Police fatally shoot Bronze Star recipient after he shot home intruder

An Army veteran who fired on an intruder in his Colorado home was fatally shot by a police officer responding to the scene, authorities said.

The Aurora Police Department said officers arrived to a "very chaotic and violent" scene early Monday around 1:30 a.m. as they were responding to multiple 911 calls about a disturbance in the area of North Iola Street and East Montview Boulevard.

In a post on the department's website, Police Chief Nick Metz said the dispatch center also had gotten a 911 call from a woman inside a home on East Montview Boulevard that a man "was breaking into her home."

When officers arrived, Metz said, they heard gunshots being fired inside the home and encountered an armed man.

"An officer discharged his firearm striking the armed male, who was transported to the hospital," Metz said. "Inside, officers found an injured juvenile and the deceased adult male intruder on the bathroom floor."

so sad :(

If he had a gun in each hand, perhaps he could have defended himself better against the police.

It is hard. Which is why some aren’t so good at it. Knee jerk reaction to defend all cops, all firemen, and all servicemen is lazy.

I notice you say nothing about the knee-jerk reaction to blame all cops.

I guess we know which camp you are in.

It's not "Independent."

How can this be? ButterflyMcQueef here has long lectured us that homeowner with guns are teh solutions to teh world's problems?

Did the guy who got shot not own enough guns?

I don’t know anyone who blames all cops. But quite a few who defend them all.

It isn't easy being a cop.

It isn't easy being an EMT either. But when people die because of your mistakes, you have to find a new job.

These American cops are too trigger happy. There is just too much leeway for cops in this country. This is maddening!

Very.
I suspect many armed people who call the cops on an intruder fail to give dispatch an accurate description of themselves.

However, there's this
"Mr. Black walks out of the bathroom to see other individuals who had also come in the home. Black's wife had called the police and ran outside. She specifically told the police what her husband was wearing and there was a naked man attacking her grandson. Mr. Black walks out and is shot by police."

So it sounds like the officer really screwed the pooch.

I also wonder if they identified themselves so Black could lay down his weapon before walking out to them. The article doesn't say.

Yea, it is.

When good guys accidentally shoot other good guys, especially another brother in arms....that's called friendly fire.

You should read it again with comprehension this time.
