Is it me or maybe I'm just being unreal, but it seems like guys' erotic stories do better than girls. Is it because guys describe women and women are more sexy to read about than a girl describing a guy? I found it that when I do a story from a male POV I get better scores and responses. When I do a story on a female POV I get a lower score. Is it just me?

I'd hazard a guess that more of the _readers_ are male, and therefore more interested in reading stories from a male POV. Got no figures to back it up and am probably supporting an unfounded stereotype, but it's my tuppence.

Actually, I find pretty much the opposite: I tend to prefer female authors no mater which gender's POV they write from. Women seem better able to write from the male POV than vice versa, although there are some exceptions.

Phildo steps out quietly on to a broken limb and says, "Penis Envy"?

I do not care who the Author is M/F I like a female pov, but prefer to read what I can relate too. That is a male pov.

Lest I be misunderstood, I don't really care about the sex of the author either. I just noticed several years ago that the authors I liked the best happened to be female -- and often named Elizabeth.

Actually, the trend began early in my reading career although I didn't know it; One of my favorite authors as a child was Andre Norton -- the male psuedonym of a female author.

See, I'd guess that more erotica readers are female, in general. I think many more women read smut than men do. Of the feedbacks I've received (feedbacks that are gender-identifiable) a small percentage (one out of every forty or so) have been from male readers.

That being said, I also prefer to read an erotic story written by a woman. I certainly have favorite authors of both genders, on Lit and in real life, but (pardon the "broad" stereotype) when choosing between two equally promising stories by unknown writers, I'll go with the female, because I've found that, from my experience reading stories on Lit, the writing is apt to be better technically.

Well, I just checked and my three stories with a score
over 4.5 -- as of now -- include two from a male POV and
one from 3rd-person omniscient (which gives both M and F).
Which, I guess, supports the contention. but it only
supports it weakly.
I'm not very good at guessing what will score well. I did
a comparison a while back between my scores on Lit and
scores on Stories on Line. For stories which were on both
sites, there was -- if anything -- a negative correlation
between the scores. The top stories on one site were
likely to be the bottom stories on the other.

Hi. Here's me, on a very weak branch.

Ok, we have one guess that most readers here are men, and another saying that most readers are women. Anyone knows?

I'm gonna do a little feeding of the stereotype troll here, and claim that a man is more likely to write stories that falls in with the general porn stereotype, without much depth, but easy to wank to.

The POV doesn't really matter, but the themes does. Is it more likely that a man or a woman writes the tale of the little slutty college girl that gets boinked by her professors? There are whole conceptual genres (the slut-wife, the happy whore...) for stictly male fantasies, where the man (or men) in the story is nothing special, and the woman is a sexy little minx. Those are most often written by men.

I have not much fact to back this up, only the few Lit stories that I've read, where this was the tendecy, so feel free to poke a big, gaping hole in my arguments.

Uther, I noticed the same thing as well. My best performing Lit stories were my worst performing SO stories. Although, I haven't posted to StoriesOnline in a long while.

The complimentary feedback I get seems to be mainly from ladies.

I can't tell with the truly anonymous angry feedback but the tone seems to suggest that the story has offended a male control freak who sees women as objects.

I haven't had any yet from the deadly duo. Perhaps I'll write a scatalogical incest story if I can match the peerless output of the DG consortium e.g Mom's Submarine. That should offend.

Some of my worse stuff, that is the most violent natured in a forced fantasy thing I did a while back attracted about 75pc favourable female feedback to the remaining 25pc male. Go figure, I assumed I'd get slated by the girls, just three objected the rest loved it and made all manner of vile recommendations for a sequel.

Personally speaking gender of the author doesn't concern me, if the tale's a good read I'll enjoy from both male and female.

I see the point about the so called average Lit reader though, a lot of red necks prefer the butch approach to descriptive sex action as put over mainly by males. The girls can get rough but tend to be a little more precise and sympathetic in the main I find.

A good female friend has just written her first tale and as I understand from chatting with her it has attracted a deluge of favourable feedback from males, along with many proposals of marriage and all things between:D She did write it as a porno flick rather than a precise story though so this may explain the interest. She aimed it at the target audience and scored a bull.

I think anyone male or female can do this aiming stunt and win.

pops..............:D

I have noticed that most of the highest scoring stories are by male authors- but maybe that is just because there are more male authors overall on lit?

I think that women authors tend to get more feedback, especially from men. I just think most men in general don't want to send a note to a male author to tell him "how hot you made me with your story" THe feedback they do get is likely to be more from women. I have to beg for feedback from women- but when I do get it it's usually posive. I think a lot of readers view lit as a big personal ad, and responnd with that in mind.

damn keyboard...

I have been mistaken for a woman quite a few times because of my story on Lit. I take that as a compliment, since it has always come from women. They said that I wrote from the female POV so well that they assumed I was female. (The story is in third person, this was just their take on my approach.) I don't know if that had much, if anything, to do with my positive feedback. And I have gotten feedback from men as well as women. But it is a lot different. The men have given me purely critical feedback and expressions of enjoying the work. It's been the women who have told me that they thought the story was hot. In all fairness, I wrote it specifically involving the fantasies of two women I know. Those two elements seemed to be what really struck home with the female readers who responded.

Well, as much as it doesn't appear to be the way the prevailing winds are blowing on this thread, I feel compelled to add my 2cp.

I'm fairly convinced that in a setting like lit, men will give preference to women - Very simply because male readers read a story by a woman, vote high and then send the woman feedback saying 'u r hot fuk me now plz'

And I'm pretty sure that the majority of lit readers are male

The males, are of course, vying for the attenion and favor of the females - It is the age-old dance, and I don't see it changing any time soon - Just take a browse through the AmPics board to see what I mean.

Raph, in sardonic and cynical mood today :rose:

I'm going by my experience and bias here, but I would guess most of the readers on Lit. are female simply because men are basically visual when it comes to sex. Yeah, it's a generality but based in reality. It's what the 'women's porn' thread is about. Men have ruled porn flicks til now, and even printed smut. Perhaps Lit. (and feminism) is helping change all that, but for now and for much anon I don't see men discarding their visual needs for the printed word.

That was only a few centavos worth, don't get your pantalones twisted, hombres.

Perdita ;)

Very true, sweetnpetite!

Nor, as a male writer, do I want to receive feedback from a guy, telling me: "Loved your story. You made me come so hard, I broke my coccyx!"

Heh, the closes so far must be this feedback of mine...

Hello mr Icing sugar!

That was a good story please write some more.
You have some problem with your perspective
sometimes that makes the story confussing
to read. only a little bit but i hope you don't mind
constructive critisism. Beside that it was still
good for a wank or two.

Have a good day!

As someone often mistaken for a male writer, I've gotten feedback from a fellow who chose to inform me that he beat off so many times he got a blister on his weenie ... which is something that, guy or gal, I really could have gone without knowing ...
