(Dakota News Now) Organizers have scrapped plans to enforce social distancing
at the Fourth of July Mount Rushmore celebration, where President Trump and
Governor Noem will be in attendance.
The state is giving out 7,500 tickets via a lottery system, which opened up late last week.
The state also decided not to reduce the amount of tickets being given out as a result
of COVID-19, only as a method to help control the number of people and vehicles in
the park. People who do not receive tickets in the lottery will still be able to watch
from outside the park grounds.
Despite the lack of measures, Governor Noem says that she is not worried
about a potential spike in COVID-19 cases as a result of the event, but that
the state's medical system is ready should one happen.

At a May 21 teleconference, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem said she sent a letter
asking U.S. President Donald Trump to help end Cheyenne River Sioux Indian
Reservation coronavirus checkpoints, noting that they set “precedent.”
Her remark was in response to a journalist’s question relating her stance against
checkpoint legality to her concern over use of the reservation routes to carry
supplies for impending construction of the Keystone XL tar-sands crude-oil
pipeline, opposed by all nine of South Dakota’s tribes.
“For every action that we take, and the tribes take, they’re setting precedent,”
said Noem. “If we allow checkpoints to shut down traffic in this situation,
then we are setting precedent for that to happen far into the future in many
other situations as well.”
“I think there’s more at play here than just the right of way,” conjectured Kimberly
Craven, legal director of the ACLU of South Dakota. “I’ve been looking at Highway
212 -- the one running east and west -- and that’s the one I think TransCanada will

Treasury sent more than 1 million coronavirus stimulus payments to dead people
congressional watchdog finds
The checks sent to dead people as of April 30 totaled nearly $1.4 billion, according to
the Government Accountability Office
The IRS has previously said that stimulus payments issued in the name of dead people
have to be returned. But aside from announcing on its website on May 6 that stimulus
payments made to dead or incarcerated individuals should be returned, the IRS does
not have plans to take additional steps toward recouping the payments, the GAO said.

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany's parents received at least $1 million
in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, according to Small Business Administration
data released this week.
McEnany Roofing, a commercial roofing company in Florida owned by McEnany's
parents, Michael and Leanne, received somewhere between $1 million and $2 million
in government assistance.
The loan was first reported by The Daily Dot.
The Daily Dot reported that about 30 people work in McEnany Roofing's corporate offices.
The company employs 141 people total, according to the loan data.
Millions in government assistance went to billionaires, such as Kanye West,
and the families of executive branch officials, such as senior White House
adviser Jared Kushner and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
Kayleigh McEnany has been a critic of such programs, telling former Fox Business host
Trish Regan in 2018 that "it was exactly right that welfare recipients should feel

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany's parents received at least $1 million
in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, according to Small Business Administration
data released this week.
McEnany Roofing, a commercial roofing company in Florida owned by McEnany's
parents, Michael and Leanne, received somewhere between $1 million and $2 million
in government assistance.
The loan was first reported by The Daily Dot.
The Daily Dot reported that about 30 people work in McEnany Roofing's corporate offices.
The company employs 141 people total, according to the loan data.
Millions in government assistance went to billionaires, such as Kanye West,
and the families of executive branch officials, such as senior White House
adviser Jared Kushner and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
Kayleigh McEnany has been a critic of such programs, telling former Fox Business host
Trish Regan in 2018 that "it was exactly right that welfare recipients should feel
enough shame to motivate themselves off of government assistance."

The U.S. Marshals Service will conduct a full investigation after a federal officer shot
a Portland protester in the head with an impact weapon Saturday night, Mayor Ted
