I just got my first media request for a copy of my book today. Somebody in the media wants to hear from me! LOL. It's a small community paper, the Spotlight Arts and Entertainment newspaper, from Indianapolis. Hopefully I'll get a good review.
But the news got better.
As I was replying to the notification email from the publisher about The Spotlight, the marketing manager from the publisher called me. She said that she loves my book and that her daughter, who is a senior in high school, took the book to school with her. The next day a bunch of the kids bought my book. Now I am a cult hero at their high school. LOL. I thought that was great that she called to tell me how much she enjoyed my book. But even that wasn't all. She had official news as well.
My book is on the way to several Hollywood agents right now who are interested in trying to get it optioned for a movie. They requested a few titles from 1stBooks, based on a synopsis, and mine was one of six they were interested in. The manager told them that all the books were good and would make great movies, but that my book, Mr. Undesirable, was the best. It would translate right into a film easily. Quite a few 1stBooks authors have had their books optioned for movies. Two recent ones that come to mind are Proof of Life with Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan, and Legally Blonde with Reese Witherspoon. There are more. I understand that being optioned doesn't necessarily mean it will get made into a movie, but it's a start. And she seems to think that it will not only sell, but sell fast. I'm hoping. I am stoked!
We talked on the phone for about a half an hour and she just raved about my book and my writing. I never expected that from the publisher. I wasn't even sure they really liked it. LOL. I was told that it is a very popular book among the office staff. She seems to think that the next few months will mean big sales for me, but that my book will sell even better in two years as the word of mouth rolls on. This is so cool, having some people with clout behind me instead of against me for a change. LOL.
