Recently re-elected British Member of Parliament George Galloway is demonstrating to Washington just what Free Speech means.

Search for his 'evidence' before the committee. I doubt they have heard such language for many years.

Is he right? That's another question.

He is known as a maverick and had the support of the Muslim vote on May 5th.

I don't know what to believe about the guy, but I do like how he's so outspoken and tries to shake things up from within. Respect.

I know nothing of the evidence the US Senate claims to have and so have formed no opinion on his guilt or innocence, but I heard parts of his speech on the radio (BBC World News is broadcast on the local NPR when I'm usually driving home, have heard nothing on local news yet) and I thought the speech was beautifully done and very impressive. Made me grin in rush hour traffic.

I have to say, if he was given license to sell 12 million barrels of oil by Saddam, then he should really be off sunning himself in a non-extradition country by now. The fact that he's still serving as an MP makes me doubt any wrongdoing.

What a difference there is across the pond. O'er here, the fact that one's a politician makes people assume that any accusations of wrongdoing are true.

Clearly, Ogg, the long history of tried and (sometimes) failed governmental systems in your homeland has afforded your politicians a perspective that seems to evade politicians in the New World. That is to say, the truth will out, and there's ample evidence that it will happen sooner rather than later. Besides, truth is so much easier to keep track of than lies.

The image of anyone speaking unashamed truth that contradicts the congressional questioners is so novel in this country, that I hope it gets airplay for a long time.
