George "The Fifth Beatle" Martin is dead

To awaken to such sad news, makes this rainy day seem more gloomy.
Growing up he produced the music of my youth not only, The Beatles.
But history will always see him as the fifth Beatle.
Not a bad epitaph for anyone.
R.I.P. Sir George Martin

I suppose if we're pedantic Stu Sutcliffe was the fifth Beatle.
But I'll stick with Sir George.

Yes, I suppose we have to thank Yoko Ono for her contributions on Revolution 9

Most think of Brian Epstein... But the more accurate answer is that several people have taken or been given the nickname.

A fair point with Brian Epstein.
He polished them from rough diamonds.
But without a producer like Sir George Martin. Would The Beatles as we know them have been so big and influential.

Brian Epstein just wanted to polish Lennon's knob.

There was no fifth Beatle, or their were 5 fifth beatles.

There is by contrast, no argument on the Sixth Stone.

George Martin was a pioneer in music production and rock 'n roll arrangement. He, with the Beatles, a some wonderful engineers, pushed the boundaries of popular music. Some 50 years later myself and my colleagues are still chasing much of what they did.

The mark Mr Martin left is massive and forever present in recording studios around the globe.

Actually, Stu and Pete Best are just former Beatles. Brian Epstien was the manager, responsible for business, not art. George Martin was instrumental in their success and sound, he is the TRUE fifth Beatle.

The Fifth Beatle is the one who replaced Paul McCartney in 1967.

Whether or not Sir George Martin was the fifth Beatle is irrelevant to his contribution to recorded music, and to improving the technology of recording techniques. He made it possible for artists to show how good they could be.

Being the producer of 30 British No. 1 records is an unequalled achievement.

Closest anyone came to being a *real* Fifth Beatle was Billy Preston's credit on Get Back.

But Geo Martin made the Beatles sound like they did.

Fucking production genius.
