Gotham's Regents (Closed)

Benjamin Kirby Tennyson had been to Gotham once before and it was on a very short list of places that frightened him. The criminals here were just special in a way that was difficult to explain to someone who'd never been there. How do you rationalize being frightened of a clown with a gun when you've actually learned the plural of apocalypse because you've prevented more than one?

It didn't help that as much as Batman seemed to have what other heroes occasionally refered to as a habit of collecting young heroes for his army he also didn't like outsiders in his city. After Ben had destroyed a large part of an abandoned circus when Zombozo and the Joker had formed an alliance Batman had made it clear that Ben should call next time.

That made it all the more interesting when he'd gotten a request to back up Batgirl. That wasn't the kind of request you turned down so Ben had dropped what he'd been doing and headed straight to Gotham.

She'd made it sound that just wrong level of urgent that had Ben confused. Like she wasn't going to die if took him an hour to drive there but she'd probably pretty banged up if it took him much longer. In his experience that was super hero for "get here yesterday I'm too proud to ask for help". Either way he'd taken the form of XLR8, a speedster type and followed the blip on the radar to a junkyard.

"Gun dealers." Ben muttered quickly. He still hadn't spotted Batgirl, at least not until she cried out a warning to the criminals. Most of them had plenty of time to get clear of the falling debris but one of them was paralyzed with fear, fortunately as XLR8 Ben was faster than a speeding bullet, if only just. The man was snatched out of danger and deposited next to one of his fleeing friends.

There was one more criminal, a big guy aproaching a vulnerable looking Batgirl. "She probably won't mind if I step in." Ben thought aloud and zipped across the gap between him and the assailant heading for Batgirl ending with a shoulder check that would have sent a linebacker flying. The man did move, he skidded forward a little more than a foot. "What?" Ben's eyes widened slightly and he was almost caught by a wild backhand. "Let's try speed." Ben started peppering the man with dozens of punches but they seemed to more amuse the giant with the vaguely Latin American accent more than hurt. "Hey, I keep hitting you and you ain't budgin." Ben commented.

"No nino. I do not." Bane replied finally catching Ben with a blow that sent him sliding back. Bane took a quick glance around to see if any more help was coming then charged.

"So, tell me." Ben reached down and picked up Batgirl before zipping just out of Bane's reach. "Tips, tricks, advice? Punching usually works a little better than this."

"Check." Ben peeked his head around the corner just in time to see Bane's fist drive straight through the pile sending a spray of debris flying that very nearly included Ben's head. "Okay, sure I'll handle this brute."

Bane chuckled and took several more swings at Ben. "You'll handle me nino. I think you must have me mistaken for someone else." The large man was still gloating even though Ben was casually avoiding his attacks at this point.

"Seriously question. How do you expect to beat what you can't hit?" Ben asked. Perhaps the universe was listening because it answered the query. There was a creak, then a thud, then a crash and then Ben knew. Bane hadn't been trying to hit him, he'd been herding him towards another one of those unstable piles and he was about to be buried alive.

He had two obvious choices, stay and be crushed or charge Bane. The Big man was blocking he only way out. The expression on his face was a smug declaration of victory. In the second Ben had to make his decision he chose a third way out dashing thi sway and that, dodging the falling trash and climbing until he was at it's peak and then he dove down with a metal pipe.

This time he had gravity at his back when he impacted Bane and this time the the big lug actually took notice. Ben kept swinging like he was back on the baseball field until Bane was reduced to one knee.

"That wasn't so hard." Ben mumbled reaching way back like a golf swing. . .

Ben swung like he was trying to get a hole in one on the moon. IF he'd been up against a normal human the blow probabyl would have killed them but Bane, Bane just slumped over slurring something angrily at Ben.

"Really?" Ben asked in exasperation. He had no clue what Bane had called him since his Spanish was pretty much limited to 'ci, more tacos' but he knew from the tone of voice that whatever Bane was saying was impolite. The real problem though was that the man was still semiconscious and Ben really didn't want to hit him again. "Just stay down." He took a step back far enough to glance at Batgirl but she seemed to have her part of the equation under control.

Ben took the time to examine Bane's get up while he waited. He'd been told to study all the known villains. Most of them weren't polite enough to stay in their own cities (or solar systems) but Ben had always been a bit of a slacker. His study of Gotham basically told him two things. Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot and clowns aren't funny. And the given his particular phobia Ben had never found clowns anything short of terrifying.

Just before Batgirl turned the corner the Omnitrix noisily powered down and a bright flash of green light left Ben back in his human state instead of blue skinned vaguely reptillian form he'd arrived in. The green face of the watch was now an angry red drawing a slight frown from Ben

Bane was starting to come around but either hadn't or couldn't rise back to threaten anybody just yet. "Well that was fun. You're a genuine freak." Ben muttered watching the man. He'd been strong, a lot stronger than any human Ben had fought. Nearly as strong as some of the aliens he'd met over the years actually.

"You get all of yours?" Ben asked noticing the Dark Damsel coming back into view. He barely managed to keep his eyes from moving over her. Well he didn't quite manage but he did keep from letting Bane out of his peripheral at the same time.

Ben's smile nearly split his face. Batman's interrogations were something of a legend in the superhero community. "Would I -" Ben cleared his throat. "Yes, I would like to help you question someone." He was still having a hard time supressing a grin as he followed her.

Ben glanced at the Omnitrix which was still a disappointing red hue. He was about to speak when it chirped and returned to green. He decided not to to complain about it right then. It had always been a bit temperamental, worse now after he'd attempted to hack it.

"I think I've got something." Ben said with a grin following behind her. Any other time he might have been noticing how tight her uniform fit around her toned body but Bat Interogation. That literally crowded every other thought including sex out of his mind.

As soon as she slapped the man Ben slapped the Omnitrix and shifted into Ghostfreak.

Ben hovered directly behind the Batgirl so he could see over her head, his one good eye glowing ominously. "Yes, answers." He echoed. This was all new to him, usually the people he fought were after him.

He was a bit shocked that a girl as small as Batgirl could catch him, he'd been about to dive over after the man when she stopped the man's decent and something else caught Ben's attention. Damn. She glanced back at him with a knowing glance. He wasn't sure if she could read his expression, he sure couldn't but some women could just feel it. Either way he was on the job and it was best to at least pretend he wasn't staring.

Ben was pleased that Ghostfreak didn't have quite human features. Otherwise the all to pleased grin (caused more by seeing the fear in the man's eyes than the shapely curve of Batgirl's backside) would have taken some of the gravity out of the situation. As it stood the skull like facade stretched into a grimace. "Yes, his soul would be delicious. Only evil doers. That was out deal, only criminalsssss." Not that he had to try much but Ben exaggerated the lisps on the 's' and leaned in a bit more reaching toward the man.

"If he doesn't tell you everything he knows I can just rip it from his soul." A complete and utter bluff but he was fairly certain the criminal didn't know that.

"I was doing no such thing." Ben mumbled reverting from Ghostfreak to his human form and stretching slightly. Not all his alien forms were quite anatomically identical to humans and making for some odd transitions when he regaind this or that. In this case it was the ability to blush. "I was enjoying watching you work." At least that wasn't a lie.

"Also I kinda didn't drive here, I wasn't sure from your message if you meant get here when you get here or get here yesterday. So I literally zipped over. My ride is probably still an hour out." At least if it didn't get pulled over. Ben pushed that idea aside. "Anyway I can't shift for a while."

"It's a true story!" Ben replied. And it was. . .mostly. Ben climbed onto the smallish bike behind Batgirl not entirely certain where to put his hands that wouldn't immediately earn him at the least a slap and possibly more. He had no illusions that a 'fair' fight with the Batgirl wouldn't go any better for him than it did for those thugs. So he wrapped his arms around her belly, her smooth taut belly.

"So what's the plan when we get there? Penguin is just a mob guy yeah?" Ben wished he'd done more research but Gotham was on a short list of 'no go' zones most of the time.

Ben was holding on plenty tight anyway. Sure he didn't quite mind nestling up against her firm rump but he very much didn't want to fall. Whether it was her abs or whatever fabric those costumes were made of Ben was fairly certain he wasn't going to hurt her much by squeezing down.

"Oh?" Ben listened. "Well I'm good at violence, I think I could offer some critiques to his art." Ben quipped. Inwardly he groaned a bit.

"A war doesn't sound nice. Why don't we just go in, smack him, break his toys again?" One of the major advantages for Ben was he'd mostly dealt with intergalactic types and mad scientists. The kinds of people who couldn't go to the courts to begin with.

Ben glanced down at the Omnitrix. The face was back to it's pleasant radioactive green. So strictly speaking no he didn't need a lift. But he certainly wanted one. "Good point." He took her hand. Besides he'd always wanted a grapnel ride.

It was exceedingly difficult not to sound like a six year old child on Christmas Day with all this cool Bat stuff he was up to.

Once they were on the roof he crept slowly over to one of the skylights and stared down. There were plenty of goons and gangsters but they all looked normal to him. Even if the hardware they were crating around was far from standard issue. "Wow, he doesn't mess around." Ben whispered. He had no clue which one the Penguin actually was. At least not until the man waddled into view.

Ben had to admit that he'd been expecting an actual penguin or. . .something. There was supposedly a man of clay and a crocodile in the sewers here. So the man in a tuxedo twirling an umbrella was a bit of a let down but if Batgirl thought this guy was important Ben wasn't going to underestimate him.

Ben felt his heart stop for a moment in his chest when she came up behind him. Which was a bit annoying, he already knew she was there so it shouldn't have been quite the shock that it was but she still surprised him. Still he kept in check and listened to her instructions.

"Sounds good." He whispered watching through the skylight. He really hadn't had a chance himself to look through the current batch of aliens to know what he'd gotten after his attempt to hack the master controls had gone sideways. All the sentient life in the Milky Way and he was once again limited to just ten of them. He would have let that thought distract him but his attention immediately went back to the room.

In the room below Penguin was waddling back into view. Of course he had no idea where Batgirl was. "Hey, he's coming, heading." Gah, team work wasn't really his strongest suit. . .
