I don't know if this counts as erotica but I just finished reading The Motion of Light In Water by Samuel R. Delany. I think you'd like him,
Samuelx. He's a bisexual black man narrating his life, adventures and many loves.

Yes, Samuel R. Delany...

...is one of my heroes. To me his work travels way beyond erotica to explore the very core of who we are as sexual beings... lesbian source of same - Jeanette Winterson - am finally reading her "Written on the Body"

Painted Moon: Karin Kallmaker (lesbian novel)
And if you want something more philosophical: Eros the bittersweet: Anne Carsons.

Tipping The Velvet by Sarah Waters  its a lesbian novel set in Victorian times, it's not trash, it's highbrow and well written :)

no, but I will check her out, thanks! :) I'm always looking for a good bedtime read ;) hehe

nice thread. i'd suggest something, but i've been burned too many times buying erotica. that one yearly lesbian anthology thingy(the exact name of which i forget at the moment) has been good to me. a friend let's me borrow them from her and so far they've been good/ she also let me borrow a fairly decent bdsm novel the marketplace that i enjoyed. that's about all i have unless you count ann bannon.

yeah, i like lesbian stuff, damnit. sue me. good gay stuff is hard to find and embarrassing to buy.

A good gay book is 'As Meat loves Salt' by Maria McCann, it's about the English Civil War, and about half way thru the main character realises he is gay...not such a good idea in puritan England! It's quite surprising when the character comes out...I didn't expect it!

good sex? or is it all flowerly and sweet? i hate that in gay fiction. that should tell you something about my personality.

alo, good descriptions of anal sex = hooray!

it's not sweet sex at all, its quite violent at times. the main character is a psycho.

did you see the tv version?

I loved Tipping the Velvet - was actually introduced to the novel through a BBC television version... (very, very seductive) thanks - I'd forgotten about that one.

Re: Tipping the Velvet

Hey killallhippies,

They showed it in the U.S. on BBC America before the channel became the "all changing rooms/old comedies/ancient mysteries all the time network" a couple of years ago. Since we get shows here a couple of years after they air in the UK (when we get them at all - BBC America used to be almost the only TV I watched, now it's HBO originals), and they also play Channel 4 productions on BBC America, can't tell you the exact UK broadcast details. It has a production year of 2002 and you can get it on Amazon.com and on the BBC America web site. Starred Rachael Stirling and Keeley Hawes and was very, very hot...

For fun, and for an insight into what it was like being lesbian in the 50's and early 50's, try Anne Bannon's books.

She wrote "pulp" literature, but head and shoulders above the usual trash. Savvy and erotic -- both physically and emotionally.

I just ordered three of her novels online - thanks. I am fascinated, esp because i have a thing for older women.... Would love to have some insight into what lesbian life was like back then.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to your signature - now Adrienne Rich is erotic.

And the old pulp fiction novels are wonderful! Have you ever seen the film about that period, "Forbidden Love?"

The High Cost Of Living is the best lesbian novel ever written.
