It's probably always a bad idea to let the citizens see how the sausage is made. They get to see dirty hands, rat droppings and bugs being added to the mix along with the occasional severed finger.

Item 2, DACA Legalization has the ultra-right all in an uproar. Quite frankly if you're going to bestow on these people permanent "green card" status I find it difficult to imagine why you wouldn't provide a path to citizenship? Or to put it another why, how could you ethically avoid it? Because these people are special cases you can apply pretty rigorous requirements for them to meet before being allowed to take that last step. While the specifics of those requirements is not spelled out in the document, they are implied. Further as 'naturalized citizens' they would still be subject to revocation of that status and deportation for the commission of certain criminal acts. Citizenship is NOT final for the naturalized.
And lest we forget, these people didn't violate any law in their coming here. Up until their reaching the age of majority they were a victim of the true law breakers......their parents. Some use the argument that they tend to vote "democrat" as a reason for expulsion that argument could be extended to millions more.
Under the proposals they wouldn't be able to sponsor their mommies or daddies either. (Remember them, the original law breakers?) Nor their sisters, brothers, or their 4th cousin twice removed. If their extended family is more important to them than citizenship then off they go.
The expansion of the numbers to 1.8 million is a little troublesome. Troublesome in it's lack of any specifics. The reason given is "time-frame" adjustment. I can only guess, and it's only a guess' that this is going to encompass those in their teens that have been here for an extended period of time. On that issue the devil is going to be in the details of the proposed time window and other requirements.

I think you are confusing the dreamers with their fathers, who do tend to be involved in the skilled construction trades. But it does not surprise me that you paint all Mexican migrants with a broad brush. Most of the dreamers I know in my southwestern region have progressed to some form of higher education.
Regarding the single-celled scheme to turn the dreamers into a labor force to construct the Stable Genius's Holy Wall, dream on. That is about as feasible as getting the Mexican government to pay for that white elephant. Americans will get stuck with that bill.

Nobody said all DACA participants were in college. However, in my region of the Southwest, they certainly appear to be more motivated than the norm to enter higher education. Many of them enter the junior college system to train for jobs in such disciplines as health care, and a significant proportion transfer to universities. As a group, they generally have much more appreciation for higher education than typical Arizona residents of their age.
Regarding your cranky-old-man question of "who pays for that?", they pay their normal fees and invest the considerable effort it takes to complete their training, and we all subsequently benefit when they enter the workforce and make their skilled contribution to our society. That is why we set up the public education system.
Regarding the snide comment about "children", they are the sons and daughters of people who migrated here without proper documentation. It was not their choice to do so. When I was growing up, I went wherever my parents moved, and it would have never entered my mind to do otherwise. And yes, children do grow up and become adults-- no big news flash there.
Because this group does not "dream" about building exclusionary walls as a form of punishment for the legal sins of their parents.
