When I was sitting on the patio this morning sweating the cats started congregating in one corner of the patio and looking out the screen at something. My wife got curious and went over to look. The next thing I knew she was calling me over and telling me there was a turtle out there. Now I got curious and went over to check.

Sure enough there certainly was a turtle out there in the corner created by the steps and the wall of the trailer. It was moving but not well. I went out and checked it out. When I got closer I could see it was a water turtle of some kind and it was dry. It was also hot. (Hell it was hot out. We reached 89°F by 1030 this morning.) I took a couple of pictures of it as I thought about what to do with it and where it could have come from. There are no ponds close by.

I grabbed a recycle bin and working carefully picked up the turtle and placed it inside. I went around back and grabbed a bucket of water from the water barrel. (Thankfully it was still in the shade.) I didn't want to use the water from the hose as that has Chlorine and other chemicals in it. You could almost hear the turtle sigh as I poured the water into the bin.

We loaded the bin with the turtle inside it into the car and headed down the street to a large pond where I let it go. I put the bin down and slowly tipped it over. Slowly so the turtle was rolled and coule readjust it's attitude in the bin. When the bin was on it's side the turtle slowly eased it's head out and looked around. When it saw the pond it took off making a bee line for the water and weeds.

It was only after I got home that I logged on and tried to find out what kind of turtle it was. It turned out to be a Florida Softshell. This one, from the description online seems to have been a female because of it's coloring and size. (A bit over 12 inches long.)
