I'm seeing more and more commentary like this......seems the GOP is losing from both ends

People like me who are fucked off with Trump and the GOP over Ukraine and his disastrous trade wars, and

MAGA true believers who are pissed that the GOP in the House and Senate is doing virtually nothing......

These mid-terms are going to be one for the books.

You’re the only one who cares about our favorite Wee Crossdressing Ninja, Little Z…

People can be frustrated and still support the overarching movement. I wouldn’t read too much into midterms…the party in power almost always loses seats. I don’t see anything near the level of discontent like ‘94 and Republican Revolution. You’ll peel away some malcontents like yourself…one issue voters. The rest of us?

🙄

What were MAGAts expecting from a second trump administration & a republican controlled congress???

🤔

Decent, intelligent individuals (so NOT MAGAts) expected MOAR racism, fascism, misogyny, bigotry, ignorance, incompetence, corruption and MOAR TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH & CORPORATIONS -

JUST. LIKE. THE. FIRST. TIME.

🤬

Also:

There was no ACTUAL corruption / criminality involving the Democrats OR the Democratic Party, so there’s a damn good reason why the “FBI and DOJ” have “done nothing” along those lines.

Hope that ^ helps.

👍

We. Told. Them. So.

What the MAGA want is to have the conditions back that prevailed in America from WWII to the mid-1970s -- when a white man, at least, who had only a high-school education could earn a middle-class income. But those high-wage low-skill jobs are gone. Automation and offshoring killed them off. Tariffs won't bring them back.

The problem is that the things the MAGA want are impossible.
Pshaw, delusion is a core tenet of the MAGA mindset.

Did you see Trump vehemently push back yesterday when an interviewer suggested foreign travel to the United States might hit an all-time low?

Oh no, Trump countered, "we're actually gonna see the biggest increase in people visiting the US from abroad ever seen! The dollar makes us a VERY attractive place to vacation, nothing but good times ahead."

They want a return to "Leave It To Beaver" suburbia that never existed in the first place: June Cleaver vacuuming the family home wearing her pearls.

I think they'd settle for a return of "Separate But Equal". Ishmael used to say "we need a return to a time when a black man took a white man's orders, not his wallet".

I suspect Ishmael cried in the movie theater during the movie "Hidden Numbers" when an irate Kevin Costner tore down all the signs that said "colored restrooms".

Trivia: Congress was initially against desegregating restrooms at the Pentagon in the early 1960s. At a ratio of 3 white facilities to every one colored facility, this meant that there was now 25% excess restroom capacity at the complex.

...and who knew that colored folks could hold their bladders three times longer than white folks?

Is every single one of the 77,302,580 who voted for Trump part of MAGA? Or is MAGA a subset of Trump voters who would support him no matter what? Posting a single tweet doesn’t shed any light on the question you’ve posed. I think you’re just venting like most others here on the Trump Board.

Tourism is forecasted to take a $65-$100 billion hit in 2025 from the drop off in foreign tourists. Just finished reading a few articles on this one and it looks grim, especially for towns relying heavily on Canadian tourists. Lots of horror stories in the Aussie press too, I'm not sure if that is discouraging tourism from Oz and NZ but I suspect it might.

That's what I'm interested in. I'm seeing all sorts of conflicting opinions, views and polls. I'm not sure that anyone actually really knows or has a good handle on it.

Since Trump isn’t expected to be on the ballot again, it doesn’t matter much. You can look at approval ratings and right direction/wrong direction polls but you’d need cross tabs to see if or to what extent his base is shifting. The midterms could provide some clue, but even that won’t tell much.

A country's currency only attracts tourists when its value is low compared to other countries'. Is that what Trump is aiming at?

*Hell no.* in sarcasm font. *Got nothing to do with low currency values.

Our airfares are lower, the lowerest in all the world, every world in fact.

Tourists love America! Cause we treat them with respect and kindness. We have the bestest of everything, things they never ever get to see at home: best horses, best skiing, best theaters, bestest foods, mountains, fresh air, all that except where the drill baby drill areas are.

Our government gives them free stuff, accommodates many when they don't register for hotels, even. Some get free rides out of the country because we like them so much!

Currency value has no bearing on tourism in MAGA land. It's all about friendship!

Regardless of the idea it is only impossible for those who lack the will.

Flying was once impossible according to sensible people.
The same was said of going to the moon.
Or desktop computers.
Video phones were science fiction nonsense not so many years ago.

It's all a matter of will.

The Communists might have said that about their version of socialism -- they could make it produce prosperity if they just had the will. Some things are not possible. The restoration of high-wage low-skill jobs is probably not possible economically.

High-wage and low-skill jobs are possible depending upon the industry and whether or not the profits of the industry are enough to sustain high wages.

Auto manufacturing was such an industry until the unions made it financially sensible to produce automobiles in other countries like Mexico and Canada.

High-risk jobs are almost always high wage regardless of the skill involved.

Working for a drug cartel, for instance, has a generally high compensation package. But there's the risk of prison or death involved.

They also said it would be impossible to stop the massive influx of people crossing the border without major legislation. The gusher has been reduced to a trickle. It was just a matter of will.

There will always be pissed off fringes. The votes that win elections are in the middle.

Speaking of "the middle", Lady Lindsay Graham off-handedly told the Wall Street Journal this morning that Republicans and Democrats have done the impossible, crafted a purportedly "veto proof" bill in the Senate (82 sponsors!) to impose real sanctions on Russian oil sales....they haven't brought it to a floor vote because Republicans want to be seen as "responding to Trump's request for sanctions".

As if the TACO-in-chief was capable of making a decision that sticks.....

So will those Canadian snowbirds and tourists to Myrtle Beach and Florida to shore up all those vacancies because Canadian snowbirds and tourists are spending their money elsewhere.

What you fail to see is, people like you are outnumbered and becoming more so by the day. The people who actually wanted Trump to destroy the government are still very, very happy with him and likely always will be. But most people did not want that.

There will always be pissed off fringes. The votes that win elections are in the middle.
Not so. People always say that, but candidates who run in the mushy middle usually lose.
Why? At least one reason is that a whole lot of people identify as "moderate" when they're not really. Either they're conservative but don't want to be lumped in with the likes of Trump, or they're liberal but shy away from that label because the right has done such a good job of vilifying it. That's also why you see so much whining about how "we need a moderate party!" when in fact we already have one: the Democrats.
