The bill says that any research done using federal funds (which is the majority of research done in the United States) must have its results and finding approved by the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology of the House of Representatives. If the findings are not agreed to, the research is taken from the researchers and disposed of by Congress as it sees fit.

Which conservative here will defend this bill?

Galileo called.

I couldn't understand what he said but he sounded really pissed-off.

I'm surprised, since most conservatives believe science is, well, science fiction.

When politics enter science it ruins the entire process. There should be NO outside interference!

Luckily the Islamic Militia Scientists will take up the slack.

. . . pays for the research . . . sometimes . . .

I'm talking about having total oversight, such as APPROVING what's found and what's published. Having spent time in research labs, I know what will happen when a politician doesn't like what's being found.

Maybe they'll start denying non-profit status to "creation" museums.

Here's the draft of the bill.
He's also the dickhead working on the SOPA stuff too. But don't worry he's already violated copyright.

If it's the one linked by Dan the Dimwit here....

I'll back it...nothing in there is bad... merely holding those receiving public funds for their research responsible.

Even a small grant of say 25,000 bucks...I don't think it's too much to ask that the researchers tell us (the public) wtf it is they are using public funds for to research, how they are conducting their research and why.

If it helps cut spending on dumb shit like 150k to find out which ketchup is the best and putting that money towards something useful...like a kids tuition or research on something more pressing, I think it would be a good thing actually.

But you and dan will probably disagree and tell me the only way to be productive and progressive is to blow as much money on as much bullshit as possible.

Aw come on Merc .... don't be naive; You know, not only that many will support the bill and it might even pass the House; the Senate too for what I know but I did read the bill and it's more than a little confusing. A form of jingoism is rampant in the land.
Regards

I'm not a conservative, but it sounds like a good idea to me.

What's your objection to it, Merc?

I'm not a conservative.
