Plans call for the most expensive presidential library ever. $500 million.

Fundraisers explain that the facility will be more than a library. It will also be a "think tank."

:D

I know. I can't stop laughing either! Life is rich.

Damn it, Shereads! Now my brain hurts.

And which state will be graced with this...think tank? And most important of all, will it contain the "Goat" book of 9/11 fame?

Texas. No other state is big enough.

Guests on NPR's "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" offered other possible explanations for the $500 million.

"Maybe all of the books are pop-ups."

"No, they're all on audio."

"Maybe it's the first think-tank with a real tank."

The library cum think tank is undoubtedly being built by military contractors, the past masters of overruns.

Undoubtedly the soon to be former President will receive a very nice consulting fee.

Sigh. Makes me long for the days of Harry Truman.

Interviewer: What is the first thing you did when you got home after being President?

Harry: I put the bags in the attic.

The only thing that could be housed in the GW Bush library is a collection of his Faux Pas.

It's probably powered by nucular energy, too
One would think so, given that it costs $500 mil...but the reason it costs that much is because it was built by Halliburton.

A sensory deprivation tank. Cuz Shrub was certainly deprived of any sense.

The price doesn't mean much without something to compare it against and/or a description of what is being built.

Is that $500M twice what the next highest is, or is the difference less than the rate of inflation since the next highest was built?

Not unprecedented in connection with a PL, but given GWB's foot-in-mouth ooratoricalstyle, it is snicker-inducing. :p

I believe it comes out to one hundred million per book.

According to Wikpedia, the Clinton library cost $165 Million (which I recall was excoriated by the right-wing talk show hosts as being wasteful). To almost triple that amount is a staggering thought. It makes you wonder if he's overcompensating for something (gee, I wonder if he drives a sports car and smokes large cigars as well  ).

This is exactly what's wrong with Republicans like him. He can't think of a better use for $500 Million? If he'd really like to improve his legacy, maybe he should consider canceling the plans and donating the money to some charity for the homeless or those without health care. It would go a long way toward rehabilitating an image that is getting worse by the day.

Those pardons are already paid for.

George W. Bush's last few hours as President will be giving himself writer's cramp signing Presidential pardons.

He's got a rubber stamp that was left by past presidents. :)

I wonder if "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle will be on the shelves. It is apparently George's favourite book from his childhood...published in 1969, when George turned 23!

Another great source of tendonitis! Stamping 5,000 bags hurts. Can anyone imagine this would call for?

Ohhhhhh...

...o.k., got it.

*rolls eyes*

You think he's not? What have you been smoking?????

But he's a good Christian conservative. Therefore he's allowed.

It's only when liberals indulge in shortsighted foreign adventures and irresponsible fiscal policies that such actions are bad.

See: Conservative good, liberal bad. Very logical.

It's so expensive because Cheney's got a shooting range inside. The extra money's to pay for targets. (and it'll employ the homeless and illegal aliens)
