George Zimmerman shot in the face in road rage incident

Broken glass from the window, after the window was shot, caused the injury. So, they say...

News outlets here are reporting that Zimmerman knows the shooter. The shooter is cooperating with LEO & Zimmerman is with his lawyer and refusing to answer any questions.

This has to be a joke!

Zimmerman was aiming and waving his gun at the other driver, and the driver shot at Zimmerman.

Because the driver felt threatened.

I've owned guns for close to thirty years, many of them of all types and I have never had one loaded in the car or waved one at anyone or carried one around....

what is it with people and what the hell are the laws in these places?

Let's face it, the big culprit in the Martin case was Florida's damn law that allows morons to run around with guns like its the wild west.

The whole purpose of those laws is to pander to racist vigilante bullies who think they're Wyatt Earp. Of course they're going to lead to murders.

Yes, it's a fine example of how a well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right to bear arms shall not be abridged, is contributing to 'Murican Free-dumb!

From what reliable source die you hear or read that? The shooter is named Apperson, and his lawyer is claiming that, but a lawyer for a defendant is not a reliable source.

Keep in mind that Z's window was closed at the time.

I don't believe it. You are actually claiming that a window makes a gun non-threatening?

Of course not, unless the window is made of bullet-proof glass. And an open window would make it easier to aim and would eliminate broken glass spraying back onto the person beside it.

And I'm still questioning the source of the information.

Zimmerman and Apperson's first clash was in September, when Apperson told police Zimmerman had threatened to shoot him during a road rage argument.

Two days later, Apperson called police and said Zimmerman was following him. Police found Zimmerman in his truck nearby, and he said he was in the area for a doctor's appointment.

Both times, Apperson declined to press charges and police did not make any arrests.

Matthew Apperson, 35, of Winter Springs makes a first appearance in Seminole County court, and was given a $35,000 bond on the charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and firing a deadly missile into an occupied conveyance.

The Winter Springs man accused of shooting at George Zimmerman in Lake Mary earlier this week must turn in his weapons and avoid contact with him, a judge ruled this morning.

Matthew Apperson, 35 of Winter Springs, was charged Friday.

He's basically the last of the old school gunslingers. I see no plausible future that doesn't end with one of two options: he kills someone else and goes to prison for real, or he gets shot himself. I wonder if some tragic sense of his own fate is driving his antics.

Police said Zimmerman flagged down an officer to report the shooting, and while that was happening, Apperson called 911.

According to the police report, two handguns – a .40-caliber and a .357 revolver – were recovered from Apperson's vehicle.

An expended .357 shell was found in the vehicle.

Police also recovered a gun from Zimmerman.

Zimmerman's attorney, Don West, said Tuesday that the former neighborhood watch volunteer had moved several weeks ago and was settling in to his new home.

Zimmerman came back to the area this week for Mother's Day and was driving to a doctor's appointment when he became involved in the shooting with Apperson, authorities said.

According to police, Apperson said to officers, “I hope I got him this time,” in September. The two clashed at the time, but Apperson declined to press charges.

During Monday’s road-rage incident, Apperson allegedly told Zimmerman, “You remember me, you (expletive)?”

Zimmerman looked back and did not recognize Apperson, reports said.

Apperson then said, “You owe me your life. The only reason I didn’t press charges on you is because I wanted to kill you myself.”

Channel 9 spoke to Apperson’s mother’s attorney on Friday. “Ms. White absolutely loves her son. She’s a fantastic woman. Very honest. There’s no one trying to hide any balls here,” said Lyle Mazin.

Apperson’s mother hired an attorney, because she was told to give statements to police about the incident.

The suspect's lawyer, Mark NeJame, released a statement which read, "The case will proceed through the criminal justice system appropriately, and ultimately, a determination will be made as what truly happened. Mr. Apperson will continue not to comment until such time as it may be deemed appropriate."

NeJame said that statements were taken from Apperson and Zimmerman, and police determined Apperson would be arrested.

A warrant was issued, and Apperson quickly turned himself in to law enforcement.

NeJame claims his client fired the gun in self-defense.

"He saw George Zimmerman handling a gun and brandishing that gun and (it put) Mr. Apperson in fear for his life," NeJame said.

I consider him to be the victim of bogus complaints and prosecution.

Being that no one has officially complained about Zimmerman how is he a victim of something that never happened?

There have been complaints to the cops, and I'm sure you have read about them, but nothing formal. The prosecution of Zimmerman was bogus because there was substantial evidence, eye-witness and forensic and circumstantial, that he acted in self defense.

Yet a woman who stood her ground and fire a gun in their air got twenty years

why did he get off, and she didnt

My gosh, that's exactly what I said. There have been no official complaints, no one has pressed charges against him. So I ask again, how can he be the victim of bogus complaints if there haven't been any complaints?

Even our NRA backed governor thought there was enough evidence to have Zim stand trial a few years ago.

The complaints were made and they were, apparently, bogus, since the complainers did nothing to follow up, except for dropping the charges. The fact the complaints were not pursued does not mean they were not made, nor that they were expunged from the man's record.

Which governor is that?

You have proof that the complaints were all bogus? Every media outlet in the country would pay well for that. I'm sure you'll show us your proof here.

I'm not so sure people have a record if there are no charges filed.

Rick Scott.

"On behalf of our five million members across the country, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse Rick Scott for reelection as Governor of Florida.

Based on his leadership on Second Amendment issues, Governor Scott has earned an “A+” rating from the NRA-PVF in the 2014 general election. An “A+” is the highest possible rating and is reserved for elected officials with an excellent public record on critical NRA issues who have also made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment."

I certainly can't prove a negative, and have better things to do than beat a dead horse anyhow. To me, the fact the charges were dropped makes me satisfied they were bogus. Obviously, they are on Z's record, or we wouldn't know about them.

ETA: Do you actually have anything on Rick Scott calling for trying Z? I have googled, but been unable to find anything.
