Going to Romance Category

Got a "2 Bomb" on my story "Dark Cloud" which dropped it out of the Hot rating. It will go off New Stories soon, and once they go into the category archives, reads and votes to make up the ground are much slower. There is no way that story deserves a 2, and the previous 70 voters agreed.

I've had enough. This voting system requires you drop all writing except hot sex scenes for the "Stroke Crowd", and that's not what I signed up for. Will try Romance Category to see how that goes. "Dark Cloud" might have fit better there anyway.

Any thoughts on this?

The voting system is often debated. It generates lots of complaints. It is faulty, but it's what we got. There are other sites where you could post your stories, but I've yet to find one that has the same volume of readership as Literotica.

I feel your pain. :rose: Two bombs suck. :(

Personally, I think all voters should be required to sign in before voting, and votes should be recorded by username.

But that's just my .02 cents.

It's a pain in the ass. Like all voting systems.

Shrugs. Haven't heard of anything that would work better though.

Ignore the two bomb and take the good votes. Who gives a shit what the trolls think?

But I'm still sorry your story got bombed.

I've heard of things that will work better. We've had a lot of discussion about this stuff, and once in a while there are some really good damn ideas, ones which would make the voting work a lot better. Just talk. Nothing changes.

Finding the right category for a story will often find it the readership it needs. You can re-submit the thing in another category. Give it a new lease on life. It may be that your own choice of category was what doomed it to a worse rating than it deserved.

Possibly. But to get an H pactically no one can be unenthusiatic who has ever read it. How realistic is that?

I'm inclined to feel the same way but in the opposite direction. Mostly, I write stroke or smut, with just enough story to tell how the characters come to be getting it on, and I get bombed too. I sometimes refer to literature professors who contend that all stories have to be structured in a certain way, and castigate or bomb all those that aren't.

Post everywhere you can...

It takes the pressure of the varying voting irregularities... plus the readerships are very different.

Sincerely

Thanks guys (and gals).

I have a workable solution on voting if we could get Literotica to do it. To wit: If after a reasonable number of votes (say 20), a vote comes in that is 2 or more below the average vote for that story, it is simply thrown out and not counted. They could program that in the proverbial "New York minute" and it would solve the problem. It still gives voters the option to vote "3" on a story with an average of 4.5, but avoids the extremes usually motivated by some little detail of the story they took offense at.

I think every author on Lit is fed up with the "Trolls".

How does one go about changing a category? I have one that I think should be re-categorized based on the feedback I've received, but I'm not sure how to resubmit.

LJ - just resubmit the story with "EDITED" after the title, and a note in the notes field to change the category.

Synthia - the voters in Romance are, as a group, VERY kind with their votes. If all you are concerned about is keeping the H, then go right ahead, but I don't think that is an accurate reflection of a writer's skill, to be honest. That little red H is certainly nice, but isn't the end all-be all of writing.

What Cloudy said. Still, the H will get your foot in the door. You build a readeship faster with it than without it.

This is what I said in another thread....
and I think that the authors should be able to see who voted what for the stories... I think it keeps some of the 2 jerk offs alittle more honest.... believe Me I have been on the receiving end recently.
