Girly-men

Much appreciation, JBJ, nice to have something new that confirms an earlier thesis.

One would expect a total denial and rejection by the 'usual suspects', both genders, but then, their deep association and dependence on Pharma has rendered them unable to even discover their 'natural' proclivities in many, many ways...

There is a lightly disguised thread by CharlieH, purporting that 'sex' should be the core of all discussions. Does that sound more than a little obsessive? Curious in a way as sex requires very little cerebral participation when it becomes the center of one's life, it rather degenerates into an endless search for variety and physical pleasure.

Fairly old research, but pretty well established. Birth control pill aside, women who are ovulating will find themselves more attracted to rugged, masculine looks, while women who are at the less fertile portion of their cycle will be more drawn to softer features. Physical attractiveness as a whole often matters more during fertility as well. Of course, masculineness isn't a yes/no proposition. It's actually distributed fairly well on a normalized distribution with somewhere between "masculine" and "girly" being the norm.

Sadly, there have been documented cases of a woman meeting a man while on birth control, becoming seriously involved, then losing (physical) attraction to him when deciding to go off the pill. The opposite can be true as well, where a woman who is only using condoms gets into a relationship and goes on the pill and loses some sexual attraction to her chosen mate.

Again, we're dealing in percentages and trends, not absolutes. There's also a lot of anecdotal and statistically supported evidence that physical appearance is only one piece of the puzzle for mate selection, and not even the most important one for women.

The actual article linked also glosses over the fact that prior to the 1960s, men pretty much completely controlled Hollywood. They pushed stars that they either assumed women would like, or they thought were attractive. Market research was still in its infancy to say the least. Men invariably think women find far more masculine features and muscular builds attractive than they do in reality.

Most US posters would not be aware of the fact that the sales pitch of the Daily Mail (JBJ's Source) in the seventies was " Every woman needs her Daily Mail" - kinda adds another dimension tho' I wonder how it would play now.

I think its sexual politics and the feminization of Western Civilization. Florence King is the author you want to read to learn about how the girls are gelding the boys.
