gluttony will bankrupt english nhs say Medical experts

Nothing cures gluttony faster than famine.

Nothing cures panic about another threat to NHS funding than shortened life spans caused by diabetes.

They can't have it both ways. People live longer? They cost more. People die earlier? They apparently still cost more.

The taxes on alcohol and tobacco pay far more into the NHS than the cost of treating people with conditions caused by alcohol and tobacco. The sinners are subsidising the righteous. :)

PS. It's all part of the annual argument between those running the NHS and the government. "We want more - and more - and more!". The NHS gets more, and more, and more but it still is never enough. If they really tried to run the NHS efficiently? They wouldn't need so much money to do better - but politics get in the way.

You can only divide up a dollar, or whatever you all are using for money these days, into so many pieces. Once you put one foot into the Socialism canoe, best be prepared for low water. :)

And yet the UK's "socialist" system costs less than half per capita what the US' profit led system does and provides better healthcare.

I think we all owe the OP a vote of thanks for providing Bert the opportunity to show that he's an imbecile.

You never were good at understanding large concepts, George. :)

You're still useless at math.

The population of Europe is large yet almost all European countries have universal health care. How it is organised differs country by country yet none of them pay as much as the US for health services - and they cover everyone!

EU population 508 million
US population 321 million

PS. I can apply for a European Health Care Card which covers me almost anywhere in Europe:

Does the EHIC cover everywhere in Europe?

No. Key omissions include the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican. If these places figure in your travel plans, then you should seriously consider travel insurance.

While the former Yugoslavian republics of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia are outside the EU and the EEA, the UK has reciprocal health-care agreements which work like the EHIC.

Further afield, there are similar bilateral arrangements with other countries, such as Australia and New Zealand, for which the EHIC is not required. Note, however, that these treaties do not cover the journey between the UK and Australasia.

England's healthcare system handles all of Europe? You can't even effectively care for a population roughly that of California.
