getting a tattoo is an extremely personal thing , it has to be something that comes from your heart , expresses who you are or what you have an undying passion for , just my two cents :D

What tattoo do you want to get?

A female friend suggested that I get a tattoo on my ass lol...I was like I don't think so.:D

I don't have a suggestion for a design, because the best tattoos are the unique ones that you don't necessarily find pictures of or find on tattoo art flash websites.

* Be sure of what you want.

* Go to a reputatable artist.

* Do your research.

* Ask questions about sterilization.

* Watch the artist tattoo someone else if possible (it's easy to put together a book and say, "Yeah, I did all these.")

* Don't be afraid to take your time- if you're being rushed, you might not be in the right place.

* Don't ever forget: cheap tattoos aren't always good, and good tattoos aren't always cheap- be prepared to spend a little... it's there forever!

Hope I didn't sound too naggy or motherly there, but I've seen too many botched or plain crappy tattoos. I've only got one, and I'm very happy with it (Egyptian eye of Horus on my ankle). So find one you love, make sure you're going to love it forever, and the best of luck with getting it done :)

Be sure and be safe. And yes, they are addictive. I plan to get my second tattoo soon.

A good friend got a calligraphy pen tattooed onto his ankle, and it looks like its writing a line of words which is a quote from his favorite poem. He's a creative writing major.

Something like that. What I mean is, something that has personal meaning to you, but can also have personal meaning to anyone who sees it. Granted, the tattoo is going to be on you, so you're opinions/wants/interests/personal meanings are what matters most, but I have always been a firm believer that tattoos are also able to be gifts to others when they look at it (or you).

thanks everyone for the info I really appreciate it especially molly dolly, sydney, and discusdave.

and no molly dolly no way did u sound to naggy or motherly your insight has made me more aware and brought things to my attention of what to look for.

yeah don't get one,your not ready if your asking this kind of question,you get a tattoo because it means something not to just have a tattoo.

You'd be surprised...

Just get a tattoo of some kind of animal. That's what people normally do. :devil:

Valid point, but I disagree...

To many the process of getting the tattoo itself is the thrill. Knowing that something is going to be on your body forever is what makes a lot of people excited about tattoos. Getting the tattoo can have just as much meaning as the tattoo itself. Fond memories of good times and impulsive actions, past friendships, or even spending time with someone as they squeeze your hand to help ease you through the pain. These are all powerful meanings that have nothing to do with the design itself.

The tattoo design having meaning is always a plus.... :D
