I'm having a bad day.

My computer seems to know this and so is taunting me mercilessly by refusing to perform the simplest tasks like, I don't know, connecting to the internet or even shutting down.

I figured a rant thread was in order. It's that or throw the fucking piece of shit through the nearest window. I should add I've also been drinking so with my luck I'd miss the window entirely and fuck up the paint job I worked so damned hard on in my bedroom. Definitely need to find a better outlet for my frustration.

KEEP THIS UP YOU MOTHERFUCKING PIECE OF SHIT AND I'LL BASH YOU TO BITS WITH MY BARE HANDS! http://addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/pc/a037.gif

That felt a little better.

Anyone else need a rant? Thread's all yours.

:rose:

Maybe it's having a bad day too. Maybe it just needs a little love. I whisper sweet nothings to mine when it freezes..."It's ok, sweets. I know you've been working really hard lately. We'll just ctrl-alt-del and everything will be all better."

We tried ctrl-alt-del ing....it ignored my efforts at sweet talk.... Finally I took the battery out. That got its attention. ;)

I spent three days rebuilding my home computer from scratch. Computers suck...

My personal phrase of choice is a singsong "I know where your off-switch is." It usually behaves after that.

My next resort is of course to profanity of all kinds.

I know exactly how you feel. After 6 months of not being on the internet, I finally get it back, and within an hour it contracted a virus. Had to bring it to the father the next day and have him wipe out the entire thing. Good thing it's healthy now.

Hopefully your computer feels better soon.

I prefer Zaphod's line about reprogramming its main data banks with a large axe. That tends to get its attention.

Threaten it with a night outside with the bees.

If that doesn't get its attention, there's always the mysterious hole-digger. :catroar:

I tried it all...whispering sweet nothings, threatening it's life force...then it just decided to take it's own life.

My sweet little PC's BIOS decided to die 2 nights ago...so I am left to deal with the crappy computers at work until my husband can find a suitable replacement.

With his track record of shopping, I should have a replacement by 2008. :(

When I take mine out back to bash it in, I will give it a few whacks for all of you too :)

I feel for you. I went through three months late last year when my new computer was ailing. Everytime I got on the net it froze up after about three minutes. I stripped off everything I could think of and when that didn't work I broke down and bought Ad-aware It was the best thirty bucks I ever spent. I found out my system was loaded with malware and other little nasties. I got rid of those and dumped my McAffee for Norton and haven't had a problem since.

It sounds to me like you might have need to clean out your temp files. You can do this through your web options or you can use this handy little program CleanUp. It's free and kinda cute--sounds like a toilet flushing. Using it regularly allows your computer to load fast and not crash all the time. The first time you use it though it might freak you out since it looks like the thing is wiping out your entire computer, lol.

You also might want to try defragging. Again you can do this with your basic computer functions, but I use Diskeeper. I got it free with my system, but there is a trial version available too.

On Jayne's note on Adaware: You can get a program called Spybot: Search and Destroy from the internet, which is free and is as good, if not better than, Adaware.

I have both AdAware and Spybot and run them both...one while sometimes catch something the other missed...

Grrrr....not funny, lil missy. The bushes out back were just squeaking at me as I smoked. I took care of it, though. I put that cigarette right out and came inside.

I have SpyBot and the free version of Ad Aware and run them often. I haven't defragged our cleaned out my temp files in a while, though. Will definitely give it a shot. Thanks :rose:

I'll decide what's funny until you're sober enough to really chew my ass for it. :D

Suppose I'm gonna have to trek out there this summer and see to those squeaky bushes.

ROFL!

She's really gonna love that one, Bel.

I waved a Windows 2000 CD at my PC and it straighted right up!

Free Spybot S&D - be SURE you click on the "Immunize" button, and every time after you get updates, which should be at least every two weeks.
Free Ad-Aware is good for getting rid of most bad things but has no Ad-Watch function.

You still have to have a good anti-virus program too, so keep your Norton.
