Labrador.

Yep, another canoe trip. Two solid weeks in the empty. Mosquitoes! Wolves! Northern lights!

I leave at oh-dark-thirty on Saturday morning, the 11th. The bridge at Québec PQ, then the ferry at Tadoussac, and on through Baie-Comeau, Manic Cinq, Lab City, and finally Esker on the Menihek Lakes. We shall do some paddling on the McPhadyen River and thereabouts.

Caribou! Solitude! Campfires!

Ahh. Makes me grin just thinkin about it. I'll let you all in on how it goes. Or rather, how it went. If you follow me. I'll have my camera along, and it may even survive the trip and give us pictures.

I would love to go on one of these trips with you, just once.

I'd make the frybread....;)

Enjoy Cant.

Labrador's a starkly beautiful place.
Auroras visible on about 60% of nights, it says here. We go up on the dark of the moon, give or take. And we ought by rights to meet no one. It's supposed to be more sparsely populated than even Antarctica.

If it's quiet enough you can hear the aurora. I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

even with me along? :(

Poor choice of words, that.

Not that I'd be miserable.

But that I'd be miserable AT camping.

(Not possessing of the woodland skills.)

From your AV I thought you knew how to trap a beaver.

He, he.

You wouldn't believe the visual image I just got from that .... it was like soooo fuckin sexy.

And then I imagined you flyin around the ceiling fan from your disco bondage headgear and RFLMAO.

Even my butt hurts, but thats prolly psychosomatic. Kiss, kiss.

Ooooops, and off-topic .....

We are waiting for the pictures from the canoe trip cantdog.

Have fun!!!

Kisses back.

No headgear right now - it is waiting for me in the headboard of our bed.

Oh be quiet.

The last Canoe Trip I took was in the Everglades.

It was interesting and fun, yet it was hot, humid and the Skeeters were brutal. (Picture Squadrons of them, roughly the size of the old P-51 attacking.) Our deoderant, Body Wash, Aftershave and Perfume was something called Deet.

We still had a blast.

Have fun.

So far, we have avoided the Ramen noodles on these trips, but you never know; it's Sherrie's turn to arrange for the food. She tends toward homemade stews (from fresh ingredients at first and cans later), bacon in the morning, and plenty of snack stuff using those pre-made flour tortillas, which seem to keep better than any other bread. We make biscuits, we make fry bread, we do up pies in the Dutch oven. This trip, there should be Northern Pike-- and Brook Trout of a size that you steak them up-- to supplement the food boxes. And black flies. And mosquitoes. And many other more interesting beasts.

This is not a Challenge-the-Wilderness-and-become-Tough sort of group. We have three canoes, each capable of hauling a thousand pounds of load. We can be comfortable, and that is our constant goal. The wild is home, and we relax and dig it.

I am currently fantasizing that my camera doesn't take water damage. If not, I shall post photos and write up a little thing on it, as always.

Thanks for the goodwill and the friendly sendoff! You'll be in my thoughts, many of you.
