Girls and Women

it would seem to be one of those words that is ok when used by one woman to another, but less fitting when used by a man refering to a woman....

doesnt bother me although sometimes it bothers me when im treated like a little girl

Is using the word "girl" when referring to a grown woman demeaning?

depends. If it's MEANT in a demeaning way then of course. But if it's an endearment or a pet name, or just cute, then no.

I'm a girly girl, but I'm definitely a woman. Did that make sense? It's too early!

LOL!

The older i get, the less likely i am to get all hotted up by labels.
I know what i am.
I know what i'm worth.

If you want to call me a "girl", i'll just smile with amusement at you and continue on my way. Could you card me while you're at it, though, and really make my day?

The problem with labeling women as girls, even if no intentional harm is meant, is the underlying characteristics that such a label connotes. By definition, a girl is a child or inexperienced or immature woman. In arenas where females are attempting to gain equal footing with males, I see no benign use of the term if the males are referred to as men.

This is not to say that I do not agree with Cym - I know who I am, and I also know what I'm worth. I just don't want others to make unintentionally demeaning presumptions about me based on my gender that could affect my professional life.

Depends on the connotation

Hey, girl friend! Giiiirrrrrlllll! Stop acting like a little girl! Girl, I love you! You sexy girl! :p
