add a credit to the photos, please limit it to the author name - we don't allow URLS or anything that could be construed as advertising in anything submitted to the site. Thanks again, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks, Harold and RR for your guidance.

Softie -- busy today
