I envision an alternate Gotham where Bruce Wayne begins fighting crime while still in his teens. He hasn't yet donned the mantle of Batman, and has just recently started his after-dark excursions. When terrified criminals ask him who he is, he just responds with, "I am the night," which gets mistaken as "the Knight," leading the media to label him, "the Dark Knight of Gotham."
