Go Yanks!!!

I didn't read past the first few posts of this thread. I hate the Yankees and really hate Derek Jeter.

Hopefully they'll lose the next three by horrendous margins, prefereably over 30 and the franchise will be dissolved.

Well I can dream, can't I?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I love the Yankees, but other than Jeter being a great player, I really don't see why many women are in love with him. I can name at least 4 Yankees who are way better-looking. Many are probably nicer as well.

Why all the hate, by the way? Because they're a good team? I just don't understand that...

I have just never ever liked the Yankees. Part of it is probably being from Texas originaly. I also don't like it when one team starts to dominate a league or association. It gets boring to watch the same team win over and over. This is the same reason I don't like the Lakers or Kobe.

Ughh Kobe I hate him even more then Jeter.

It's not because they're good... It's because they're lucky.

When you pitch against the Yanks, the strike zone becomes increasingly smaller and smaller throughout the game, yet while the Yanks pitch, it can be in the dirt and a called strike.

Jeter is NOT a great player. He's mediocre. At best. His numbers compare to most spare-to-fare outfielders in the legue. Why's he great? NY media propaganda.

Additonal reasons above.

Yeah I swear the umps in NY are bias and getting some from of bribe.

Hell, most of the Umps grew up loving the Yankees. So naturally when they become all fat and stuff they'll be biased to their childhood favourites.

They're just jealous

You guys are just pissed the Yankees didn't want you on their roster.;) Although, I DO agree, seeing the same team over, and over, DOES get BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great, if the Yanks win. If they don't, well...they WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you won't being eating them

Now...who does that leave? WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!:) As long as I can return the favor. :D

Sour Grapes? Let me ask you a question... How hard is it to be a Yankees fan? Really? How hard is it?

Let's see you've got 27 some odd World Series victories
Who knows how many division victories
Most of the past "greats"

Loving a team that isn't the little darlings of the baseball world, is tough. You have to stick with them through thick and thin (Unlike NYY's constant Thick) we don't have an overbearing brainwashing media here.

What does that get us?

3 Division Wins then promptly running into the brick wall.

Try loving a team that it takes a bit of comitment to love, instead of one that you have nothing but cream rising times (oddly enough that isn't some sort of sexual metaphor ;) )

For me, it isn't just that the teams good, it's because I live in NY, so I route for the home team. EXCEPT the Bills. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love how people assume that most Yankees fans just jump on the bandwagon when they're doing well. I've been a Yankees fan since high school- my boyfriend played baseball and I started getting into it. Being from NY, and living right above the Bronx, it was natural that I rooted for the Yankees. They sucked back then, but I still liked them.

It's really sad that I feel the need to explain why I like a certain team, but I think it's also sad that people feel the need to bash teams and their fans (and not in good fun, but in all seriousness).

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!! Hell, I'm a Jets fan, and they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! Do you see me running off to another team, just because their better? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've threatened to do that, mind you.:D

Good God, I'm a Cowboy fan to boot. I was even predicitng 0-16 to boot.

lilminxm, sorry, it's just the one team I feel that way about in all of sports.

Yankee fan, Cowboys fan, Notre Dame fan, L.A. Lakers fan, ahhh maybe the bandwagon will stop in my neck of the woods and let me on someday.

To admire is not to ape. Admire the above but don't be a "fan" unless you're A, from said place. B, a student of the game and have attended more games at said stadium than years in your life; i.e. if you're 30, have you attended 30 Lakers games in your lifetime? 15? 3? 1?

It's pretty easy to be a television fan but how many have actually been to the stadium and tried to find parking?

That is just your opinion of what constitutes an actual fan, but based on your criteria, I am a true Yankee fan. However, I don't see anything wrong with it if a kid lives in NY but is a Dodgers fan b/c his family grew up loving the Dodgers. He's a fan b/c his family loved them. I don't think it's your right to tell people what makes a real fan or not.

Hey Lilminx,

That wasn't an attack on you specifically. Like an asshole, my opinion is one of many. I just think it's funny to see people putting away their Cowboy gear and de-mothballing their Miami Hurricanes jackets. I was there to witness the Hurricane jackets go into storage after the '92 Sugar Bowl. Amazing how a college with so few alumni and students have so many "supporters." I like the Lakers, Yankees, etc. but to put on the cap or parka and pretend I'm down with the posse is laughable. It's very Japanese. I went to Japan in the '80's and saw a young man wearing my university colors and name, followed by the word "player". I had a friend ask the guy if he had studied in the states or if it was a gift from an American friend. The guy had no idea what we were talking about and didn't know that it was the name of a school and state. That's fine if you're from another country, but what happens to all the Yankee hats if Seattle, the Braves, or the DB's win?

Point taken. There are, however, people who consider themselves fans of teams that are nowhere in their vicinity. They like the team whether they'rw doing great or shitty. I think that's what makes a true fan- liking the team through thick and through thin.

I guess what we're talking about is degrees of fandom. I'm not a passive fan, I am as the word says a "fanatic" of certain teams. If you're financially able and live far away from your team, would it be too much to go to a game once or twice a year? That's how teams are supported and get to stay in cities. Not by buying a jacket or hat. Those profits all go to a pooled fund in most sports.
