So Hurricane Seaon is coming. I've started getting ready.

This morning I was up on the roof cleaning all of the pine needles off and putting on a new coat of sealent. (I filled six lawn and leaf bags with pine needles.)

I checked the roof cables and tightened those that had loosened up.

I checked the edges of the roofing itself and put in new screws where they were needed.

All shutters were checked and oiled.

Trees were trimmed back as needed.

Food stocks were checked and lists were made for refilling the supplies.

Water jugs were inspected. (Ten 5 gallon Water Blivets.) Water filters were checked as well as water purification tablets.

Gas cans were checked and I made sure we had enough Gas Stabilizer on hand. (Ten 6 gallon cans as well as six 2 gallon cans.)

The generator was fired up once again and checked over.

It was a busy day but we are now as certain as we can be that we are ready. All we have to do if a storm starts heading our way is fill the gas cans, water blivets and drop the shutters.

Our supplies will include but are not limited to:

50 gallons drinking water.
100 gallons non potable water.
72 gallons gasoline.
5 cases beer.
1 case wine
1 case Tequila
25 tins Spam
10 cases of M.R.E.'s. (!0 meals each case.)
5 boxes Cigars. (50 cigars per box.)
9mm handgun with 100 rounds.
.22 handgun
.22 rifle
500 rounds .22 ammo
Generator
First Aide Kit
Jump kit wich includes O2 tank.
Freezer filled with meats and frozen veggies
4 Hurricane lamps as well as two gallons of lamp oil.
Canned veggies. (Blech)
Freeze dried soups.
Enough Water Purification Tabs for 100 gallons of water.
Water filters
Ten pounds of coffee
Perk Pot
Ten ponds dry cured Bacon
100 tabs 24 hour Sudafed
5 gallons Bleach
Suitable clothing
50 pounds Kitty Litter
30 pounds Kibble
Flea Drops
Two months worth of my wifes Birth Control Meds.

In other words I'm just about ready.

Thanks for the reminder. I was thinking about this the other day and definitely need to stock up on some things. We were a bit short on stuff last year during Ike.

No last minute trips for plywood at Home Depot? No bread and milk run to Publix?
You take all the fun out of a hurricane. :D

No but I might have to run down to the stores with the video camera just to tape the insanity.

The last storm to come through here I hit the gas stations several days before the forecasters called it. I didn't have to deal with the lines or the jacked up prices.

I am a firm believer in being prepared. If you hit the panic stage then I'm going to be laughing at you.

When the last storm came through here many of the trailers around mine were damaged, mine wasn't. All of the damage was to the roofs or the windows. Then again none of those places had roof cables or shutters. They relied on Plywood and hope.

My place has six cables over the roof and all windows have dedicated shutters anchored through the wall studs.

I don't think Florida is going to get as badly this year. In fact I think it will be a relatively light to moderate season as far as hurricans go.

We can only hope. Might make the insurance industry look a bit foolish. (But they still won't drop their rates.)

What? No mention of Duct (Duck) Tape?

Or is that taken as a given?
