Give up smoking

See your doctor. Zyban is a wonderful thing. (It is not the only trick, but it sure is a damned good one!)

AARGH GIVE ME A FUCKING FAG!

Stout Chap, I know what you're going thru. Its been 7 weeks since my last cigarette and even though I am over the physical cravings, there are times my mind says that I want to savour a cigarette. But...then I think of the taste and say YUCK!
Stick with it and you'll be happy you did. I feel much better and find that both my lungs and stamina are growing stronger.

-kym- having other cravings

I know what you guys are talking about. I'm not a smoker, but a chewing tobacco user. I've chewed Copenhegan for many years. Tried quiting many times, twice for over 6 months. This time, I'm using the nicotene gum. Seems to get me over the nicotene craving, then I chew a lot of regular gum to get past the habit part. Almost one week and no cheating! Hope to be able to quit for good this time.

Good luck to the rest of you trying to quit!

why the hell would you want to quit?

To increase his chances of avoiding a slow and painful death as his insides turn black?

Be Careful

Be careful with the various products out there to help you quit. My father quit four years ago and still chews the gum. As for me, the Zyban did not let me sleep at all, I was lucky to get two hours a night. Just a warning.

If you have a VERY supportive partner they can offer you an alternative to keep your hands and mouth busy whenever you have those really strong cravings. It works but my wife can't understand why after 5 months I still have those cravings a few times a day.

Oh ya and as to why I would want to quit. I had this strong desire to actually live long enough to see my kids become adults.

Having a baby was enough motivation for me. I didn't want to set a bad example for him (children of smokers are twice as likely to become smokers themselves). I also thought he deserved to have a mom who was healthy and not possibly going to be dying of lung cancer when he is in high school, especially since I am a single mom. Also, cigarettes are expensive and the money that would have gone to cigarettes can be spent much more wisely in our household.

I never had any desire to quit before I got pregnant. That was a huge motivator!

Try some frozen licorice sticks whenever you have a craving.

And yes, pregnancy is a very big motivator.

the only people i know who quit and quit succesfully simply stopped smoking, stopped hanging where people smoked ( for awhile, at least), and avoided, as much as is possible, being around cigarettes at all.

everyone else relapsed (including myself) due to continued exposure to the people and the product. so i suggest isolating yourself. it seems to be the easiest way.

My ex husband was a smoker, and after my son was born I probably would have relapsed at some point from being around him smoking all the time. I made him go outside to smoke, but still. Good point.

I have been smoke free for 3 years, 2 months, and three days...

Believe me it is well worth it. I can actually breathe now. When I quit I tried to avoid stressfull situations. I actually stayed with my mother for a week to be away from my bitchy roomate. She smoked though so I was harder. I used the Nicoderm CQ patch and it worked great for me.

Good luck,

I think I am doing all right. It's the morning cravings that get you the most. I have taken up chomping mints and doing the hoovering (yes, the hoovering) to take my mind off the craves. Any chance I get the hoover comes out. I'll have it cracked, eventually!! I think I might have a go at one of those patch things.

Keep up the effort. I chewed gum and sucked on suckers also. The suckers gave me something to do with my hands also...

I quit smoking 2 years ago. It was cheap, non addicting and non fattening and it worked wonders. What I did was went to the grocery store and bought all the cinnamon certs by the register. I think it was 6 boxes. Every time I had a craving for a smoke, I put a certs in my mouth. I only used them when I had a craving. At first I went through a wholelot of them, but after the first 3 weeks, I noticed I was using the certs less often, after 3 months, I cold keep a box of certs for a month and soon, I didn't need them at all. I have told others about how I quite and they tried it with Peppermint and spearmint. Seems the strong flavor helps. Don't chew them. Let them melt in your mouth. By the time the certs is gone, so is your craving. Try it.

Hang in there mate.

Its worth it.

Zyban worked for me. No side-effects.

I gained 15 lbs from snacking on pretzel sticks, but a little extra weight is better then fags.

Spank :D
