House Republicans are taking a victory lap around Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi(D-Calif.) after GOP lawmakers passed a funding bill that would provide $5 billion for President Trump's proposed border wall.

“Nancy Pelosi learned two things today," Rep. Mark Walker(R-N.C.) said in a statement Thursday night. "First, it’s not 2009 anymore. Second, hubris is not the same as leadership – you don’t get to march into the Oval Office and dictate your demands without compromise."

Suddenly, it was Democrats who found themselves scrambling for votes, with several of their own members out of town. For example, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a potential 2020 contender, was in Iowa when the vote took place.

"There was a point today where 45 were gone," said Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), the likely incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

I hope you keep it for when he wins again in 2020...

After all of his broken promises, lies, and betrayal of our country, the only ones who would vote for him again are people like you.

Mexico is suppose to pay for the wall.
Broken lies should get you out of office.

The wall should have been built long ago, if five billion dollars will build it that is barely one day of federal expenditures.

What source do you have that says the wall can be built for only $5 billion?

The iron slats now proposed for the supposedly Mexico-underwritten project would be practical for some sections of the border, but no wall or fence makes a nickel's worth of sense for the entire length of the border, much of which is impossible terrain, which would destroy a big chunk of the environment, and wouldn't stop a damn thing. (Drugs are going to be too wide to fit between the slats are they?--just taking on one of Trump's cockamamy scare tactics.)

The money should go into support programs to help central Americans to live safely and prosperously where they are. It won't be long under Trump's regime before they will be just as well off anyway as Trump's victims in the United States are going to be before someone puts a stop to his nonsense.

So I'm just an observer to all this, but if they got the funding, why is the govt shut down?
Who will actually build the wall - I mean the construction workers? Won't it be migrant labourers like Trump uses?
You shouldn't have a wall anyway - you should have a 20-mile stretch of open water, like we have around the UK because.... that works?

Well they haven't got the funding, the bill passed the house but now has to go to the Senate, where it is expected to fail, setting the stage for a partial government shutdown on Friday at midnight.

Private contractors.

Yeah kinda works and it's essentially two large stretches of water, they have to traverse the Med first!

It's a $25 billion plus white elephant; KeithD suggests the only sustainable long term solution.

Woof!

Somewhere in all of this there was a meeting in Schumer's office. What the outcome was, I have no idea. I know the vote wasn't taken because there weren't enough members present to do anything substantial. All they could do was move the bill into debate. Schumer crowed about it, saying the R's only had 45 votes.

All I can say is that Karma is a bitch and she loves revenge. As Paleosi found out. We will have to wait and see about Schumer.

I wonder why no one brought up the concept of a quorum in the Senate vote?

Under the Constitution the Senate has to have 51 members present to constitute a quorum. The rule to pass a measure is that either 51% (or 60%, depending) must vote aye.

So, I wonder what the quorum was yesterday and if the 45 votes to move the bill into debate were in fact enough to pass it but they chose not to so everyone could get out of town.

And you lot want to extend the welfare state to a global scale???

Wow...the level of retardation of the left has made huge leaps.

What is with the lefties and wanting to fuck their own people over as hard a possible?

So, how well is that working? Are there immigrants wreaking havoc and raping British girls and committing other foul deeds?

Victory lap? For almost nothing to show after two years of one-party rule? Their one claim to fame, an extended market rally, is now DOA. And they act like appointing a judge from someone else’s list is a big deal. Pretty fucking lame overall. And now it’s done. Kaput. Bye bye.

This thread will never, ever die

'Cause it was built upon a lie

Some fuckhead started it, knowing fully what it was

And we'll bump it to laugh at him, like everybody does

This thread will never, ever die

'Cause it was - - -
