I never thought I'd complain about Firefox, but I must. It's driving me batty. I recently upgraded to version 1.5 and maybe it's just me, but it seems all glitchy. If I click the back button, it almost always goes back at least two pages, which is fine if it happens once, but when it happens everytime, it gets annoying. Plus, the highlighting feature (especially on the web address bar) doesn't seem to be working right so I'm having to manually backspace to delete so I can type in a new address. Oh! And occasionally, upon clicking the back button, I go completely off my page and to the firefox homepage. WTF is that about?
Anyone else experiencing this? And more importantly, anyone know how to fix it?

No.

Is it during just this session, or everytime you turn on the computer?

If just this session reboot.

Maybe uninstall and then reinstall will solve it. Save your bookmarks first.

Everytime. But it seems to be getting worse. Or maybe I'm just less patient with it. Because at the moment, it's making me crabby. I switched to Firefox cuz IE is shitty; I don't want FF to be shitty, too!

I haven't had the problems with back clicking, but I know what you mean about highlighting.

What OS are you running?

If you don't like your new version of Firefox, you might try doing a System Restore back to your old version (this will only work if you have Windows Me or XP).

You might also trying doing a complete uninstall/reinstall of your old version. I am on Firefox 1.0.7 and haven't had any problems at all.

Oh- another thing it's doing, which it just did, is that sometimes when I have 2 FF open (not in tabs), if I x out of one, both close.

So how do I make sure to save my bookmarks? Cuz I've gotta fix this.

Edited-ok bookmarks saved. I created another profile, and I'm going to see if that fixes it. If not, I'll uninstall/reinstall.

Got an old and slow computer?

Firefox is a good web browser, but it uses more memory and system resources than IE or Opera. If you have a bunch of other applications running on a slower system, launching it just might break that imfamous camel's back. I haven't tried it, so I can't say for sure, but if you used an older version, and upgraded, it's possible that the new one puts more strain on the system.

I find that clearing the cache periodically helps with general glitchiness.

I suppose that's possible, but my computer really isn't that old or slow. Probably about average. And I'm very good about keeping extra applications to a mimimum.

If you don't like FF or IE, try opera. I really like it.
It's my weapon of coice too. Wunnerful thing. It had built-in ads before, but not anymore.

My version of opera doesn't have any ads, but I've just recently become a user. I have no complaints about it what so ever.

If anyone wants to give it a try, here's a download link:

Opera

Maybe you have a fast finger?

Could also be your mouse. Try cleaning it!
This was from experience. I had the same problem of going back two pages.
Cleaning the mouse out solved it.
And I changed to FF 1.07 !

Damn firefox. I uninstalled/reinstalled and I'm still getting all the same problems. It's not my mouse, tho. I'm really really frustrated. I've been loving firefox till now.

Try 1.07
Or email them. They are very helpful and welcome feedback.

P'raps reverting to v.1.0.7 might be the answer. Often the bleeding-edge version has problems...

Good networking,

Mozilla has a greta forum where you and ask questions and find answers.. try there.. and then check for any updates.. I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7 (ax) with no problems at all. you may have a bad install..

Ok, I'm confused. I uninstalled/reinstalled and left it with the 1.07 version, and I'm still having the same glitches.
Does anyone have any idea what's causing it? Perhaps it's not Firefox after all.
Basically the two main problems is that clicking the back button on my browser continually takes me back two pages, and closing out one browser window will close all of my browser windows.
Fixable or will I just have to live with it?

edited to say: I downloaded Opera and I'm playing with it. It's alot like Firefox, but not quite so I'm not sure how I like it. We'll see.

I'd got to teh mozilla website and check teh knowledge base. then if you don';t find anythign post in the user forum.. someone there should be able to help..

I've used Firefox for ages, and never had a bit of trouble with it. I would email them, Sophie, just to narrow the problem down to either their software, or your hardware.

I would say, just from what is posted on this thread, she is having a hardware problem. Mice do give up the ghost once in a while. Or I would check the plug for the mouse at the back of the machine.

And I being more literate, computer wise, would also run some dianotics software that would test my hardware.

But changing the mouse may just fix things.

I have Firefox install, along with IE and Opera. I use all three interchangably. By far I like IE the best but I have set it up and know all the little tweaks.

If it's not the mouse then it could be any number of things. Memory, contollers, driver software, etc. Or a bad install.

I know you have said you unistalled and re-installed, but did you reboot the machine after the uninstall? And did you re-download the install exe?

I wish there was someother way I could help with this, as it's kinda what I do for a living, but I need access to the machine for that.

Good luck! :rose:

I don't think it's hardweare related cause it woudl be showing up elsewhere in other software.. and iy only showe dup after she installed teh upgrade for Firfox.. from my experience that leads me to think it was a bad install.. and simply uninstalling it may not fix teh problem. if it was abad inastll teh support at Mozilla may be able to help undo it or correct it.. may be a simple as a registry edit..

Quiet possible. But just to make sure I would wiggle mouse plugs and if I have and extra mouse switch them just to see.

Then I would uninstall, reboot and chase down all registry entries for Firefox and delete them. Then reboot and install the exe again.

But I wouldn't recomend this to a novice.

true.. registry edits can seem simple but a wrong and you get to reinstall everything (not fun).. that's why I'd check the mozilla site first and see if it's a known problem and if so they probably have a fix for it.. always go to the source first.. usually saves a lot of headaches..
