Okay, for Christmas "Santa" got my kidlets their first fish tank starter kit. Apartment rules state no feather or fur-bearing animals, so I think this passes.
It comes with a tank (forgive me, I don't recall the gallon size) that is about 2 feet wide, 1 foot long, and 1 1/2 foot tall.. (i'm bad with measurements, but you get the picture). It came with the light and filtration system, and the drops and food.. I got a $5 coupon towards fish and I still need to get gravel and plants. They told me to run the tanks for about 24 hrs w/ no fish.. and then put some goldfish in it for a bit longer to build up a bacteria level.
My question is, what type of fish is good for being pretty but lasting a long time?? I don't want saltwater fish, and I don't want just goldfish. I want some that will 'play well with others' if mixed with other types.
What do y'all recommend?
