Gold stars next to stories?

Hi, I noticed next to my story there is a gold star and if you take your mouse and hover over the gold star, it will show a number in a little box. What does that number mean? Any help about this is appreciated. Thanks, Glorious1Goddess

If you're talking about where its listed in your category hub that is how many vote your story has gotten.

But your control panel tells you that and it is up to the minute. The gold stars on the story page are somewhat behind.
