Was anyone aware of the Kyoto Protocol signed in 1997?

Taken from the article located at http://www.discovery.com/news/briefs/20001114/ea_reu_warming.html

Slade slammed industrialized countries for complaining about the costs to their economies of reducing pollution, saying they failed to realize the cost to poorer countries of climate change.

"We will hear much in this conference about the difficulties and the compliance costs but we fear that not much will be said about the costs that we and other developing countries will bear as a result of their continued inaction," he said.

As well as a renewed commitment to cut greenhouse gases, AOSIS wants developed countries to promise funds to help its members cope with the effects of climate change they are already suffering, including coastal erosion, damage to freshwater supplies and environmental damage.

To paraphrase madam Laurel: Discuss?

All of this pollution stuff goes hand in hand. George Carlin has a valid point. He says that MAYBE man's purpose on this planet IS to make plastic. Mother earth couldn't do it herself-she created us-we got the job done. Haha

I don't really subscribe to the GREENHOUSE EFFECT propaganda much. I remember when I was a child in the mountains of VA the summers were incredibly mild, and the winters were INCREDIBLY harsh. We're talking 27 inch snowfalls and such. The propaganda then was that the sunlight couldn't reach earth's atmosphere due to the heavy pollution. In another 20 years, they will be saying something else.

Should we pay for it? Sure, as soon as those same underindustrialized nations pay us back just 1 STINKING percent of the money given or loaned to them over the years for FOOD AND MEDICINE. Instead of complaining, they should be worshipping us. Let them eat cake. Or CO (carbon monoxide).

CASH,,, the golden solution to every-fucking-thing real or imagined,,,

talk about a wet dream,,, cash repirations is a developing countries dream come true,,, no need to prove definative harm, and no need to repay the money

just fix the problems at the source and move the hell on

The kyoto Conference

Yes, I know about the conference. There were even talks about having a central fund (into which industrial nations contribute) that will be used to subsidise third world (developing) states. The commodity being oxygen: so country's like Germany consume massive amounts of the globes oxygen (and are taxed from the fund). Then struggling economies like Brasil who produce a shit load of oxygen from their forests will receive subsidy and aid from the fund.

I think that its a great idea. Oxygen belongs to all that share the globe and its an essential commodity - capable of being traded in like anything else - but where the proceeds of the trade are globally beneficial.

You wouldn't work for the IRS, would you? lol

"ACK...GASP! Honey! You forgot to pay the AIR BILL again!"

What I'm saying is that until someone offers me "valid" proof of the greenhouse effect happening, I ain't buying. We were told for years that the exact OPPOSITE was happening, that gasses were keeping OUT sunlight, now we are asked to buy that gasses are trapping the sunlight IN.

Proof, that's all I need.

And where in GA were you, Valdosta? I've never been there and you make it sound really unpleasant. The are I live in is pretty good. The real concern here is that the City of Atlanta is dumping waste into the Chattahoochie River and instead of working on a cleanup, they would rather pay 100,000$ or more A DAY in fines. IF they ever did decide to clean up, think of the amenities we could afford! Well you know we'll never get any of that money back!
