Okay, I have question in regards to a matter of etiquette. I sometimes get PMs or emails from people giving feedback on one or another of my stories, but they do not seem to be leaving comments or voting.

How completely tacky and tasteless and utterly whorish of me would it be to write back to them and tactfully hint that although I appreciate their feedback, I would appreciate it even more if they voted and left a comment?

Would it be very, very wrong of me?

But they may be voting and using a PM or e-mail instead of the comment section....

I get a lot more e-mails than I do comments on average.... I acknowledge them all with a thank you note.... This sometimes leads to more correspondence and sometimes not.... I don't ask for votes as such but I do ask if they voted if they've not indicated already... several times, I've found people who did realize that voting was an option and/or how to go about it....

I base how good a story is on these e-mail comments more than I do votes.... These people took the time to seek me out so they actually read the story.... ;) :D

Crap, you're right. I'm going to get in trouble if I don't shut up. Okay, everyone:

Forget I said anything!

Too late?

Damn.

Forgiven

What kind of wieners would we be if we didn't forgive you? You should email George W. and explain to him that it's alright to acknowledge you've made a small boo-boo or 2. Or 3. Or 34.

Ask and ye shall receive, Darla! Posted comments for two of your stories, including a rather lengthy reflection on CHERRIES AND CREAM.

Hi Don! Thank you very much for your comments. This is exactly the sort of feedback that I love to hear. You obviously took the time out to really critique my stories.

In "Cherries and Cream", the opening line is meant to be an allusion to "Penthouse Forum" letters. I originally intended the story to be a slightly satirical take on the outlandish, unrealistic sexual encounters that are described in men's magazines, but from a woman's point of view. I suppose it ultimately changed directions, and now the first sentence doesn't really work as I had initially planned.

You have definitely given me useful advice, and I really appreciate it. Thank you!

You definitely achieved that "Forum" feel, but your story was so hot that it elevated itself above the level of satire and became the exact sort of fantasy that most "Forum" letter writers are shooting for but never achieve. I have to say - I have, admittedly, read many of those types of letters in my lifetime and have almost always found the ones written from a female perspective to be much, much hotter. CHERRIES AND CREAM is a great example of how a talented writer can mix all of the ingredients of male fantasy into a smoking hot female personal account.

You've got this ass backward, girl. You do your vote/comment whoring when you're flashing your literary thigh at the kerb-crawling readers - i.e. at the top or bottom of your story - that's when they're in the best position to give you a high-five.

Even the most successful writers here unashamedly rattle the begging bowl for votes and comments - usually at the end, just above the little button.

But, after they've gone to the trouble of sending you a mail or PM? Isn't that a tad greedy?

I know, I know. I haven't had the guts to do that.

If all the Academy superstars do it here (just look at the Kittens etc) why not us foot soldiers.

Go out there and sell your wares. There's no such thing as bad publicity.
