Gotham....and other comic book series.

Mila Kunis, of course. Also, Jenna Coleman, Gemma Arterton, Alexis Bledel, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Trachtenberg, Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Bilson, Eva Green, Emily Blunt, Lucy Griffiths, LIly Collins, Rachel Hurd-Wood, to name a few.

Emily Blunt. Definitely. She's got the right attitude.

The last one looks promising indeed. I’m not a huge Batman fan, so I’m not as upset about the casting of Ben Affleck as many have been, but neither am I keen on him. That vehicle looks like it might make up for much, though. One thing it doesn’t say is “drab”.

I agree with the choice of Affleck. He's a good actor, got the physique to make the character believable and a chin you could use for slicing bread. I am optimistic.

Emily Blunt as Death??? Surely you jest milady...

Death is one of the stylistically most recognisable characters of the comic, so they can't venture too far away from the original concept. If they do, they are wasting money on an expensive license without reaping the benefits of an established brand.

I don't know who should play her, but I think early twenties and B-cup is as high as you can go while still retaining Gaiman's vision....

LOL Great cartoon.

I stand by that, though -- I think she could do a great job and personally I never saw Death as a teenager. Goth, of course, but for age I suppose I always pictured her more in her mid-20s.

And I did say Mila Kunis first. ;)

I haven't read comics since the mid-90s, but when I was reading I never got the impression that Death was a teenager. I always thought of her as mid to late 20s.

Gaiman's original was vastly different from what went into print. His concept was based on the 60s singer Nico. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/52/NicoChelseaGirl.jpgBut it was comic artist Mike Dringenberg who suggested going in a different direction based on a model named Cinnamon Hadley.

Originally, writes Gaiman in The Sandman Companion, he imagined the character as looking like ‘60s singer Nico as she appeared on the cover of Chelsea Girl. But the comic’s artist, Mike Dringenberg, also a Salt Lake City resident at the time, had other ideas. Gaiman writes, “He sent me a drawing based on a woman he knew named Cinamon—the drawing that was later printed in Sandman 11—and I looked at it and had the immediate reaction of, ‘Wow. That’s really cool.’”

Hadley explains how she went from begging for spare change and living in the infamous ‘80s Salt Lake City flophouse called Kill Pigs to gracing the pages of a world-famous comic. “Mike Dringenberg was a good friend of mine,” says Hadley. “He told me that he wanted to use me for a model for a character in a comic book, but I didn’t think anything about it.” It wasn’t until years later, the conversation long forgotten, that she leafed through an issue at a friend’s apartment in Houston, Texas and found Dringenberg’s original drawing of her looking up from the pages and a personal thanks from the author for the use of her image.

Cinnamon: The High Cost of Being Death.

Emily Blunt would not be my first choice, either, but I have no idea where this notion originated that her body type should disqualify her from the part. She is 5'7", 115 lbs., 32B, and wears a size 2 dress. Emily Blunt. Any Hollywood make up artist could transform her into a page out of the comic in no time. Cinnamon-Death Emily

I would be remiss in my duties as an erotica author if I did not point out the twist that Montoya and the future Mrs Gordon were Lesbian lovers. :D

I could be wrong I guess. I don't know why I pegged her for a teen, except that I read an interview with Gaiman once where he mentioned that he wanted the contrast of having the anthropomorphization of the most powerful entity in the universe look and act as un-godly as possible. And a young girl of an alternate lifestyle was just the image he was looking for.

But he never actually said "teen"....

As far as Emily Blunt goes, I loved her in Edge Of Tomorrow where she proved that she can give even Sigourney Weaver a run for her money when it comes to sheer bad-assery...

... but to be blunt *snicker* I just can't see it. You are right that Hollywood can perform miracles, but why not pick an actress closer to the original? Unless they want the big name on the poster of course.

But please don't cast Tom Cruise as Dream.... that will make me sad. And Xenu probably won't like it either.

Tom Cruise(and obviously Ben Affleck) can get cast as anyone they want to be. So hope that neither is a Gaiman fan.

At least Affleck can look morose, which is how Dream spends a lot of his time.

Okay, Mila Kunis or Emma Stone for Death. How about Desire? Delight? Maybe Michelle Williams for the latter? You need someone kind of pixie-ish for that role.

At one point I was somewhat appalled to learn that the role of Stacker Pentecost from "Pacific Rim" had been offered to Cruise, but he couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts. Thank God, because Idris Elba is perfect in that role. In fact, I think having the "big name" of Cruise would have detracted a bit; the fact that all the major roles were played by lesser-known actors was a big plus.

In my fantasy world....porn actress Stoya would be death, she has that alt goth look.

And if she were death I would consider suicide to meet her:D

Hmm, I dunno. Stoya is undeniably attractive and an amazingly good actress as well. But she doesn't quite fit the profile either...

I think it's her face. She has this classical "socialite look" that causes her to appear out of place in anything but a cocktail dress. But yeah - she does have the body and the skin tone for it...
