My question is, how do you prove you are GLBT? Do I have to make out with a woman on a webcam or something?

ComeOutPoker.com Offers Online Poker Alternative
Site Is Dedicated to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Audience
Poker has always been a progressive sport. A person could be of any color, race, or sex and participate, as long as the player had chips. As times have changed, poker’s open-door policy has continued to attract all types of players and, with the recent launch of ComeOutPoker.com, this trend is sure to continue.

ComeOutPoker.com is the world’s first online poker site dedicated exclusively to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) marketplace. Featuring a host of traditional poker games as well as an interesting variation of no-limit Texas hold’em that eliminates straights from having any value, ComeOutPoker.com provides both poker action and a friendly environment for its patrons.

According to ComeOutPoker.com spokesman Marc Willis, the site is dedicated to providing a fun, comfortable place for like-minded players to call home. “ComeOutPoker is proud to be the first online poker site to provide the GLBT community a real poker room. Poker has long been a way for people to come together in a community-like atmosphere to meet, play, and have fun,” Willis said in a recent press release.

The site encourages player contact, offering the ability to post photos with player profiles as well as providing a real-time chat window that lets players converse during the time they are logged in.

Although the site is dedicated to the GLBT community, players on the site have a number of traditional promotions available on many nonspecific poker site like a 100 percent deposit bonus, a $10,000 freeroll, and satellites to larger-payout tournaments, like the site’s $20,000 tournament.

please dont let lucky see this?
please?
i'll lose her to the game for sure!

I'm not entirely sure that a GLBT Poker site was necessary or even a good idea, but that's the business of the site's creators and backers (although it will likely become the business of others, since society in general is not very good at treating individuals as such). As for how they'll know, I don't think it's a requirement so much as a marketing angle and target demographic.

The variation without Straights is silly though, it sounds like a joke in a Late Night TV monologue.

Agreed.

I think this is a case of "how can we make our poker site different so it stands out from all of the other poker sites? Oh, I know! We can market to gays and lesbians!"

yes but every product has a marketing ploy...right down to rice crispies.

That's probably true. Ideally, I don't care -- it's their business and they're free to do whatever they want.

However, as a person in that target demographic, I am also always concerned about the PR aspect of those sorts of actions and ideas (somewhat out of necessity, though I despise that being a necessity).

Angela,
I know to most the idea probably seems absurd or unnecessary, but I'm actually excited about it. I love playing poker on line and have been at tables in the past with friends where joking about sexuality came up and some of the other members at the table went berserk. There was scripture quoted, admonishments made, and threats handed out. Not pretty. I'm sometimes wary of supporting too many 'strictly' GLBT membership things because I believe integration needs to progress, but there are also times that I just get tired of fighting so hard and would love a laid back, safe place to play.

Interesting idea, though. Maybe when school's out, I'll have to drop in for a hand or two.

That's the real positive side of this. Presumably the "moderators" would ban people who spout anti-GLBT stuff in the chat function. Hence there would be an opportunity for openly gay social chatter.

Well that means you don't have to provide a chat window, cuz the only time guys who play poker chat is when there is a woman at the table. So you'll save on that part of the programming. ;)
