Now that Gilligan has departed this veil of tears (as my dad would have said, while rolling his eyes heavenward and sneaking another pecan-half to whichever beagle was under the table) it's time to settle this once and for all.

I wanted to be Ginger and I wanted the Professor to fall in love with me. Maybe he wasn't the smartest professor on the planet, but he was the hottest thing in pants on that island. I imagined him rescuing me from those headhunters whose raft design he'd never been able to emulate, and using his manly attributes to seduce me. I think he might have if I (Ginger) had had more than the one evening gown, which must have smelled pretty bad after a year or two without dry cleaning.

Who did I want to be? Neither ... I wanted to be Samantha from Bewitched (much cooler to have magic than to be stuck on a deserted island, even if you got to act out Hamlet to the music of Carmen)

But to choose between the archetypes of Ginger (femme fatale) and Mary Ann (girl next door); well if Gilligan and the Professor couldn' t how could anyone else? But since you pointed out that Ginger had only one potentially smelly evening dress (actually, I think she also had a second dress made from the Minnow's sail), my vote goes for Mary Ann.

(I always was a sucker for coconut cream pie)

Mrs. T.H. I always love a high maintenance bitch, especially a rich one! ;)

Joking, but she was interesting.

Aside: And I could take rich and slutty or high maintenance and slutty. Ginger was a casting couch, MaryAnn was too ... too Beverly Hill Billy. ;)

She was so stingy with all those trunks of clothing!

BTW, was she smoking a cigarette or just danging the cigarette holder from her fingers? Where'd she buy her cigs?

The public has a right to know.

Mary Ann. I definately wanted to do Mary Ann. Heck I still want to do Mary Ann.

LOL! Well, why did people come to the island every episode? I thought the island was unkown? I also thought Gilligan and the Captain would have had as many changes of clothes as the rest of them! Damn, they must have stunk! :D

Edit to add: no wonder they never got laid by Ginger or MaryAnn! :D

PS: why is the poll skewed towards choosing the chicks? :| Maybe I wanted to be the Captain, and have my little buddy? :D Mrs TH was the most powerful woman on board the tiny ship that set sail.

I wanted to be Mrs. Howell, she had great hats.

In life some of us are Gingers while the rest are MaryAnn's.

I wanted to be an exotic native that made much bettter use of two coconut halves than trying to make a radio or some other silly thing like that.

The natives were ingenious at traveling to and from the island. It stands to reason that they were also more fashionable.

Never underestimate the power of a nice tan, long dark hair, a grass skirt and tits behind fruit.

I often wondered about some things too. Headhunters lived on nearby islands and traveled to Gilligan's island sometimes. Why didn't they live there too?

People used to come to the island all the time. One time Ginger's double showed up. Another time, a rock group called, I believe, The Mosquitos. Wrong-way Feldman a couple of times. I'm sure there were others from time to time.

Gilligan and the skipper lived on the boat. Didn't they have changes of clothing there? Not only they would have stunk to high heaven they would have worn out eventually.

Why did Ginger or Mrs. H. have suitcases or trunks on a three hour harbor tour?

I voted I would want to do MaryAnn because I thought she was generally sexier but I certainly wouldn't have turned down Ginger. For that matter, I wouldn't have turned down Mrs. Howell either.

Mary Ann.

She was sweet and I like sweet.

Even on a deserted island, a woman like Ginger wouldn't give the time of day.

And Mrs. T. H. III would be second in the pot when the food ran out, after her husband.

I liked Ginger.

You just knew she had some leather wear and fishnet stockings stashed somewhere in her trunk. I think she was probably dishing out the English Discipline to Thurston Howell III at night.

I think the Skipper used to wear Lovey's clothes too, when no one was looking.

Having known some farm girls :nana: myself, I know what you mean. One of the things I liked about her was her  face, so fresh and seemingly innocent. But, when you saw her gorgeous :p body, you knew she couldn't possibly be as innocent as she seemed.

Don't forget bones, either used as a hair-clip or an ornament for a pierced nose.

"The Lost Episodes" are a collector's item.

She'd give you a lot more than the time of day if you could figure out a way to use all those boat parts and radio parts to make something useful like, oh, a boat and radio.

Some professor.

Thay had a radio receiver but no transmitter. As I recall, Gilligan had somehow lost it. I don't know whey they couldn't repair the boat, though. It was wooden and had a hole in it but there were plenty of trees and they could have fashioned boards and held them on using glue made from treesap. The repairs would have been time-consuming but they had plenty of that.

After the show went off the air, people used to chide the actor who had played the professor for not being able to get them off the island. His answer was always something like: "If you were on a desert island with Mary Ann and Ginger, would you want to leave?"
