Reading the “What happens when we die” thread by Jade, made me think the following:-
Could both ideas be right at the same time, (this is what I see as the cosmic joke)
God touched the void, the energy imparted tipped the balance at that instant and set off the big bang.
The image in my mind associated with this event is of a calm still pond, and a child leaning over it to dip a single finger into the middle of it, then sitting back and watching the ripples as the spread outwards.
Who is to say there are not many ponds, the child visiting each in turn and creating the ripples we see as our universe?

Personally I think the universe was created when a giant egyptian tortoise burped in the macroverse. Thats how all universes were created. :D

KillerMuffin:

I guess you're a Stephen King fan, too. The tortoise was a neat idea.

Of course ther is no imperical eveidence of an uncaused cause. It would be a contridiction in terms. That's ok, The Flat Earth Society will tell you that there is no imperical evidence that the earth is a globe. There is imperical evidence that suports both the wave theory and the partical theory of the nature of light, both of which are mutally exclusive. The point is not to rely on reasoning, it will reach out and bite you when you least expect it (kind of like Canid Camera).

To much is made of the conflicts between the two and not enough attention paid to the overwhelming congruences.

As Steven Hawking once said (anbd I'm paraphrasing), there's plenty of room for God before the Big Bang, before the univere's physical laws were created, but afterwards, well, the Universe just doesn't need him anymore

Dixon Carter Lee before this is taken as a malicious attack i just want it known that it is not.

I respect your athiestic {pardon if my speling is wrong}stand point but I do not agree. Although it is true you could write book upon book of why God is unreal and not neccasry, i would even support your right to write from other ppl who would not want it published. and all i have is one compilation of 66 books to compare to the vastness of resources available to you. This is one subject in which i must agree to disagree with you.

again this is not a flame nor to be taken as a flame

The posted question was about thoughts on the co-existance of God and the Big Bang, and I supplied one (by Steven Hawking, not me). What's yours?

Sorry for being so malicious! LOL.

Reminds me of a T-shirt: "I believe in the Big Bang theory. God spoke, and BANG! It was."

And Dixon? Quit being so damned malicious. ;)

IT okay it's IT the damned thing is called IT and maybe I took a little bit of BB license by making the turtle into a an egyptian tortoise, but I thought it was terribly apropos considering!!!!!

*blushes incandescently*

Oh, you weren't talking to me were you, DCL. I am so embarrassed. I think I'm going to take myself off now. I am soooooo horribly embarrassed.

No KM, didn't say anything re you. Don't worry...

Endlessly, I'm sorry, that was a typo. I meant to say I'm "delicious", not "malicious".

Now, what was that evil impulse you expressed on the other thread...?

*innocent smile*

I'm sorry, what was that, Dixon? My mind was three feet away in that broom closet..

*muttering to self* BAD oral fixation. BAD!..

Ezzy I like the example and I believe it to be closer to the truth than might be expected. I had considered a box enclosing a vacumn with a small pin hole allowing in atoms creating the universe. (one of many most likely) The pond with ripples doesn't have the defined boundries that a box would and I like that. If E=MC2 then thought or energy could be turned into matter by slowing the speed it is traveling at. So this whole thing may just be a thought that God had and we believe that it to be real.

DCL when I get home to my computer I will read the other threads and try and post something for you to bite into. :)
I still believe that there is a flaw in the logic that man evolved accidentally but will have to give you a long post to refute. Hey just curious but what do you say when you hit your finger with a hammer. :) :(

Woe to the women. Dixon not only has the long staff but claims to be "delicious" too.

Steven Hawking (an aside)!

I Met Steven Hawking at the end of last year.I have to say what a great mind, with a great sense of humor and the honesty to say when he doesn't know.
He is so sharp and doesn't miss a trick or a chance to laugh.
With respect to this post. I dont KNOW the answer (not my job,( I only posed the question)). LMAO.

Well, hell I don't know. I'm just waiting for somebody to spell empirical correctly.

What do you mean! My hand is always this colour!

Thank Big Bang for that! Phew, I can get out of here now!

I'm Getting Delusional...

Who says there's a universe at all? I exist ("I think therefore I am") but, really, everything else is just a figment of my imagination. (And, from the looks of it, I have a pretty raunchy imagination!)
