Up until Friday, little had changed other than my loss of balance spells were more frequent and I'd actually started falling over. My doctor spent an inordinate amount of time with me Friday morning - possibly a reflex action since he's now fully aware I'll taking legal action against the consultant - and persuaded me to double the anti-depressant and anti-inflammatory medication doses. It appears to be working, for the first time in more than a year I'm pain free, not stumbling and actually capable of stringing thoughts together. I'm even remembering phone numbers that had 'got lost'. On the down side, my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are high, probably due to lack of exercise. They will be monitored over the next six weeks, along with me agreeing to reasonable exercise, but they are medication manageable if exercise doesn't bring them down.

I feel great, whilst simultaneously recognising the medication is only masking the underlying condition.

Thanks Rob. It has been quite a strain, not least for the family. It's great to see them smiling again.

Great news. Sometimes doctors give me a giant pain in the ass because of their inattention. Glad it's finally working for you. :)

Will, that's wonderful! Grand news to hear. Warmest wishes for your continued happiness.

I'm going to make the most of it while it lasts, starting with missy's wedding in two weeks time.

Fantastic news Neon!

I am glad you are finally getting some where with all these drs you have had to deal with.

A tidbit of info, my dad who has the same balance issues I have went to my neurologyst a week ago Monday, she gave him an MRI and read it within an hour of his appointment. To his and my mom's surprise, the 'strokes' he has been having are NOT strokes at all! Its this thing that we both have that is causing the slured speach and everything else that would make everyone think he has had a stroke!
Next step is genetic testing so they can compare our DNA strans to see what gene we both carry that is causing this frigging problem.

Congrats Neon, you better be up dancing at Missy's wedding to celebrate!

Thank you for your kind thoughts.

I'm not sure how I feel about neurologists. It seems in some ways an imprecise science. Unless something is obvious, tumour or clear damage, it seems they can only measure effect/response by interferring with neural pathways chemically or electrically. This doesn't necessarily tell them cause, it is just a measure of change. With my own situation, it is absolutely clear the large doses of anti-inflammatory drugs are reducing either inflamed nerves or inflamed tissue compressing the nerves and since my last blood test showed the neuroborelliosis were still active, I'm reasonably sure it is the nerves that are inflamed. I'm seeing one of the UK's leading neuroligists next week, he's an expert in Parkinsons Disease, I think my first question will be to ask him to explain his expertise in Lyme Disease.

Have you tried anti-inflammatory medication, you need something like Naproxyn/Naprosyn, it think it is available over the counter in the US as Aleve. One word of warning re your dad, the drug increases the risk of cadiac arrest particularly in patients taking medication to reduce blood pressure.

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better. Hope it continues and you're able to enjoy the upcoming wedding to its fullest. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
