Once again, Akira found herself in the place she liked least. Between a rock and a hard place. Tonight was the night. Her and Duke had planned it out for months. And yet she got a message from him earlier that evening on her burner, "sry can't make it. good luk xx". Who still typed like that. Just thinking about it had the color rising back to Akira's cheeks. Yet there she was, wiggling her way through the ducts of the museum to get ahold of that stupid jewel.
Akira stopped once she knew she was above the room with the jewel--the Alfra-noor. Stolen from India or something. Part of some huge disagreement. She only vaguely knew the story. It wasn't of her concern anyway, she just needed to get the oversized sequin and hand it over to the Big Boss. Or he'd have her head handed to him instead. And she liked her head.
With her elbow, Akira jabbed at the panel under her once, twice, and it swung open as she athletically jumped down into the room. This wasn't a one man job, and the twenty-seven year old was trying to figure out how to compensate for her missing partner.
With the jewel in the center of the room, she began pacing around it. She couldn't just grab it, that would send the sensors off and by herself she wouldn't have enough time to outrun the security. Reaching into her pocket, she found a quarter. Her eyes going between the coin and the red sensors around her prize, trying to calculate the amount of time she could buy herself if she set them off.
As she was about to flick the coin she heard a noise behind her. "Thanks for showing up, Duke. You fucker."
