GOP Midterm Strategy makes a lie of Walkaway
GOP Midterm Strategy of Sexism and Racism 2018
The strategy is more of the same — only worse.
July 6, 2018
In a rambling, Trump-focused rant that only occasionally remembered that he was supposed to be there supporting a local candidate, Trump returned to the themes that served him so well in 2016: Racism, sexism, racism with sexism, and simple cruelty.
Trump also went after John McCain and, to the puzzlement of even the Trump-fans on hand, George H. W. Bush. And he lied about the military budget, election results, about economic numbers, before returning to two of his favorite targets for blowing his racist bullhorn—unpatriotic NFL players and the infestation of MS-13.
Trump didn’t restrict all his hate for women—he also went after the elderly and the ailing, making attacks on both John McCain for his support of health care and George H. W. Bush for his “thousand points of light” campaign theme. Trump declared repeatedly that he couldn’t understand what the “points of light” statement was about; a comment which seemed to momentarily silence the Montana Trumpists.***
On MS-13, Trump did what he’s done in every discussion of the gang—exaggerate their numbers, misstate their origins, and brag about accomplishments that didn’t happen. According to Trump, ICE has deported “thousands” of MS-13 members. But ICE puts the number at 405.

US Sen. Jon Tester gives Trump a tongue-in-cheek welcome to Montana by taking out a full-page ad in more than a dozen newspapers thanking him for signing 16 bills the Democrat sponsored or co-sponsored

Was Trump's trip to Montana an excuse, to get a Russian message from Montana’s GOP Senator Steve Daines, who spent July 4th in Moscow ? (not the Idaho town).
All the way to Russia, and not one Republican Senator attended the international soccer playoffs ?

Trump is doing a campaign rally in Montana. I'm going to tweet quotes and fact-checks. Please mute this thread if you don't want a lot of rally tweets.

huge list of Trump lies
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...-Trip-121-to-NJ-begins-in-Great-Falls-Montana
PBS covers the Montana rally- confirms that Trump lied
Trump introduced Matt Rosendale, who’s running against Tester (and ostensibly the reason Trump is here today. Rosendale was one of the early Bannon-endorsed candidates and speaks with a heavy Maryland accent that is arguably his biggest liability
Matt Rosendale immediately kisses Trump's arse, by asking the crowd- "Do we have an incredible president or what?"

The usual rally set up, private venue, hand-picked crowd to serve as back drop for speeches. No one behind them will spoil the film footage, with unexpected gestures or shouts. It is scripted. The people standing in front of the stage are hand picked. They will be on camera, to avoid filming those awkward moments, when Trump confuses the fuck out of the locals***"a comment which seemed to momentarily silence the Montana Trumpists."
Crowd gathers in Great Falls to protest Trump rally for Rosendale

GREAT FALLS — After a rally for Matt Rosendale featuring President Donald Trump began, nearly 100 people remained outside the Four Seasons Arena at Montana ExpoPark, some supporting Trump and Rosendale, and some in protest of the pair.
The rally began around 4 p.m., after which some people still in line were turned away and protesters and Trump supporters went head to head.

(Now, I understand there is another reason for Trump to deliberately leave Trump fans outside, waiting, though they will never get into the rally. Besides false advertising , about how popular his rallies are. It is to leave Trump defenders outside to fight with protesters. The police became involved.)

How these rallies work for Trump no matter how weird the content of his speeches: local media, especially TV but also newspapers, tends to cover them as "president comes to town, draws big crowd, criticizes local Democrat" stories regardless of what he says

The pace of Trump's dishonesty has increased significantly. After averaging 2.9 false claims per day in 2017, he is averaging 5.1 per day in 2018. He's now up to 1,929 false claims in 528 days

"They announced -- as I literally was getting off the plane, they announced..." The announcement was not made as Trump got off his plane for his nighttime rally. The opening ceremony was held more than seven hours before Trump landed

The newsfeed about the caged children came out, and it was horrific. They are not bathing the children, or looking after their medical needs. The people they are hiring have lost their doctors licenses. There are people with criminal charges that are caring for children. Trump wanted to distract from Scott Pruitt's scandals. A spot covering the rally had to be made, during newscasts, and that helped to push the real news off of the page. The fact checks are relentless now, and the bad news about what harm Trump has done, is out there.
