Government is a functioning element of the economy. It is not some kind of parasitic growth on the private sector. A civil service job is as productive and as contributory to society as a factory job.

Last time I went into a DMV, they didn’t seem efficient or productive at all. They certainly were not polite and in fact, they made it very clear they didn’t want to be troubled helping anyone. I wasted hours of my life trying to get a new car registration sorted out. And only because an over reaching government requires it in the first place.

Maybe schools are meeting the mark…a quick comparison to other countries show that is very far from true. High schools issue diplomas to increasingly illiterate kids which each new generation. Our public education system gets more money every year but is a complete joke in the eyes of the world.

Perhaps the Post Office is doing better. Well those dumbasses routinely deliver my mail to different neighbors and I often get neighbors mail as well. I buy and sell on ebay. On average, those fn clowns lose about 1 out of 20 packages. I am forced to buy their insurance whenever I ship with them. Only an incompetent government agency could dream up a retarded idea that I need to buy insurance from them to protect myself from their incompetence.

Maybe the IRS? I fudge the living shit out of my taxes every year and those dumb shits have never called me on it!

I could go on and on.

I worked in government for thirty years. It is absolutely corrupt and worthless. Our garage fleet charged us $300 per ceiling light bulb change because it was a three man job. We got zinged $400 for oil changes. And the list goes on. When I tried to point out the madness, I was told that the role of government is not to do something useful or helpful. Its primary mission was to provide jobs to people.

Whether or not competition actually breeds results can definitely be questioned. The issue here with vouchers is that will just take money out of already impoverished areas. The people MOST in public funding will see less and less funding in their schools making it even harder to break cycles of poverty. Its pretty hard to believe that's not the intended point. They probably aren't going to add tons and tons of busses. Both my parents worked, going to a school an hour out was not an option without the buses.

Its a good idea in a magical world that's not this one.

What the AAA does is not what the DMV does. A private business is not qualified, and could not be trusted, to license drivers.

It is a wise expenditure if it teaches tolerance of diversity, like the American version does. Iraq needs that more than anything! It enhances US foreign policy by helping to prevent even more civil wars there.
