Woman buys land on which are ruins of an old eclectic mansion. No town records on prior residents, only legends that it was abandoned. Most odd is the garden pool, which, though surrounded by overgrowth of briars and rusty posts, is immaculately clean. No one can account for its purity, as the grounds have not been tended for very long time.

The satyr fountain in the middle of the pool is a main draw to the new owner of the land. She hires a couple young fellows to clean up the grounds. They too are drawn to the mysterious figure in the fount, and all its polished stone glory.

Tell me what happens when one youth pulls up a post one day and finds a skull attached. And what does his bi partner feel when he washes his flesh in the water around the satyr? And what are the secrets in the satyr's eyes, which the woman soon learns?

There is a price to be paid for the freedom of the living waters which flow from the mouth of the satyr. What will be sacrificed to share it?

(yeh, I have ideas on what happens, and an ending. PM me if you've interest.)

Don't write for an audience, dead or other wise. Write for yourself. If others like it, so be it. If they don't fuck 'em. At least you will have enjoyed the creative process.

I understand this view, Carny, but I personally need some kind of emotional payback for putting it all down on "the page". The stories are already written in my head, or at least the broad strokes are complete. I find I get very little from actually writing it out, unless it can find an appreciative audience.

Dark Hollow, by Brian Keene. Re-titled for its new edition, it was originally called the Rutting Season.

Check it out.

hmm...woman sucking off the satyr statue... Well I always say "If I can imagine it, someone else has already done it" ...lol.

Who else is in a rut here? Maybe I should change the idea to Coney Island burns and who is still riding the steeplechase?

(Well, at least the paintings I do for my book covers are original. :) )
