Griffon Hall was a Cliffside mansion that overlooked the Griffon Bay shoreline in the upper New England part of the country. It’s forty plus rooms were rented out to tourists during the summer season of the prewar years of the great world war two saga. The owners, The Sorgelli family was rumored to be tied with the evil growing power of Nazism but was never confirmed nor investigated which also castled suspicion toward the families dark side of allegiance.

The Hall remained up and running until the end of the century when Anton Sorgelli passed away at the age of one hundred and nine years and the money stopped coming to keep it going. The mansion was a famous place to stay while up in the new colony states, however with such fame also came deceit, betrayal of marriages with some ending with missing persons or death, which there was two reported cases back in the sixties.

There have been many reports of funny things happening before the closure of the mansion ranging from ghost sightings to actual assaults of female tourists. But nothing ever came out factual about these cases for no one wanted to admit that they were attacked by a ghost and become labeled emotional distressed and declared incompetent. There were even rumors of long ago about a Germany scientist was brought over here to do experimental surgeries and practices on live human test subjects of that horrific era.

Now today this mansion has been subject to numerous paranormal investigation teams going in and coming out labeled emotional distressed and psychotic. Put into mental institutions for the criminal insane. This is where our story begins for now another paranormal team packs up and gets ready to adventure into the realms of the Griffon Hall legacy….

“Well did we get it?” William asked Tamara while she was opening the letter, “I just got it open Wil give me a sec!” she felt his stare over her shoulder, “William! Did you get all the cable and links packed that Drea wanted done by dinner?” she pushed his to ‘do list’ to get him away from hovering, she hated it when he hovered.

She heard him mumble about something that she didn’t really care for she got to the meat of the letter. With each word, she read her frown began to turn upright into a full-blown smile. She looked up from the letter when she witnessed William stopping Steve and then they both head toward the storage building. She shakes her head and resumes reading the letter and regaining her smile for the team was given permission to enter the fabled Griffon Hall mansion. She took off running into the office and nearly collided head on with the stout figure of Drea.

“Drea, I have that internet information you wanted but there is really no facts proven about this place it is all rumored…” Sara spoke up without looking up from her laptop. I do have a picture of the outside and a floor plan of the place. She looked up and smiled, “Hi Tam! Did you get the letter? It was a rhetorical question.

Tamara looked at both of them with the biggest grin she could muster, “YEP!” was all she said as she started to walk away feeling the eyes of the two following her. She smiled and turned to face them. “We have the green light! We got permission!” she did the small, twist and shout movement!

For the first few years finding legit places to investigate was a nightmare. In the last decade paranormal investigators had popped up everywhere and Drea and her team was just another tear in the ocean. Most sane people would have given up and her team of nine had dwindled down to a mere five (including herself), proof that there had been sane people on her time once upon a time. Those that had stayed benefited from it as Drea found her place within the cut throat world of paranormal investigations.

Drea wasn’t going to lie, a large part of her initial success was due to her step-father, Hal. He was an engineering, mad scientist genius and had government clearing so top level high that it was beyond illegal for anyone to even know he work for the military in development and technologies. What that meant for Drea was that anything the government didn’t want, couldn’t use or didn’t care about was free market for Hal to use as he pleased. It gave Drea and her team a step up in the game as they were now able to scan, track and record data in a way that no other team could. As technology soared with the coming years so did the teams toys and the envy of other teams.

It was more than that for Drea, sure the state of the art equipment was helpful but it also built up her confidence. She became aggressive in her methods to find the truth and with her step-dad’s introduction she gained a contact list second to none. She was the girl to go to as Drea had friends in both high and low places, unfortunately that didn’t open as many doors as she had hoped. What it ultimately boiled down to was hard work, undeniable proof or evidence and the ability to scientifically show a valid explanation of any given situation.

Now at the age of 26, Drea was leading one of the world’s most renowned paranormal teams, made even more famous by their unwillingness to be put on television. They were rebels as seem by many but the truth of it Drea wasn’t a hundred present positive that the latest built toys, five automatically piloted drones decked out with sensors galore, were even legal and she wasn’t about to get Hal into trouble. That and she had a habit of saying what was on her mind and the editing time alone would have put the team over budget. And she wasn’t even the worst one of the group!

“Urg!” Drea growled at the computer screen annoyance etched deeply on her face. Each morning started the same; coffee strong and black, a slapped together attempt at getting ready for the day and heaving over to headquarters. Once at HQ it was more coffee, a muffin and emails. Gods how she missed the day of empty inboxes. Now she was cursed with hundreds if not thousands of email a day from people all over the world wanting them to investigate everything from a child’s closet to a hunted spork, yeah there was really someone out there claiming to have a plastic spork possessed with a violent spirit. It was a task that was starting to take hours out of her day as she scanned thought each and every email. Drea wasn’t quite at the point where she just randomly deleted emails. There was a chance she might delete something worth taking a look at… still every morning Drea felt that much closer to the breaking point.

Her latest obsession was Griffon Hall. It was the Holy Grail for her kind and one of the few places still left on this vastly and over analyzed earth that remained unexplainable. Drea dreamed of the old mansion and its hidden secrets. She had started her own search into the mansion’s past and everything she found, which was sadly not much, had her aching to know more, to somehow find the answers to her many, many questions. The only hard piece of intel that she did find was a caretaker’s name and address. Drea sent the caretaker a hand written letter months ago requesting permission to investigate the grounds, begging for just one night (thought she prayed for more) or to at least pass her name along to someone who could grant her the permission she wished for.

Neck stiff and eyes dry Drea pushed away from the desk with an exhausted sigh. When Drea had sent the letter off to the caretaker she had put the team on alert, they were to find anything about or related to Griffon Hall. So far they all came up empty handed and with as much time as had passed Drea was almost out of hope that they would hear anything thing.

“Oh, Tam.” Tamara was running like there was a fire somewhere and Drea tried to smiled like she had the energy to keep up but she was out of coffee. “Sara?” How did Drea the young girl huddled behind the laptop? “My what?” I really need to get a good night’s rest, Drea thought to herself catching up to what Sara had just said. “Figured as much.” She sighed again running her hand through her messy dark hair. “Print me what you found anyways and we’ll compare it to what we have.” Drea smiled, a sign of her appreciation for Sara’s hard work.

The smiled should have been clue enough to Sara’s answer but Drea was sorely behind on some ‘Z’s. “We did?” Drea perked up. “Seriously?” For a second her face fell and she gave Tam a hard look, if this was a joke… “How long?” Was the next train of thought and Drea spoke it aloud afraid of what the answer might be.

Tam stopped at the hard glare from Drea. She knew when Drea was in a playful mood and when she wasn’t. At the moment, she was exhausted and not in the playful mood. Tamara looked down at the letter and began rereading it to make sure she would tell Drea correctly. She slowly looked up and was certain in what she was going to say. She was slightly pale…

Tamara graduated with majors in Psychology, Social Science and computer Science and was targeted by Drea before the girl was even handed her Degrees with the opportunity to use her schooling in a job related field. Tam being one gifted with an open mind took instant interest in this ghost-haunting job, even after her father ridiculed her for wasting all her schooling on a foolish job that would leave her using government aid to live off of. He couldn’t be more proud of her this day, is thankful for her stubbornness, and stayed with Drea. Her mother knew the real reason why Tam stayed with Drea but never told her father and let him believe that it was her stubbornness.

There was many times Tam wanted to tell Drea of her feelings but something always came up and the time was never right then came the boyfriends and her work, which was more than the boyfriends and Tam was happy with that for when Drea was working she was with her so it worked out for her. Yes, the intimacy wasn’t there but this day and age self-gratification is easier than the real thing, not to mention less stressful.

She is still here at Drea’s side with the very same feelings. However, as in the past, she keeps this secret buried deep and share in the glory they accomplish over the past few years. Now Drea leans on her more and more each day with helping get things done. Tam wouldn’t change a thing if she had the granted wishes to do so, well one she would use but it wasn’t tormenting her so all is well In fact she is now afraid for Drea to find out for it might change the way they do things which is working between them.

Tam’s hand began to tremble for this will make Drea so astonishingly happy. She slowly walked over to the Drea keeping good eye contact with her while biting her lower lip. She shot a look over the computer geek Sara with a smile, then back to Drea with a more serious look. She cleared her throat and said without missing a heartbeat. “Until investigation is deemed complete by said investigative organization. Drea you did you! You got us in!” She handed the letter over so she could read it herself.

Sara eyes were wide and filled with glee of the good news. She got up and walked over to be with the others. Sara didn’t have the educational background as her companions. She was top notch in her high school academics with computer programming, computer operations and networking. She was hired instantly with a prestigious technological corporation that was astonished with her hands on skills that they wanted to send her to schooling, but she quit just unexpectedly and fell deep into the lower ranks of life until she met Drea in one of her investigations. She was actually more helpful then one of Drea’s team members whom Sara replaced that very next day and she has stayed due to the feeling of loyalty and the way Drea always shows her respect and acknowledges her hard work no mater how small of information she is able to come up with.

She made her way over asking to see who signed off on agreement. She was going to check them out quickly for she knew Drea would ask her to do it. “I will get you the information as soon as I get it Drea." Sara spoke just barely over the noise of her ballistic fingers scurrying over the keyboard.

Crap. The news was bad, they had like one day or even worse just a matter of hours. Drea prepared herself to hear the worse. Shit! Tam wasn’t just coming out and saying it, there was a catch or something even worse that she couldn’t think of at the moment. “Cheese and rice Tam, what is it?” She pushed watching her best friend share some secret eye message with Sara before turning back to her. “What-???” Drea heard the words clearly but her mind refused to believe in its meaning. “Until the investigation is deemed complete by, Us?” She repeated slowly, her mind coming to grips with what that could mean for them. Tam handed the letter over to her and Drea read every line over and over a smile turning her lips up. “Holy shit…” Drea laughed passing the letter over to Sara. “I- whoo! Hell yeah!!” Gone was all the stress and aggravation of this morning’s email, all Drea felt was excitement pure and overwhelming excitement.

“Tam we’re in!” Fueled by her emotions Drea, who wasn’t much of a touchy feely kind of person, hugged Tam, spinning and hopping like a schoolgirl. “I- I can’t believe this.” She beamed all but skipping over to Sara to reread the letter over her shoulder. At five foot six Drea had a good view over the head of the much shorter Sara. “You’re a Goddess Sara, you really are!”

Drea was beyond herself as she took the letter back heading off to find the guys. “Do Wil and Steve know about this?” Drea asking Tam as she headed down the hall. “Damn it.” She stopped midstep. “I have something I need to do first.” Drea handed the letter to Tammy and started to back track. “Let the guys know what’s going on and I’ll be back in,” She looked at her watch. “About an hour?” The timing couldn’t have been better as Drea took the old beat up station wagon keys and left.

An hour later Drea came back in with a brand new Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX in Santorini metallic black with ebony leather interior. And sounding of honking and yelling had her team outside. “I got tired of everyone bitching about the wag.” Drea smiled tossing the keys to the fully, and she meant fully, loaded SUV. “The ac doesn’t work, the heater smells funny.” She mimicked whiny little children voices. “We have heated seat in the front and second rows, climate control broke into seat areas and with built-in wifi and rear seat entertainment there shouldn’t’ be any more complaints.” Drea eyed Wil and threw him the keys. “You’re a horrible backseat driver.” She said simply. “And when you’re not being a nag you snore too loud. That one’s yours. Mind you, not to keep but it’ll work nicely for work. Don’t you think?” Driving up behind Drea was a clone of the Land Rover right beside it. The man hopped out of the SUV, tossed the keys to Drea and jumped into the car that tailed him. “They were on sale?” Drea blushed pocketing the second set of keys.

“Now that that’s over.” Drea smiled herding the team back outside. “Are we ready for this? I’m taking everything and I mean everything with us. With two vehicles I don’t see a reason not to.” She looked towards Wil and Steve. “This time maybe we’ll even remember the batteries?” She teased with a wink, letting them know she hadn’t forgotten about late time. “I don’t know how long we’re going to be there but plan on at least a week, maybe more.” Drea was leading the way to the war room. “There isn’t much for solid evidence to any of the allegations made against the place or the family that once lived there but I’d like to at least find something new about the Griffon Hall.” The table was round and none of the chairs matched but it fit everyone comfortably and that was what mattered. “I’d like to be out of here by tomorrow if possible so let’s quickly go over what we got and make up a gear list, just in case.” Drea took a seat and waited for everyone to get settled before starting.

Drea wasn’t sure she could get everything ready by tomorrow but she wanted to, didn’t mean that it always went the way she wanted. Okay it hardly ever went the way she wanted but by the end of the day Drea felt hopeful that they were on track. “Last on here tomorrow morning buys breakfast.” She smiled waving everyone off as she locked up headquarters. She could tell by how tired she was that tonight she was going to get a good night’s sleep, as long as she didn’t stay up all night on her laptop.

Sara walked over to Tam as Drea walked out the door. “Hey, you okay?” She had noticed for the past few months when Drea was on the edge Tam was there right with her talking her through the problem and would not just walk away until Drea was calm enough to give Tam a smile, then and only then would Tam walk away. There was chemistry there even if it was one sided and it was a warming sensations for those that was watching from afar to see the moment between them just like it was few moments ago.

“I’m fine why wouldn’t I” Tam shot a glare over to Sara trying to figure out where that question came from. She squared up with her looking deep into her eyes. “Why would you ask me that Sara? Is that letter legit?” She took a hold on Sara’s arm, “Please tell me that letter isn’t a fake! Please Sara don’t.” She was getting that deep painful pit in her stomach that made you want to pitch your lunch and if you did not have it, you wish you did feeling.

Sara’s eyes went wide, “No, No Tam the letter is legit. It is fine. I am so sorry. I was talking bout you and your feelings for Drea.” She seen the look Tam gave her, “Come on, I might not have the college education that Drea and you have, but I am a woman, and I know when I see drooling over someone. I have three brothers, so yeah; I know what that look is all about. Then when she hugged you, I saw the warmth in your face and the discomfort when she let you go. So I’m asking you are you okay.”

Tam looked down at the ground for a moment that than back up to Sara. “Yes, Sara I’m okay thanks you… I just need a cold shower!” They both smiled as Tam walked away but turned around, “Sara please don’t say anything to anybody. Please.” She smile when Sara did the zip of the mouth with her fingers. She turned and walked outside to tell the guys.

Everyone gawked at the new land rover, laughing how Drea was mimicking them on those long, long four mile trips when things wasn’t working like they should. Sara blushed for the Wifi was for her. Tam turned away giggling for she was guilt for complaining about the smell. Wil and Steve looked at each other for they were the bitchers bout the AC … Wil smiled when the evil eye of Drea fell upon him when the keys were airborne toward him. “Hey Steve is he snorer, I’m just the better driver!” Will smiled and winked at her, “I will have Steve keep it washed and waxed.” He elbowed Steve words rang out, “Ahh Hell no!”

The group gathered back up around Drea as she explained what was going to be going down. The two men pointed at each other when batteries were mentioned and a small argument erupted between the two of them till Tam Smacked Steve on the head did they refocused upon Drea while she began to lead them down to the war room. As stated, there was nothing concrete but Sara did bring up the four thousand pages that she found on the web. She scanned all the pages and the ones that had similar information with various different perspectives come up but noting was concrete. She got up in front of everyone. “I did the best I could but There is very little that is concrete however I took some information matched it with other stories and if they were close in fact I logged it and then as the end I came up with this information. Now Drea this is just what I get from all this, so please do not hold me to a stake about this if it’s not accurate.” Griffon Hall was a front for the German Scientist by the name of Helmut Hueter and his staff, his task was to produce the ultimate fighting machine by basic gene splicing with living and when they died, he tried to bring the corpse of the dead back to life as zombies somewhat. However, what we did not know there have been Paranormal teams enter into the place it is just that they never came out sane! There has been five people that have been incarcerated in Belvew for the criminal insane. That is all I got. Sorry Drea, that is all that I can find that are similar in the many of the pages of bullshit and speculations.

William flared up, “How many hours did you put into this?” he asked sarcastically. “I mean if there has been at least five teams there this is all you can come up? I mean is it not your job to get the information for us. You don’t do anything else but yet this is all the information you can give us!” Sara winced and stepped back… “No, It’s all the information out of four thousand pages that some of the stories told matched. That is all I can do. I did the best I could.” she weakly replied.

Tam came out of her seat glaring at Will; “I think we are done of this night.” she walked up to William. “You better leave that fucking attitude of yours at the fucking door. I do not give a damn if Sara told you to keep your fucking cock to yourself its right to date whom she wants. Do you fucking understand me?” She moved away from them as Drea sent everyone home for the night.

When breakfast came, everyone greeted everyone and spirits were high except Sara whom looked like death warmed over. She had blood shot eyes and was using the frig to keep herself standing. She looked over at Drea… “I have some more information about Griffon Hall.” Tam about came undone toward William but stopped by her own accord.

Sara looked at everyone, the master caretaker’s name was Lichkoft McClike a German Gestapo officer he controlled twelve people whom were believed to be Gestapo members as well. There is a single report that there is a second building underground near the mansion that was used as a prison/labs for live POW’s and kidnapped Americans to be used in the experiments. “Now, that is all I could find that wasn’t bullshit and hearsay.” She moved to the table and took a seat…

Drea laughed shaking her head already second guessing tossing Wil the keys. “You both drive like me and the only reason Steve didn’t get the keys is because I could see him trying to pick up chicks in it.” AS far as the comment about keeping it clean. “At least I know if Steve does it, it’ll be done right the first time. As you’re the one driving I think it’s only far the driver does the cleaning.” Which she was willing to back as she could be the one driving the other rig.

In the war room Sara briefed everyone on what she had on Griffon Hall. It was more then she had. Drea had the name of the doctor, that he was a scientist but couldn’t find anything narrowing down his field of research. She had also found documents on the team members that were now in Belvew but had nothing on their current status or conditions. For what little time she had given Sara and the rest of the team it was impressive the amount of logs she had thumbed through to get such promising leads.

Drea had been about to congratulate Sara on her findings when William opened his big mouth. “William!” His name rang and echoed around the room, as did the sound of Drea’s hand slamming against the table. Tam was out of her seat as fast as Drea was and was on William like no one’s business. Drea settled down and let Tam handle it, she seemed to know more about his outburst then she did. Did Wil have a thing for Sara? She hated that she didn’t have an answer to that question and frowned. Drea gave Sara a kind smile before calling it a night.

That night Drea’s mind was on her team instead of packing. In fact she was so thrown by William’s outburst in the war room that when midnight came around Drea still didn’t have her bags packed. Was she such a bad leader that she missed something like this? Tamara knew what was going on between Sara and William, maybe it was Tamara that should be running the team. The thought put a damper on her mood and in the end Drea just filled her packs not really putting much thought into what was pack and what wasn’t.

It seemed like no matter how hard Drea tried, she couldn’t fall asleep and after three hours of tossing and turning she loaded up and headed to HQ ready for the next day to start.

Drea was making a pot of strong coffee when Sara came stumbling in looking like a death rider. “Gods! Sara!” Drea dropped the coffee grounds not even caring of the mess she just made. Sara claimed to have information about Griffon Hall but she didn’t care, Sara was part of her team, part of her family and she wasn’t going to let anyone get to the people she cared about even if it was themselves. “Here, sit down.” Drea pulled up a seat and guided Sara to it. She didn’t bother with a seat herself instead taking a knee at Sara’s side as she began to talk.

Gestapo. A second building. News like this would have lite up Drea’s world but she was more worried about Sara. Drea glared at William having a feeling this had something to do with him and little to do with what he said yesterday in the war room. She was going to have to have a sit down with the boy and figure out just what was with him. But for now… “I was impressed before this, now…” Drea smiled the news still second string to her worry over her team member. “You’re amazing, you truly are. I don’t know how long I’ve been looking into Griffon Hall and haven’t yet come up with anything concrete.” The news did add a different element to the investigation.

“Okay.” Drea stood up, nodding her head, her mind already racing with the possibilities. “Now thanks to Sara we have something real to go after. I still want to get there and set up camp and have to drones map out the building just like always but while that is going on I want to walk the ground outside in for clues of this second building.” Drea targeted Wil. “Pack the LRs will you.” It sounded like a question but the look on her face gave little room to argue. “Steve here’s my card and pick up breakfast for everyone.” That got the boys out of their hair and as much as Drea wanted to sit down with Sara and Tam and be filled in there was still a few things that needed to be done. “Sara I can’t seem to log into our servers with my phone anymore.” Drea smiled knowing that out of everyone she was the worst with technology. “This apple phone is simpler then the droid one but we’re stamping out our relationship and it’s not going very well.” Drea handed Sara her iPhone 6s plus. If Sara hadn’t looked like hell she would have liked her to rescan what she found and link it back to the names that they did have but it could be done another time. “Tamara, want to go over the route so I know before we start off where I’m supposed to go?” Drea liked backroads and dirt paths and hated maps or voices from little boxes that told her where to go. Tam on the other hand seemed to know the best way to get anywhere and it didn’t bother Drea when she was the one who told her where to go.

With the morning over and done with and the afternoon well on its way Drea was sitting pretty, too far away yet for her nerves to get in the way. In the car Drea was driving was Tam and Sara with the back filled with personal packs and some of the more sensitive equipment. Behind them was Steve and Wil with all the heavy trunks, boxes and equipment. “So girl talk.” Drea ventured turning down the music. “What going on with Wil?” It was a question for the whole car and Drea was anxious to see who would say something first.

SO Girl Talk

Tam looked over at Drea with worried look that this situation was not suppose to get this far. She swallowed hard while her gaze dropped and drifted over to Sara whose look was just a mirrored version of Tamara’s. The silence was thick as each one’s orb batted the question back and forth as if it was a tennis ball. “It’s not import enough to take the thrill out of this investigation.” Sara’s soft voice rolled over her lips. Tamera reaching back to her and taking her hand for a moment.

“Sara I know what you told me but I didn’t want to say it then but with Drea here and it’s just us girls. I don’t believe you told me everything what happened that night. You seem too withdrawn for this to be a break up and you wanting to date other people. I sorry I know we agreed that this didn’t need to get this far but I couldn’t take Wil slamming you so hard. I’m sorry.” Tam looked at her for a moment then looked away from Sara with watered eyes.

Sara’s eyes watered up as well. “I just don’t want this team to break up. It’s been my home, my life for all this time and … Please I can handle it.” She closed her eyes and was biting her lip not forsure what to say. She knew Drea was more than likely upset for being left in the dark for she was not only the boss but also a friend. What was she to do with the team on the way to the most important investigation that team has ever hard or talk and watch the team be ripped apart or if she didn’t say something risk losing Drea for not trusting her. She couldn’t hold the tear in any longer.

“No Tam I didn’t tell you everything. In fact, I really didn’t tell you all or the truth. Wil found out what I did when I left TechTron enterprise and was holding this fact over my head for sometime. At first it was money that I was paying him to keep him from going to the authorities.” She looked up in the rearview mirror at Drea. “I took some plans from their research and development and sold the information to Cyberdyne for a hefty amount of money. I left Techtron before the investigation was complete and fell of the grid. I umm created a new identity for myself, that is when I met you Drea, and when I joined you I was using you to hide me for no one really takes these investigation teams serious so it was perfect for me. I don’t feel this way now… OH GOD DREA! “Tears fell more from her eyes. “I’m so sorry.”

Tam’s mouth was gapped open in disbelief in what she was hearing coming from this sweet little woman. She shot a glance at Drea but couldn’t read how she was taking this news… “But that’s no big deal, that was before you joined us and you have been a power house for this team.
Tam shot out what she should to get Sara to move on with what was really going on.

Sara looked over to Tam and then to Drea.” I have done nothing to jeopardize this team in anyway. What I did back then was the worse I have ever done except removing all the data streaming charge on Drea’s phone.” she admitted. “Okay please let’s not make a deal out of this please. We have an investigation to handle… When the money wasn’t enough, he wanted more… Therefore, I was sleeping with him, which didn’t bother me until it got really rough. I couldn’t take all the pain that he was causing with the equipment he was using on me. Therefore, when he came to get me for my second session with him I refused for I just hurt too much after he gets done with me. That is it… I promise but let’s just drop it… The team is more important. Wil was only stating a fact that I’m a worthless whore as he puts it to me during that session… I let everyone down the small amount of information I was getting.” she pushed back into the seat and closed her eyes, her body trembling and then jerking as she cried.

Tam was white as a ghost and speechless. She knew Wil love giving orders when Drea wasn’t around and he always got into her face and was changeling her but she never knew he was into that stuff. She looked over at Drea lost in the shock of what just came out of Sara’s mouth…

Drea listened to everything with a hard look on her face and said nothing. She didn’t know what to say. It wasn’t that there was a lot to take in it was just surprising that things had gone this way.

“Sara, it’s alright.” Drea soothed with a soft voice, her face falling into a sweet smile. “I’m not mad at you. I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t come to be before this but I’m not mad in any way.” Drea took a deep breath ready to make a confession of her own. “If it makes you feel any better I already knew.” There was a moment of silence before Drea continued. “With all my government connections do you think that I didn’t have everyone background checked?” Drea would have felt bad if it wasn’t about safety. Once someone joined her team they because her responsibility and that meant keeping them as safe as she could for everyone and everything. “I didn’t have a problem with it then and you confirming it now doesn’t change that.” She looked into the rearview mirror looking Sara in the eye. “So don’t cry, okay. You’re still Sara in my eyes, still my friend. Still family.” Drea said in a friendly but firm tone. “I should have told you before but I was waiting for you to come to me.”

“As for William…” That was a different matter completely. Of course she knew about his night time fun and games, he had once even invited her to ‘play’ one night but she wasn’t one to submit and obey. Drea took a deep breath, held it and let it out slowly. “I can’t say that I’m not mad at him because I am and saying otherwise would be a lie.” Drea’s grip on the steering wheel got tighter and the speed of the car accelerated. “But…” She said annoyed that she was going to let it go. “What Wil did to you is your own matter. I would love to tell him what I think but…” Drea paused again gritting her teeth. “It’s your problem and I’ll drop it if you want. I just want you to know that I am here for you in any way that I can be.” Drea promised looking back at Sara again.

There was still one thing left to talk about and it was the biggest one yet. “In the nicest way possible I want to shake the crap out of you.” Drea grumbled switching lanes. “You are far from worthless.” She didn’t know what she wanted to do more, shake Sara like she claimed or hug her. “I’ve been looking into Griffon Hall for a little more than a year and with only three days under your belt you got more information than I ever did.” Drea smiled changing her tactics. “If that makes you worthless, what does it make me?” Unsure if it worked or not Drea moved on. “Look I’m not the easiest person to get along with and I don’t like very many people, much less respect them.” Taking her eyes off the road for a second Drea quickly turned around in her seat and looked Sara face to face. “I not only like you but I respect you. You’re smart, witty, beautiful and a wonderful person. Not to mention you’re a wizard in front of a computer and you save me from streaming charges. You are irreplaceable and I wouldn’t have anyone else on my team but you.” The speech took a bit longer then Drea had thought and was grateful for the mostly empty roadway.

“Now…” Drea smiled changing the subject. “I have yet to see the Magic Mike movies and I’ve been told by Tam more than once that I need to see it. After we setup camp do you want to call it a movie night?”

The rest of road trip was as smooth as silk. There was singing, laughing and storytelling and after too many hours of driving they arrived at Griffon Hall.

“Will you take a look at that!” Drea whistled getting out of the SUV stretching this way and that. The manor was beautiful, even more magnificent then the pictures she had seen of it. “Can you imagine what it would have been like to live in something like this in its prime?” Just standing there taking it in Drea got goosebumps. There was something about this place that spoke to her and despite the evils told about the mansion and its past, Drea felt herself fall in love with it. There was a lick of rage at the family who owned it, how could they let it fall away like this?

As much as Drea wanted to just stand there taking Griffon Hall in there were things that need to be done, they were here to work and they needed to make camp away from the mansion. “Let’s get to work!” Drea beamed clapping her hands together and returned to the SUVs. “I’m thinking of setting up camp against that tree line.” Drea pointed curbing her flash of anger at seeing Wil for the first time since Sara unveiling. “Good sight lines to three of the four sides don’t you think?” She asked the team wanting their feedback. Not everyone saw things the same and if someone saw something she didn’t she wanted to hear about it.

Tam went along with Drea's words while in the Suv for she didn't want to have a face off with her in front of Sara. She cut up, joked and laughed with the other two but deep down she was angry as fuck at the position Drea took with William and Sara. She really thought Drea would take a stronger stance than what she did especially when she seen the anger flare up in her, maybe she was afraid of Wil or he had something on her as well Tam thought to herself.

Sara smiled when Drea turned around and looked at her instead of the road; it made her feel the words that fell upon her ears. She never doubted a single thing that Drea told her, and when she said the hard truth about Wil, she knew that was the truth as well. Her gaze did catch the angry look upon Tam's face but was relieved when it appeared that she let the matter go. She as the others joined in joyful nature that took place the rest of the way.

Upon arriving at Griffon Hall Sara reminded the other two that this was movie night and not to get overwhelmed by the thrill of being here and forgetting. She was excited about movie night for some odd reason. She smiled at the both of them when she got their nods before they got out of the SUV.

Tam was about to go have a word with William but Drea's words stopped her as she too took an admiring look at the building. Tam looked at the building once more before answering, "No I can't for it’s too hard to even come close without having anything to compare it too!” But you know what is funny for it being so popular why can't anyone get concrete evidence of it anywhere?" Tam asked confused about that point.

Sara held a very disturbed look upon her face while tapping frantically on the keyboard. She then proceeded to unplugged several attachments then reconnecting them in a remembered pattern. She pulled her phone and looked at it with an equally confused look. "Drea I can't get any connection of any kind! She looked around at the area they were in; we might have to set up our own tower and set the parameters, then set our own SNS numbers." She frowned for it would take three to four hours to set the numbers.

Tam looked over at Sera for a moment then pulled out her phone. "Damn this isn't going to work without having the phones as back ups!" She shot a glance over to Drea. She hated the radios and their personal lights as well, for the last time she went out alone both sets of batteries went dead, it took Drea a few hours to find her. “I’m not going in there without the phones! Tam shook her head violently, looking over how huge the place was. "No way in hell!" She wrapped her arms around herself as she began to feel that fear wrapping around her chest like before.

"Tam, I will get the phones working! I don't have a choice for most of our cameras are Wifi. I will get it going in three hours." Sara tried to clam her down somewhat concerned why she was so tense. "If your this stressed up over my problem please don’t. I'm a big girl and should be able to handle this myself as Drea has already said.” She licked lip and slowly bit down trying to keep her own emotions at bay. “I have to the roof and put up the tower, than program the cipher box to scan frequencies. It should only take a few hours if all goes well,” her fingers were still typing away at the keyboard.

Tam claimed down and looked over to where Drea was talking up the campsite. “Yes, it also has some of those higher tress that we can use for downward angle shots. Plus we will on need to wide angle cameras on this point.” She voiced her two cents worth.

Steve and Wil were still unloading all the equipment when Wil walked over when Sara was talking about going to the roof. “Yeah, I will go with you Sara we can put a rotating Camera up there looking over the area along the building as well.” He replied with a hunger look in his eyes while he stared at her. His eyes were not ashamed if anyone was looking for they traveled up and down her…

Drea shrugged at Tam’s question. The lack of hard information about Griffon Halls was one of the biggest draws for Drea. If her team could be the first ones to find something out about this place, answer some of those questions that were out there and maybe even figure out what happened to those other teams… It wasn’t the fame that made Drea smile but the recognition that what they did was more than spook tours and hoaxes. Plus Drea hated not having an answer to a question for there was more driving her then just her team.

“One way or another we are going to find out.” She grinded turning to Tam. “We’re the only team in history to be granted unprecedented access to Griffon Hall. With all the time we have I see no reason we can’t find that concrete evidence.”

Drea liked to pretend she knew what Sara was talking about but she could have been speaking in Greek for as much sense as it made to her. “Just tell me what you need or how I can help.” Drea offered. There wasn’t much else she could do, she had seen Sara set up a system like the one she was talking about before but she hadn’t done much but scale a wall or a tree or help put something together. “We can always have our movie night tomorrow.” She told Sara removing the pressure of a timeline.

But before Drea could properly handle and run through a game plan with Sara, Tam started to freak out. “Tam, calm down.” Drea soothed her friend stepping in front of her so she was Tam’s main focus. “It’s still light out and will be for the next few hours. I’m sure Sara can patch something by then, hack into the Land Rover’s wifi or whatever to ping off some satellite or something like that.” She said waving her hands about. “If she doesn’t have anything up by nightfall we’ll just call it for the day and hang around camp. It’s not that big of a deal. If we were under some strict timeframe I might be a little more stressed but you know what…” Drea smiled putting her hands on Tam’s shoulders. “We have all the time in the world.” Drea remembered the time when Tam got lost and the state she was in when she found her. “Plus I’ll be here to find you again, I won’t ever leave you behind.” She promised knowing it was something she would never break. Tamara was her best friend and someone she had grown accustom to having in her life. “See!” Drea waved towards Sara as she did her part in calming Tam. “Everything is going to be okay.”

Drea took a deep breath. It suddenly felt like there was a lot going on and Drea didn’t really know how to deal with it. This was mostly all emotional and Drea wasn’t the best at that kind of thing, did she give everyone hugs and rub their backs or just leave them alone?

“That’s what I was thinking too.” She pointed to the opposite tree line and pointed at a great bog old tree. “And we can put a camera on that tree to cover that side of the building and our camp.” Wil joined the group and offered to help Sara but Drea saw the way he looked at Sara and her rage spiked. “No.” Drea said sharply, her hands curling into fists as she fought off the need to say something. She had told Sara that she would follow in her lead and drop the matter if that was really what she wanted but Drea was starting to rethink her stance on this matter. It was harder to deal with when Wil stood there eyeing Sara like a vulture. “I need help setting up all the tents. Steve can go with Sara.” There were four large tents in all plus Drea’s hammock tent to put up. On shorter trips there was less to setup, in fact the command tent and the food tent had been the same tent at one time before Drea got clumsy and spilled a bowl of cereal near Sara’s equipment. The look she got had her investing in another tent the moment they were back home. “I can setup the sleeping tents while you set up the command tent and Tam sets up the food tent.” Drea directed.

The sleeping tents were twin roomed tents tall enough to stand in without ducking your head, with a common area in the middle and two rooms on either side that could be opened or close off with removable dividers. It also featured a large tarp like mud mat with a roll out canopy. More importantly it comfortably fit a fully inflated queen sized air mattress in each room so no one could complain about being uncomfortable. The food tent was another three roomed tent laid out in an even ‘L’ shape with the same large tarp like mud mat and canopy so the whole tent from overhead looked like a perfect square. Drea would have helped Tam setup the food tent but last time she did all she managed to do was get in Tam’s way and piss her off with her man like organization of the kitchen. The command tent was another matter completely and easily the largest of the tents. It was made out of heavy duty waterproofed canvas, with windows on each side and a top tarp that made an overhanging canopy over the front. It was an old tent and heavy as shit but it would protect the expensive electronics from the elements and that was all that mattered. It was also its weight that had Drea assigning the chore to Wil.

“So now that everyone has a job to do, let’s get going.” Drea shooed everyone on their way in the general direction that they should be going. Her own sleeping arrangements were far different than the others preferring a hammock tent to sleeping on the ground. It also keep her to the side of everyone as she slept. It always seemed to be that when they were on an investigation she was haunted by nightmares and strangely real feeling dreams. Drea had always chalked them up to her excitement and late night research. Which wasn’t a problem until she started fighting or woke with a start with a knife in her hand. It had happened a time or two and was just another reason she slept alone.

Drea collected the tents and dropped them in the rough spot of where she wanted them. The command tent was forefront with the food tent off to the side and back a bit and the sleeping tents on either side. The porta potty tent she tucked into the trees where there was some privacy. A bit of a distance from that she threw down the wash tent, also hidden in the trees. Drea figured with as long as it would take to setup camp it would give Sara the time she needed to get everything running and for Drea to get over her current feelings about Wil.

Tam looked over at Drea with a smirk upon her face when she stopped Wil right in his tracks with assigning him with tent detail and sent Steve to help Sara with the tower. She was pleased that Drea recanted her statement about not helping Sara with William for she knew as well did Drea that Sara was too much of a submissive persona to stop William for continuing to abuse her for his own sexual gratification. She would love to show William what he could do with that skimpy ass cock of his, but she didn’t really want to cause a ripple where as Drea being the boss it would not be a ripple for it would be do this of pack your bags, get the fuck out. William enjoyed the fame that he was getting free by just being with Drea and this team so he would not go against her.

Tam bit her lip as she watched Drea moving about bending over and placing the tent supplies around the area. She looked at the building and just shivered as she felt that eerie feeling. She moved over to Drea, “Damn I already got the Willies… She looked deep into Drea’s eyes and just wanted to melt. She shook her head for these emotions should not be flaring up like this but she could not help it. She continued to look at Drea with a building hunger. “Oh No,” She turned away and walked toward the food tent supplies. I cannot be doing this, what is up with me? She asked herself as she began to spread the tent out. Tam took her glances over at Drea when she could without her knowing it.

She wanted to say something about this but hell Drea didn’t even know that she was a lesbian let alone that she had strong feelings toward her so how in the hell can she tell her about this strange behavior affecting her. Maybe it was just this place has gotten her excited and that in turn has set off her arousal instincts toward Drea. She dropped her head, took a deep breath and then started with the tents again. She even took a long glance at William trying to get herself angry to stop the burning she had down below but it didn’t help as Tam noticed that her nipples were hard and poking though her shirt.. “Shit …” She pushed down on them trying to kill the arousal with pain.

Sara looked over as she Steve stepped next to her and took the equipment from her hands. She smiled at him but quickly dropped the smile as William glared at her. She turned and walked to the fire escape that dangled down from the roof to the ground. “Well at least we don’t have to walk through the building looking for the stairwell that would take us to the roof as she pointed toward the building. Steve smiled too at that statement for he did not really want to go trucking through the place this late in the day, without checking all the equipment first. That was what caught him off guard when Drea changed the setup formula that she always went with since William forgot to charge all the batteries and that was how Tam got in that bad situation the last time. Therefore, he has been the battery charge/equipment specialist until now. He looked at William and wondered what was going on but refrained from saying anything. Maybe Drea wanted a change.

Sara and he took off toward the building and the fire escape while the rest of the team setup the tents to where Drea wanted them. Tam’s arousal faded after a period of time. After a few hours, the tents were up but Sara, Steve was not back, and the sun was on its last half hour before complete sunset. Tam walked over to the small campfire that William set up and took her seat next to Drea… “She did say two to three hours right?” Tam’s worry evident in her voice, “Do we go up looking for them? “ She looked over at William who was also looking at the fire escape and his watch. The mood on his face was almost one of jealousy and a building of anger.

As the time passed, the darkness took over, off in the distance streaks of lightning just possibly and hour away before getting to the mansion. Tam shot a glance at Drea “They have been gone for three hours and thirty seven minutes but who is counting.” Tam barked while William got up and started toward the fire escape his jealousy and anger hit the limit as he was just thinking he was taking advantage of Sara’s submissive persona and was probably fucking her up there. His steps were heavy as he made his way … “Drea do we go or not?” She looked at Drea with that worried look…

UP on the Roof Sara continued to type away as she did the server providers establish having trouble defeating a new security system. She was cursing for she knew Drea would be worried about them. She looked over a Steve whom was busy looking at his ipad for he downloaded some movies before coming so he wasn’t too concern how long it took her. “Hey girl just take a deep breath and you will get this.” his hour ago statement bounce around her head.

“WHAT THE FUCK!” Steve hands pulling Sara up and behind him as he stared across the roof… “Shhhhh… Sara, I am sorry but just stay behind me… “His eyes squinted using the lighting as a white background to search. He seen a figure in the last flash of lightening but not it was gone. He searched everywhere. His head was pounding for his heart was in this throat… “What is it?” Sara’s voice made him jump… “Wow… don’t do that!” Steve chuckled… “Hey it was nothing girl lets get that net going… “Sara just smiled at him… “It’s up… You pulled me up just as I was going to stand up and tell you I had it… What are you looking for Steve…?” Sara looked out over the rooftop in search of what he was possibility looking for… “Nothing lets get back to the camp they are probably worried about us.”

Back at the camp Tam’s phone sounded off that a connection was established. “By the Gods She got it… " she voiced feeling much better…

“The willies? About what?” Drea was too in love with Griffon Hall to be scared of it or its dark and hidden past. “This place is, I don’t know. Charged in some way.” For Drea the feeling was something akin to being trapped outside during a lightning storm. Exciting and maybe just a little dangerous. “I could live in a place like this.” Drea sighed a fond smile on her lips. She didn’t know what the real history to this place was but Drea was convinced that it wasn’t a bad as everyone claimed it to be. Rumors after all only grew with time and the unknown.

Tam had left her side by the time Drea had stopped fawning over the old building. “Tam?” Drea said aloud turning to find her friend setting up the food tent like she had asked. “Ah…” She frowned wondering if, in her daydreams of what this place might have looked like in its prime, she had missed something. If she had it mustn’t have been that important because if it was Tam would have snapped her out of her own head. And if she was mad she would have punch her in the arm or something like that.

With a shrug Drea started to set up the sleeping tents, first the boys then the girls before setting up her hammock nearest the girl’s tent but still a ways away. It seemed like Tam and Wil were finished before her and she joined them at the campfire she assumed Wil made. She was about to ask where Sara and Steve was but by the looks on their faces she could guess at the answer and sat down instead. “She did say two to three hours.” Drea agreed without worry not even bothering to check her watch. Sara was running behind but she knew that if she went looking for the young girl it would only make her nervous and take longer for her to complete her task. “I wouldn’t worry quite yet.” Drea mused, her eyes tracking Wil’s every move and emotion. Now that she had been made aware of his feelings it was all Drea could see when she looked at him. And what she saw now on his face had her more worried then Sara not being here.

Drea laughed turning to smile at her friend. “You, you’re always counting. How do you not have more gray hairs?” She joked a movement from the other side of the fire killing her smile. “Stay here.” Her tone was gravely and dark as she stood up and followed Wil. Behind her a phone chimed and Tam excited stated that Sara got the network up but as happy as Drea was to have it up and running, her main concern was Wil.

“Hey.” Drea called out to Wil jogging over to put herself between him and the fire escape. “What’s going on?” Her words sounded like small talk but her tone was one of corded warning.

William stopped when Drea stepped in front of him. His eyes held a glare of anger in them while they bounced around shifting his gaze over Drea’s face. His fist clenched at his side thinking of Steve’s cock fucking his bitch’s pussy. Drea’s question was heard, but was ignored A very lengthy amount of time passed before He snapped out of the image and looked at her with a cold glare. “Just going to check on Steve and Sara, It would never take her this long unless she was wanting it to last this long.” His teeth gritted and popped as the anger was growing the more he thought about them in that sexual imagery his mind was supply to itself. “Why do I get the feeling your stepping into our personal lives here Drea…? I thought it didn’t matter what we did as long as it didn’t link to this team or caused problems… I don’t see any problems or being any unwanted attention to this team so back off.” His tone carried his anger.

Tam looked up from her moment of glee to witness something that curved that happiness. Her heart raced when she witnessed William walking toward the fire escape and Drea right behind him calling to him. She stood up when Drea step in front of him and she witness his hands clenching to form fists. She felt her heart skip a beat. ‘That bastard better not even think about it hitting her!’ She moved quickly that away but slowed down when she became dizzy and stumbled over her own feet. She landed face first with a gasp as the air was knocked out of her. She rolled to her back trying to catch her breath. The dizziness she felt was now gone as fast as it came. She shook her head slightly before pushing herself up to a sitting position. She turned around to see what was going one with William and Drea. She still seen red looking at him for he still had his fist clenched into fists.

Steve was looking at Sara when he appeared to him in a flash of lighting that her face lost all of its blood and she was white as a sheet. Her body was shaking right along with the trembling of her lips. Her eyes were wide and she was raising her hands when she screamed, “OH MY GOD!” She started to back up and lost her footing. She slides down the roof screaming when she twisted just in time to catch the foot bars at the edge of the roof. Her screaming echoed in the night as she fought to keep her grip…

Tam shot up from her position on the ground. She looked up at Sara and took off running toward the fire escape until the dizziness hit her again and she fell to the ground holding her head as if she was in intense pain. Her body jerked as she moved herself into a fetal position. “Mommy… don’t go … I will be a good girl…” She cried out … “No! Mommy I will be a good girl…” She cried out again… Then she went silent…

“Hold on Sara, I’m coming.” Steve slowly slide down the roof to where he caught the foot bar with his feet. He reached down. “You’re going to have to swing up to me with one hand.” He was just four inches away from her hand… “I CAN’T!” Sara cried out… Her hand was slipping from the bar… “I’m going to fall…” She lost her grip… Steve lunged forward and just managed to clasp around her wrist… “I got you girl!” He pulled her up to him where she pushed herself into his arms… “I got you girl… You’re okay… “He looked at the foot bar and seen it made it’s way all the way over to the fire escape level platform…

Before long Sara and Steve was coming down the fire escape. William moving over there with that boiling anger and grabbed a hold of Sara’s arm and yanked her to him and was about to yell at her when Steve’s fist connected to the bottom of his chin sending William to the ground with a thud. Steve pulled Sara to him and walked her toward Tam… “Drea what the fuck is going on around here!” Steve asked looking over at William then down to Tam… “What happened to her? Did that Bastard touch her?” Steve was now the one getting anger flaring…

“Drea… We … I… Saw… I saw… A … “She fell silent as once again her face turned white just recalling what she seen… Her body began to shake and shiver. She turned away from Steve and walked to Drea encompassing her in a very tight hug… “Hold me please…” She whispered into Drea’s ear … Steve moved over to Tam and was checking her out shaking his head as if something was very wrong… Tam’s face was white as a sheet and her lips were trembling…

“Whatever do you mean William?” Drea asked in the politest tone she could muster, meanwhile her eyes blazed with fury. “I’m just looking out for the team. We haven’t scouted this area and I would hate for someone to get hurt for doing something stupid.” Her threat thinly veiled behind a smile. “As far as Sara goes, how long she takes is my problem. And I don’t have one. So back down.” The smile was gone as Drea stepped up to William all traces for friendliness erased from her face.

William outweighed her and could probably throw a mean punch that would only be strengthened by his anger but Drea didn’t care. At the moment he was a danger to Sara and possibly Steve and if she had to direct his anger at her to save them, she was fine with that. There was also the fact that tucked down the calf her of her boot as a knife and Drea had been taught not to fight fair but to fight to win. It was ugly but if Drea had to cheat to get Willian down to calm she was prepared for what that might mean and the consequences of such actions.

Past William, Tamara was having problems but Drea was only focused on Wil and what his reactions to her standing in his way might be. She didn’t see Tam go down.

It was Sara’s screaming that had Drea’s attention in the current moment. “SARA!!” Panic filling every inch of her body as she saw Sara slid down the roof side grasping for anything that she could get a hold of. “Fuck!” Drea cursed spinning away from Wil to run towards the fire escape. Could Sara hold on until she got up there? “I’m coming!” Drea screamed up at the roof, the slight of Steve coming to rescue her only slightly reducing her fear. Did Steve have her? She was frozen in her spot too terrified to move, she had to see, to make sure that Steve could save her. There was another noise behind her but Drea’s brain couldn’t focus on anything more than Sara and Steve. “Please God…” Drea wasn’t one to pray but as she watched Steve reach out and Sara fall short of his grip. “NO!!!!” Sara slipped and Drea ran towards the mansion with every intention of catching her, mindless to the impossibilities. But Steve caught her at the last minute and Drea released the breath that she was holding.

Drea wanted to rush up the fire escape to get Sara and make sure she was okay but she nervously paced back and forth in front of the fire escape, her eyes never leaving Sara. Sara’s foot hadn’t even touched solid ground when William grabbed hold of Sara. Drea opened her mouth to say something when Steve’s fist made contact with Wil’s face. What the fuck? Drea stopped midstep and looked from William to Steve to Sara and then between the boys again. Steve’s question snapped her out of her confusion. “First off, thank you for saving Sara and punching Wil. Second, punching will was uncalled for.” Drea followed Steve’s line of sight and noticed for the first time, with a flush of embarrassment, Tam on the ground. “I’m not sure.” Drea walked over to Tam and helped her up off the ground. “No he didn’t touch her.” Drea said with more confidence then she felt. She had turned around and taken her eyes off Tam. For all she knew Wil could have touched Tam and be the reason for her being on the ground.

Sara broke the growing moment for Drea. “Shh. It’s okay.” She soothed returning Sara’s hug with one of her own. Drea rested her cheek on the top of Sara’s head and rubbed her back. “I’m here, you’re safe. I got you.” She whispered, her mind scrambling to figure things out. She didn’t want to break the hug but something had to be done about the team. There were too many questions and too many things that had to be said and dealt with. Drea looked up at Tam, William and Steve.

“Campfire now.” Drea’s tone of voice left little room to argue. “Come on.” She whispered in a gentler tone to Sara tucking her under her arm as she guided them to the campfire. Tam still didn’t look right and Drea reached out the comfortingly rub her arm as she passed slowing down to keep pace with her.

Dean placed Sara in her camp chair near the fire. “Take a seat.” She pointed at the open seats as she headed to the food tent for some water and a tea pot. Drea didn’t know about everyone else but she felt like a hot cup of cocoa with mini marshmallows. Arms full with hot cocoa, marshmallows because she couldn’t find the mini ones, instant coffee, a filled tea pot and a cooking grill Drea returned to the fire and putting the grate down first over the flames added the tea pot off to the side to warm the water and unceremoniously dropped everything else to the ground. It was all sealed and there was nothing the first could do to hurt it.

“Now.” Drea sighed sitting between Sara and Tam. “Who wants to go first? Get something off their mind or clue us in on their resent asshole like persona?” She smiled, the last bit directed at Wil. “Because I have a lot of questions and nowhere near enough answers and we all know how much I dislike not knowing things.”

Sara spoke up first for what she had to say was why they were here. She wiped the tears from her face as she looked into the small flames of the campfire. “Steve and I saw something on the roof in the flashes of the heat lightening that was skittering across the sky.” She began to tell the tale but stopped as if trying to put words to what they saw. She was trembling as she sat there collecting her words carefully, when Steve spoke up taking the attention off of her. “What I saw was just a shadow coming across the far end of the manor approaching us.” His hands gesturing as he spoke about where he saw the shadow.

His gaze traveled over to Sara still seeing she was having trouble accepting or believing what she saw was real, or maybe something she materialized from her imagination, so he continued to tell her what he saw. “It was moving toward us so I reached down and pulled Sara up from the tower and put her behind me. When we turned back toward the shadow, we couldn’t find it. Therefore, I figured it was gone so I turned toward the fire escape and when I looked at Sara she was white as a ghost and when I turned to look, she must have taken a step back, lost her balance, and rolled over the angled top. “That was all he really had to say about that except about William. “Now about this dick weed. I’m getting sick and tired of seeing you dog Sara, grabbing her as if you own her. There has been several times aback at the equipment shed that I seen you yanking her around like some damn rag doll, well Dog your yanking her ass around ends this very night.” Steve shot a glare at William.

Tam just sat there staring at the fire when Sara spoke up once more… “Look all of you… What goes on in my life I am responsible for and that I have to handle it. She bit her lip as if she wasn’t telling the truth but was doing this to save the team. “Please just let’s focus on this!” she pointed at the manor.. “This is what we need to be talking about not William’s dominance over me!” She trembled as she finally spoke it in front of everyone. “Now, that we all know this is what I want.. She looked at Drea … I want you to leave me alone William, I am not your rag doll, cum muffin as you call me.. I am Sara and I am here to work with Drea, not be with you.. Now that Drea knows and you know I just told her it’s your problem now, not mine..” She shot a look at Drea as if wanting support for her decision.

Tam didn’t even get a rise out of the conversation as she stared at the fire. Her body began to rock back and forth. While William sat there, boiling at this point was shaking his head for now it was out and Drea had the ammo to hold over him to keep him at bay for he couldn’t afford not to be working with her. She paid more than most factories paid people and that was a deterrent as he just sat there. He didn’t give a damn about Steve’s threat for William knew he could take the man easily. William felt the eyes on him so he just raised his hand as acknowledging all that Sara just spoken and the look from Drea…

Steve looked over at Sara, “What happened up on the roof Sara?” he wanted to know what happened for this could’ve been a completely different outcome. Sara looked at Steve then over to Drea .. “I saw a German solider but it was all disfigured in the face half of its face was a skull.. That why I’m not so sure if I seen it or imagined it. The tension up there was tense.” she admitted. She looked over at Tam and then Drea pointing to Tam..

Drea listened carefully to what Sara and then Steve had to say about what they had seen on the rooftop. As Drea hadn’t been there to see it for herself she logged it in her mind not as hard evidence but as a lead, something to be looked into. It wasn’t that she didn’t believe either of them but she had seen too much of what people claimed to be ghosts only to turn out to be illusions cast by the environment and the person’s imagination.

The conversation quickly turned from the sighting to Sara and William. Drea opened her mouth to say something but Sara spoke up first and Drea sat back both stunned and proud. She looked just as terrified talking about this as she had trying to talk about what she had seen up on the roof. Drea wanted to reach out and comfort Sara but feared that her touch would break Sara’s courage. So she sat back with a smile. When Sara looked at her Drea simply smiled and nodded her head slowly once. There was nothing she had to say, she had said to all and with that simple movement Drea allied herself behind Sara.

Steve dove deeper into what Sara saw but Drea was distracted by Tam. She looked lost, he mind far from here and distant. Like an echo Drea heard what Sara said, the solider with the disfigured face but again it was just a lead possibly fueled by fear and the unknown. Sara herself had even admitted to not knowing if part of it had been her mind playing tricks on her.

“Tam.” Drea spoke softly reaching out to touch her arm. “Tamara.” She spoke more forcefully when she didn’t get a reaction from Tam. The teapot started to whistle and Drea got up our of her seat and made a mug of hot cocoa adding a marshmallow on the top of the hot liquid. Kneeling in front of Tam’s chair, Drea pressed the mug into her hands worry twisting her face. “What’s the matter, what happened?”

William angered stood up and walked away from the group heading toward his tent. Sara moved next to Tam wanting to grab her and pull her into to hug, but when Drea didn’t touch her then making that kind of a move must be a very bad idea. Steve watched from his place next to the campfire not wanting to crowd the group of girls. His eyes drifted over to the tent where William took off in a huff. He just didn’t understand the man’s ridiculous attitude her of late, and now here is Tamera acting all nutty. He began to think about the other teams that came here many years ago that ended up in the Insane home.. Maybe this is what happened to them..

A familiar voice cut through the swirling grey of Tamera’s mind, a voice belonging to the woman she loved with all her heart. She reached out to the voice and felt something being pushed into her hands, it was a warm ceramic mug, filled with hot chocolate, the scent pulled her through the swirls of black and grey. She opens her eyes and see’s Drea staring at her asking what happened. Tamara just started to shake and cry.. “I.. “ She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. Blow out hard, “I saw Sara falling from the roof and in sheer panic I took off towards the fire escape. “ Her face took on a worried look before looking down away from Drea’s glare. “Your going to think I’m crazy..” She started to tear up even more with that fear slamming into her chest.

Sara was really wanting to take a hold of her, She looked over at Drea then back to Tam. She bit her lip feeling totally helpless at this moment. She didn’t like seeing Tamera like this nor hearing her being so unsure of herself or of Drea whom would never think of Tamera in that manner, but yet Tamera was worried, terrified of the possibility that she would .. Sara moved closer to Drea, wanting to get into the Tamera’s field of vision. Sara wanted Tam to know that she was there wanting to help as well.

Steve looked about the grounds, back at the mansion, up to the roof and realized there was not storm down here.. “Hey guys.. It was a massive Storm up on the roof.. Why is it all clear and starry down here?”

As Drea watched Wil storm away she frowned thinking to herself that maybe her team just wasn’t ready for something like this. Had she put too much pressure on them, forced them into a situation that was beyond them? Drea didn’t have the answer to her questions and it saddened her to see how quickly they were falling apart in what should be their greatest moment. If nothing else they had something no other team had been granted, unlimited access to Griffon Hall and that was something no one else could claim. So why was it that all of this was coming down upon them all right now?

“Crazy?” The frown on Drea’s face was etched deeper on her brow as she considered her friend’s words. She had done the same thing, rushed towards the roof access in a panic, why would that make her crazy? Or was it something that she saw, did she see the same things that Sara and Steve had seen up on the roof? “I’m not going to think you’re crazy.” She assured Tam. “It’s okay, you don’t need to cry.” Drea reached out and covered one of Tam’s hand’s with her own. “What happened, I need to know.” If there was a real threat to this area Drea wasn’t going to force her team to be here it if meant risking their safety. As much as it would pain her to drive away.

“”What?” Drea turned her head from Tam to look back at Steve. A storm? Drea’s eyes followed the roofline of the mansion to the trees and as far out as she could but it wasn’t as far as the storm must have been. Tall old trees surrounded Griffon Hall and they easily blocked the view Steve and Sara must have had on the roof. “Maybe it’s further out then it looked?” Drea offered logically. “Being that high you must have had a further line of sight then down here on the ground. Was it big enough to call it for the night?” She asked glad that they had at least finished pitching up camp before all this happened.

Her eyes drifted back to Tam and her hand reassuringly rubbed the back of Tam’s hand. Sadly she looked at Sara making sure she still looked okay. For the first time tonight Drea felt the weight of being a leader of a team. Normally there wasn’t that much to worry about between the five of them but it was one of those days that the preverbal camel’s back had broken and everything was hitting the ground at once. Maybe there was something to this place that was more than just logic and facts. But as much as Drea wanted to believe that there was a mystical reason for her teams’ breakdown there was too much evidence against such an easy escape.

Tam looked at Drea with heavily irritated, red filled irises. “Please don’t think I’m crazy…” her trembling lips repeated the request. When I was running toward the mansion. I ran through a black mist and then the next thing I know I run into my mothers Canning Shelves knocking a few jars off the shelf and my father was there scolding me with a hatred that I never heard in my life and was taking his belt off. I looked at my mother and she was walking up the stairs leaving me… I begged for her to stay and I even told her I would be a good girl if she would stay but she left me… She left me there… Tam’s tears fell down her cheek… “I told her I would be a good girl…What did I do wrong?” She seemed to be reliving a moment of her childhood…

Sara’s eyes went wide and her face paled as if all the blood drained from her face when she looked into Tam’s face. She repelled backwards screaming, “That isn’t Tam… That isn’t Tam! Drea get away!” her voice was pricing to the ears, her facial expression was near hysterical on the frightened side. “Don’t you see it? Tamera… Oh my god Tamera!” Sara rolled to her face crying… Steve was up and at her side shooting a look over at Drea and Tam. “What the fuck!” Steve put his hands on the crying Sara‘s shoulder.. “Sara, Hey its okay… Tam is okay!”

A deep thunderclap with streaks of lighting can be seen over the roof of the mansion but nowhere else. A dark silhouette appeared on the top balcony over the main entrance of the building… Steve looked over to Drea… “Drea that is what I seen on the roof!” He looked back and the figure and it seemed to be getting closer to them, but as quick as the storm appeared it was gone… “What the fuck was that!” He shot his look over to Drea… “Please tell me you seen what I just saw!”

“Tamera!” Sara twisted up and shot a glare over toward Tam… Now seeing the woman looking at her instead of a decaying German face… Sara lowered her face into her hands while Tam seemed to snap out of the trance she was in… “What is going on…? Tam’s voice was back to normal, but she seemed confused… “Guys why are you looking at me funny! What is wrong with Sara, “Sara, baby I’m fine…” She looked over at Drea with a raised brow, “Drea?”

Steve shot a look back at Tam and then to Drea, “Tell me you guys seen that right!” He looked almost white himself. “That was the same thing I saw on the roof!” He informed the group, as everyone seemed to move into a close huddle around Drea…

"What just happened?" Asked the now becoming frightened Tam!

Okay, seriously Tamera was starting to get pissed. What was going on with her team? They were all acting like greenhorns, as if they believed every shadow and breaking twig to be some monster. Of all people they should know better. As a team they had over a dozen cracked cases where they were able to prove fiction with fact.

The memory wasn’t one that Drea could imagine in Tam’s family. She had meet her parents a few times and the family looked solid, supportive and most of all filled with love. So where was this vision of jars and belt beaten punishments from? “Tamara, it’s all in your head. It can’t hurt you.” Drea began to sooth but before she could continue Sara started to freak out.

She was screaming for Drea to get away from Tamera, with tears running down her face. Drea was looking from Sara to Tam trying to understand where this sudden outburst came from. “See what?” She asked her tone beginning to hint at her annoyance.

“Don’t look at me like that.” Drea pointed a stern look on her face as she looked up at Steve. She was still seated at Tam’s side trying to get to the bottom of all this nonsense.

At this point Drea didn’t know who needed more help, Sara and Tam but as it seemed that Steve had Sara, she stayed by Tam’s side. With a smile Drea gently tapped the bottom of the mug, urging her to lift it to her lips and drink. “Take a sip, it’ll make you feel better.”

“Steve is right Sara, Tam is fine.” It wasn’t a lie as Drea was sure she had hit her head when she fell but overall Tamera looked to be okay. Shaken up but okay. “We all need to-“

The storm had reached the manor and thunder clapped overhead and lightning lit the sky, shadowing the darkness and intensity of the storm. Drea was taking a moment to follow the streaks of light in the sky, to be awed by the swirls of colors within the bolt itself and the clouds it illuminated.

Steve broke her moment drawing her attention to the roof. Up on the balcony there seemed to be a darkened figure cast against the lightning. Drea shook her head watching the last member of her team lose it. “It was a shadow cast by any number of things up on the roof.” Drea pointed out in a monotone voice. “We haven’t scouted the area yet, we don’t know what’s up there. And it makes more sense that it was just a shadowy shape that was twisted by the different angles of more than one strikes of lightning. We’ve all seen it before.” She reminded Steve. “Hell for all we know it could have been Wil.” For it would account for their missing team member.

“Hey.” Drea spoke sharply at the glare from Sara directed at Tamera. “She didn’t do anything so looking at her like that is uncalled for.” Drea sighed and moved away from Tam to make another cup of hot cocoa. “We all need to take a deep breath and relax.” As an example Drea drew a deep breath in and slowly let it out as she stood to hand Sara her own mug of sweet chocolatey goodness.

“Logically speaking?” Drea asked happy to see Tam was back to herself. “Wil is probably up on the roof pouting. You may have hit your head when you tripped. Sara is reeling back from the Wil thing and the almost falling off the roof in a emotionally destructive way and Steve seems to have been swept up in the emotional fray and is jumping at shadows.” It sounded kind of harsh but it was what made the most sense to Drea. Some would have called it condescending but that wasn’t how she meant it. Drea was just the kind of person to cut to the chase with what was the most logical and they wait to be proven wrong. Because believing that the shadow up on the roof was more than that had yet to be proven and Drea had spent years of her life waiting to be proven wrong.

“Again, it was more likely that it was a shadow.” Drea argued with Steve trying to calm him with facts. “It was exciting to see it, a hope that there is more to our world as we know it and we could be the ones to prove it but I’m not going to be scared of something that hasn’t shown itself to be harmful.” Drea threw her hands up. “That’s silly. You might as well be scared of water for all the drownings it causes.” She smiled.

Drea sighed. “Tamera just relax. There isn’t any reason to be scared. It’s just be an overwhelming day, in a new place and we all need to get some rest. Start tomorrow with a fresh outlook.” Plus in the sunlight maybe the team would be able to see this place as the beauty that it was, the untouched gem just waiting to be cut and set. The treasure trove just waiting to be found. Drea hadn’t been lying when she had told Steve that the figure on the roof had excited her. It was perhaps the clearest form she had ever seen but still her mind could point out the flaw to it being some scary creature from beyond. And why was everyone so scared? Nothing had happened to evoke such fear in her team. Well, other than Sara almost falling from the roof but that didn’t seem to be what was bothering the team the most.

“Tam, Sara can you bring my things to the tent? I think I’ll spend the first night with you two.” Drea smiled thinking of at least two reasons sleeping with them tonight would be a good thing. One, it would comfort Tam and Sara and two, she could make sure that Wil kept away from Sara. “Steve, let’s go find Wil and make sure he’s alright and hasn’t gotten himself lost.” Drea sighed raising her arms above her head to stretch. “Yeah I think a good night’s rest will do us all a load of good.” She yawned.

Drea’s words brought Tam’s eyes up from her cup of hot chocolate, a sense of comfort filled her eyes as she nodded to Drea for a moment before looking over at Sara whom was also looking up and over to Drea. Tam’s smile formed over her face seeing the comfort in Sara’s eyes. She looked back to Drea whom was stretching and yawning. She took a moment to admire the curves that were showing with the stretching. “We will move your stuff over to the tent. I’ll have you set up and able to go to bed when you get back from finding William.

She wanted to ask if she really wanted to find that man, but he was a team member whom was good at his job, but what he has done to Sara has tarnished her willingness to work with him. She pushed that hatred for him back deep in her mind, for this place was a gold mine for Drea and them and she wasn’t going to let this feeling ruin it for Drea. She was going to be that tough second that Drea seemed to welcome when things got a little crazy and a little crazy was among them this evening. She took what happened to her this evening and turned it into a turning point of her return to that strong team member that Drea could count on. “Drea…” Tam gave her that look that I have everything under control. “Go find William. Sara and I will be okay.”

She stood up and moved over to Sara, Lowering her hand and pulling Sara up to her when the young girls’ small hand slid into hers. She wrapped both arms around Sara’s waist and held her close for a few moments, before cupping her chin. “Let’s go take care of those scrapes before we get Drea’s stuff into our tent.” She smiled seeing that sparkle returning to Sara’s eyes, she loved this girl for she was just so cuddly. She looked back over at Drea with an ensuring nod.

Sara walked with Tam toward the tent, but stopped when she came next to Drea. “Thank you …for everything. Especially the hot chocolate.” She didn’t want to back pedal over what just happened but just wanted to get the night over on a good note and that was where it was for her at least. She knew Drea would take care of William, which she was actually concerned about, in fact, she was worried about them all for everyone’s emotions and moods seemed to have changed to anger ever since arriving here. She even felt that cold anger toward William earlier but managed to keep the gentle nomenclature about her.

She reached out and grasped Drea’s forearm. “Please be careful. We would be lost if you got hurt walking around this place at night with a storm coming. Not to mention William is in a very tense mood and he strikes out easy when he is in that frame of mind.” She shook her head for she allowed herself to falter backward to the previous troubles. “Just be careful.” She reapplied the sentiment of her caring deeply for Drea. She gave her a squeeze before moving off with Tam.

“What she said!” Tam spoke over Sara’s shoulder while looking back to Drea; a loving look was upon her face before she pulled her gaze away and refocused upon walking with Sara close to her side. “So you’re a hot chocolate fiend too huh?” She spoke to Sara as they walked toward the tent. A small laughter echoed out from Sara as they entered into the tent.

Steve stood up and stretched and flexed stretching his muscles as if he was about to go ten rounds with Mike Tyson. “Drea… I’m sorry for the shit I have done this evening. It just seems like I have so much anger built up inside me that everything so small seems to be ten fold than what it should have been, like when I struck William, and my anger at him for what he has done to Sara seems like a bottomless pit and there is no end to my anger.” He tried to think it through for a moment… “I just don’t know … Anyway I will pull myself together; in fact I feel a little better that Tam and Sara seem to be back to norms.” He added before moving toward Drea. “I think William was heading off in this direction.” He pointed toward the way that the fire escape was… “Maybe that was William up on the Balcony.” Steve looked across the way toward it… “I don’t know that would be moving fast from the time he left us to get up there in a place we have never been in before. Even with studying the floor plans and knowing where to go would be pushing the time limit.” He attempted to eliminate a section of the search grid to where the balcony would be the far side boundary.

“I didn’t hear the clinking of the fire escape on this side maybe we should see if there is one on the far side of the building and maybe we can set a good search perimeter in finding him, but then there are the woods.” He pointed to the horizon, the woods was just ahead of them some four hundred yards away from the end of the structure. “Well, Shall we go find him?” He began to walk toward the structure when William walked back around the far side corner of the building. “Hey, You guys you have to see this!” William was carrying an old photo book of the place when it was open to the public… “There are even some pictures of men that just look to be German!” His voice seemed to carry the excitement of the Hall once more instead of the situation with Sara.
