Smooth away your sharp angles
squiggle the edges of a cube
shorten up an oval
and cut a sphere in two.

Somehow, visit the Poetry Discussion Circle and honestly assess the value of workshopping a poem there. All you are asked to do before submitting a poem, is to offer meaningful/constructive critique on two poems already in their own threads. The best way to do this would be to read the poem (the author and title are in the thread heading) and any specific questions or thoughts by the poet in the opening post first, then work from that without reading through the other critical comments in the thread. Don't be afraid of repeating suggestions, your view is often a different take than anyone else's and will probably open up a new aspect of the poem to the poet, that's why those poems are there.

I would love to see some new poetry offered for discussion in the Circle. It's been a while and I find I have a need to spend some time with other people's poems. (OPP would have been a good acronym but it's taken by a police force). Think about it and maybe I'll see your poem up there.

Don't forget to read the READ THIS FIRST thread first.

This went over like a lead balloon. Ok, maybe after the Spring Cleaning challenge. Keep it in mind, please. If you don't want to scrounge through 31 of your oldies maybe 1 will find its way to the circle.

I'll keep hoping it is so.

I, for one, think it is a wonderful idea; I was hoping some of the more established members of the community would feel the same way.

Anshul's paid a visit to one of my poems up there. I'll have to chew on his comments for a bit and then answer him.

There are around 35 poems up in the circle but some people will likely need to edit their display options to see them all. Scroll to the bottom of the page the link opens and where you find "Default Age Cutoff" set it to "Show All Threads". That way you'll be able to view everything.

Equinoxe, I don't recall seeing a haiku up in the circle, perhaps if you wanted to post a few as a single submission, that would be acceptable or you may have a western style poem to add.

As a note to everyone toying with this idea: remember that one of the steps in learning poetry is practicing the constructive criticism of someone else's work. The PDC is founded on that principle, I hope to see you there.

I initially avoided the thread because of geometry in the title. If you had written Get Your Addition On, well, I would have been less intimidated.

We can't deal with all the fringe cults here, y'know. What about the Subtraction Sluts or the Division Division? I say let them get their own thread :p.

I would have thought that this crowd would be more interested in set operations--intersection, say, and especially, union.

You scared me too, 'cause geometry was not my strong point. I was afraid it was going to be poems about math.

I did okay with boolean algebra, but probability was my favorite.

alright, I'll go do that thing. I guess I've been waiting for something new to go up.

I might! Either way, I am definitely interested in both offering and receiving constructive criticism, but I am not yet sure what sort of work I might want to put up for that possibility. I do have some Western style poems (and will have more in the next few days).
