Yep, these subpoenas lead directly into court, a judge, and, prospectively, a prison cell. There is a lot of appealing possible, though, and they could just show up and plead the 5th. All the time they are yammering, though, they are in the spotlight as avoiding talking about what they knew they shouldn't be doing.

They can challenge the sub P's on numerous grounds. If they win (highly unlikely) the sub P's are quashed and can't be reissued.

If the sub P's are enforced, they'll probably be advised to take the 5th.

ANYONE who makes any statement that their invoking the 5th means that they knew they were committing crimes, violates their Rights. They have an absolute Right to do that. It means NOTHING as to either guilt or innocence and cannot be used to infer guilt. IF your news feed attempts to make any headway out of it, you'll know at that very moment whether your news source is worth continuing to get information from.

Well, yes....in a court of law. But in the court of opinion and political points, invoking the fifth means something different. And in Congressional testimony, there is no legal ramifications outside a criminal referral. And that would require evidence to overcome their pleasing the fifth anyway.

I do find it funny that the right has continually argued that Congress isn't a court of law and so their subpoenas don't matter while at the same time arguing legally during proceedings like this committee.
