There are too many GOP'ers saying silly shit. Thought we needed a thread for it.
If you want to start a Demo's being dumb, there are plenty of opportunities for that too.

Two simple sentences humiliate GOP senator who accused Afghan war veteran of being soft on terror

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) learned a valuable lesson about attacking his opponent on Twitter this week.

After an uprising and filibuster in the U.S. Senate demanding a vote on the bill that would restrict people on the FBI’s no-fly list from purchasing guns, Blunt grabbed a few random factoids to ramp up fears about Islamic terrorism. He accused his opponent, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, of refusing to acknowledge the right-wing catchphrase “radical Islamic terrorism.”

(Note: Kander volunteered to fight in Afghanistan)

Blunt received three draft deferments for the Vietnam War as a college student in the late 1960s, according to the Kansas City Star. However, Blunt’s office didn’t disclose the information until 2015.

“Anytime anybody ever asked me about that, I would have said I had student deferments and was then included in the first year of the lottery,” he said on a press call.

So another draft dodger saying how much he loves America, but he wouldn't fight for her. Just a hypocrite in an elephant suit.

They should hustle to confirming Merrick Garland, before Trump pulls the party down the drain.

I don't think Vietnam was a threat to the US. Those opposed to the Vietnam conflict had a point. Not wishing to fight in Vietnam did not make you a coward or disloyal. Even being generally opposed to a peacetime draft does not make you a coward or disloyal.

Being a rich daddy's boy and using a university/college student exemption that many less fortunate could not afford makes you a coward and disloyal.

Care to guess his reasons for dodging the draft? I found out that LBJ lied to us about Vietnam after I came back from there. It was a stupid war for stupid reasons, but in the mid 60's Slick Willy, Deadly Dick and lots of college boys ducked their duty. At least Mohamed Allie stood his ground on philosophical reasons.

Precisely. Those who though the war was wrong, who opposed it on moral or philosophical grounds should have stood up and said so. Many did. One of the most notable was Mohamed Ali.

On the other hand there were many who found slimy ways to slip through, making it appear they were in support of the war, but to much of a coward to do any actual fighting. College deferments, wearing dresses to induction, medical deferments, there were a lot of ways. Trump, Limbaugh, this joker, there are way to many to mention.

Then there was even a way you could be in the service and still have a 99.9% chance of not going to war: the National Guard. During the entire Vietnam conflict there were approximately 2.6 million men and women boots on the ground in the combat area. Out of all the active National Guard members during that period, 7800 served in the war. Consequently many young men who didn't want to risk fighting, but wanted to appear to be ready to go choose the Guard. That is if you could get in. For some that was easy, if your daddy had money, if he had power, you were assured a slot in the guard. After all the rosters were chosen by state level commanders. We had one president who was a prime example of it.

As a viet vet I am proud of those guys who gave up their country and moved to Canada in protest. I am proud of those people like Ali who stood up and said,"Hell no I'm not going."

But I also despise those slimy bastards that found a way to slide under the wire, so they could appear to support the war, as long as someone else was doing the fighting and dying. Fuck a bunch of belly crawling slimy assholes.
