But successive governments have wrecked the economy so that there aren't any jobs. Unemployment in young Greeks is appallingly high.

One must also acknowledge that the existence of government deposit insurance enables (and continues to enable) reckless banking practice.


Most of the raison d'être for national central banks is to provide liquidity in the event of bank panics.

Libor manipulation was a long term hair trim on just about the entire world economy that uses loans. Sure no crash, but the banks involved should be out of the loan business and those involved should be penniless on the streets. No jail time. You can't jail or fine a bank enough, and the people benefiting just need to be deprived of that which they most desire.

U.S. Banks as well? Sure but let's not forget the others that profited! AIG, Stanley Morgan, Goldman Sachs..etc etc Welcome back to the roaring 20's!!
