There you go.
congrats handsome...
did you know that the winner got an all expense paid trip to the colon irrigation clinic?
:rose:

Well, I can say I am extremely flattered that people thought Colly or Abs had written mine. And I am also extremely flattered that people thought I wrote Colly's, dr. M's, Belegon's, and a couple of others. It makes me realize that it is highly probably that I am too critical of my own work, lol.

Not too urprised no one actually got mine. As chrley noted, I'm poster child for the school of thought that if you can say it in 500 words, you can say it in 5000 better :)

And you say it in 5,000 so well!

Does Neon know he'll have to organise April's challenge? :D

Have to be mid April - I'm away again for 3 weeks.

Damn right! Too critical of your own work. You have a rhythm to your voice/style particularly evident in longer para's, Zoot has the same, hence my confusion - I once remember him saying he didn't see the point in these types of challenges. But neither is as pronounced as Liar - he almost cannot resist ending a para with a 5 or 6 word sentence.

Lucifer_C is one of very few authors who uses forename and surname. Likes to lead off with the name to open a story or para.

Impressive uses italics to highlight / differentiate text, plus a sharp clean cut voice.

cantdog uses solid line breakers to seperate story sections, it was the clincher though the story could only have come from a Northern spirit.

Due to the timing of my computer emergency, I never got a chance to really guess. But I was very flattered by some of the names assigned to my piece.

So alex was the author of the one everyone was attributing to me. I'm flattered :)
So was I, hon, so was I!

If anyone's interested, I didn't try to change my style - not sure I could - but did deliberately change genre. I wrote about 700 words, letting them come, then chopped it back. No real editing, as such. No plans - yet - to finish it either. Too much to do in the next couple of weeks (two lots of students submitting assignments for marking, and one of my own to finish).

Congratulations to the good guessers. I think TheEarl got me, unless he changed at the last minute, and Neon should have the faith of his convictions! I need to make time for some reading now . . .

Don't know if you've ever read 'The Rivan Codex' by David and Leigh Eddings. He says it takes him 100 pages to clear his throat. You're in good company.

You tricked me! I hadn't actually recognised any of them as yours, but you admitted to having written one of the first 22, and you said elsewhere that you were writing a sci-fi piece. Alex's excerpt reminded me of "The Run". :)

I only wrote one because so many were guessing me. It felt kinda unfair to not have something up :)

I can't do this kind of challenge without disguising my writerly voice. If I were writing that snippet as a story, I would have been over the 500 word limit well before my Protag got out of the subway terminal. So much of what I do is tied to intricate, sometimes even painful description and in 500 words, there is just no room for more than a few words about any particular object, person , seting.

You still tricked me. Until you admitted having written one, I didn't think you had, and that everyone saying you had was wrong. :D

Now that I take as a compliment! Excellent story. Thanks, Lauren.
