Good plot. Awful writing. What do you do next?

That's not really good for you.

there are obviously lots of awful stories. ...So. What do most of you do next?

If I read anything here, it's generally because someone commented favorably on one of my stories and I want to see what else they like. I'll go to their favorites and poke around.

It's generally crap, which reflects poorly on their taste, which in turn reflects poorly on my stories, so I give up and find something non-internettish to do.

So. What do most of you do next? Read it? Toss it? Skim it? Click to the last page and hope everyone dies?

A lot of the fantasy and sci-fi series are good to the point that sex scenes feel like an unwanted interruption of the real story, but I don't hold that against people posting things on an erotic fiction website. I skim these sections and keep reading.

No disrespect intended, but some of the writing here is awfully bad... And it should be, many/most of the writers here are beginners. The first stuff I wrote was all slop, as is some of what I write now. That's okay.

My question was not intended to be disrespectful. More of a...hey, what do you people do when you like the idea, but not the execution.

Pretty simple. I'd be looking for X and move on.

If it's not well written, I'm not interested. There are a number of stories I've seen here and on SOL lately that sounded intriguing, but I generally won't stick around past a paragraph or two unless the writing engages me. Clunky descriptions, awkward phrasing, out and out inability to convey a concept in plain English; all red flags.

And into the trash it goes.

Some well-regarded authors here emit writing that isn't really bad but merely... tedious. Plonky. This and that, then this again, and more that, yada yada. Maybe a stroke-worthy story line but the writing has zero grace, no music to it, nothing captivating. Like bad "hi, let's fuck" pr0n, little more than sexual traffic report with maybe cartoon emotions. Feh.
